I'm curious to know where people stand on this Chiefs vs Dolphins playoff game on Peacock this Saturday night. While I do think it's unavoidable to see more playoff games on various streaming services going forward I'm a little pissed off about this. At best I'll subscribe then immediately cancel, but I'm actually considering skipping the whole thing.

Where do you stand on this and why?

I've had peacock for awhile now, so I answered yes. But if I didn't already have it, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't subscribe just to watch. If it was the Pats playing, it's a no brainer. Or maybe even a juicy divisional round matchup. But not a random wild card game that I really don't care much about.

I blame NBC more than the NFL. NBC doesn't have to do this, they could make a gazillion dollars just leaving it on NBC. The game will likely be, across all of NBC's platforms and broadcasts, a top 2-3 highest rated production for the year. They decided that wasn't good enough, and are taking it a step further to collect another $3 from millions of viewers who won't be able to help themselves to drive subscriptions to their shitty stream service. And then of course a large chunk will forget to cancel so they collect even more. It's going to work and then next year ESPN is going to put a high profile game behind the ESPN+ paywall. And so on.

I'm going to hate myself at 8:00 on Saturday when I grit my teeth and yell into my Xfinity remote "Peacock!" and click the fucking subscribe button. Guess I can watch hundreds of hours of Jack McCoy before I cancel.
Cross posting from the WC game thread.

I'll begrudgingly probably do it.

I got lucky with this, my wife and kids wanted to watch some of the Thanksgiving & Christmas specials so we subscribed during their Black Friday sale ($20 for a year). Hoping this is an annual offer and we can just re-up it every Thanksgiving as the girls have been watching it a lot.

And peacock doesn't even offer a free trial. Best thing to do, if you do subscribe, is to cancel immediately. Most streamers allow you to keep watching until the subscription runs out. If not, just remove your payment info after subscribing and then they can't charge anything when the time comes around.

Expect I'll hit the bar. The way I look at it, the first beer will be free (price of a month subscription)

I'm fine with access to 5 out of the 6 games.

I'm not interested in adding any streaming services, particularly one of the weaker ones that isn't gong to make the cut when this oversaturated space consolidates.

If my favorite team was playing I'd be watching at a sports bar and still not subscribing. Since that isn't the case, if I'm home and in need of sports to view I'll quad-box some Hockey Night in Canada on ESPN+.

No clue! Heading to Jackman, ME to ice fish for the weekend. There's no way our cabin rental's wifi can handle a streamer even if we could cast to the Michael Scott flatscreen, which is certainly not a given. If a bar in walking distance has it, we'll probably hang out for a bit.

I'm cancelling Peacock soon, right now it's just a The Office and Parks and Rec machine. However we still have it and I noticed the other day that they have an Oculus Quest app. I may try to watch a bit of it on the Oculus movie screen thing to see how cool it is, but that's about it.

Glad I grabbed that Black Friday deal. I don't watch much Peacock but at <$2 a month it was a nobrainer. Otherwise I don't know what I would do Saturday - probably find something better to do than watch football.

Looks like I'm in the majority with "No, because I don't want to pay extra money to see this game."

Glad it's the Saturday night game so I can go see American Fiction with my wife at that time.

I think we still have Peacock from when we needed it for the Michigan game early in the season. So if we do I'll put it on for the game. If we don't because we canceled and were on a trial. Then not a chance.

It's included with my Xfinity/Comcast Internet, so I answered yes. If it wasn't included, nope.
Same here. It's Saturday night, so I might not watch regardless. One issue with Peacock -- or any non-broadcast source -- is that you can't jump around very easily. "Changing the channel" from Peacock closes the app and it takes a bit of time to re-open. Especially in the first half of a game I dont really care about, I'd normally be channel-hopping.

I might have it through my xfinity account, I'll have to check. If not, I don't really have a problem paying the $7 for a month or whatever to watch it and immediately cancel. I don't love that things are going that way, but at the end of the day it's basically renting a movie. So if I'm not somewhere Saturday where it's already showing, I'll probably pay to watch it. Wouldn't for a less interesting game.

I've had Peacock for a while, mainly for English soccer, but also for the occasional movie that streams free there while it's still 20 bucks on Amazon or Apple TV. Whether I'll watch this particular game, I don't know.

I have Peacock with my cable script but i hate having to use the app, even with it integrated with my cable system it still requires you to be in the app to view and i hate that. I usually get sick of the switching from app to tv so i end up just ignoring the game. If the NFL wants to get a person like myself to not watch their product then moving their content onto apps would be a great way to lose me as a fan. I can see the writing on the wall with them pay walling all of their product here in the near future.

Not sure how long you have been with Xfinity, but if you've been with them over 7 years you are eligible for a "Platinum" level rewards membership. It's no charge, you just need to sign up and Peacock is one of the "perks".

I found this out via email from them, but you can check here:

I won't be signing up. There's enough football on this weekend I can watch through YTTV and my wife will be pleasantly surprised that there's no football on the TV Saturday night.

This is where I'm at--having both YTTV and Peacock means I get pretty much every Spurs match, which is great for Sunday mornings when my kids are at Hebrew school and I want breakfast cocktails and footie, but I don't think Peacock is worth it for the occasional Wild Card game if you're not already an EPL fan.

Sports bars (and sports bar patrons) are going to be dealing with a headache.

It sucks. My buddy and I planned to make it an all-day/all-night wildcard day, but I'm doubting that most (if any) bars are going to be prepared for the peacock fuckery.

I'll be calling around, but I personally won't be adding peacock.

I'm going home
I grudgingly got it for the Bills Chargers because my son was home for the holidays and I wanted to watch with him. While I hate that they pulled this shit, I'm really liking the product more than some other services I pay for, which is a dilemma.

Since I've already paid, I'll watch Saturday, but I don't know if I'll keep it past the first month due to the strong-arming.

I thought it were had Fios you got Peacock for free. Is that not correct? If they're saying I have to pay $6 to watch this game I'm going to be pretty annoyed.

My brother has Peacock and I will be at his place on Saturday, so I will be watching.

However, if I wasn't planning to head over I would not watch the game.

I get Peacock as a freebie with my Xfinity plan. It was set to go away in June, but I think NBCU realized how terrible it would look to see subscriber numbers completely tank out of nowhere.

That said, if I was home Saturday night, I would be tuning in, but purely based on having it. I would not have paid extra for it, and just watched highlights later. However, I'll be out doing my side hustle Saturday night, so won't get to see much, if any, of the game.

Oh. I've definitely been a customer for that long. When I went to watch the earlier exlusive game I was getting a subscribe button and given the game was Bills/Chargers I didn't bother to click and advance.

Try the rewards thing online. I'm sure they don't have that option when you are trying on your TV so they can get your money.
