99% positive that Correa will return to the Astros. I think the Twins will get Story.
I’m skeptical on the Story part. The Twins have cheap and productive hitters in Luis Arraez, Jorge Polanco and Nick Gordon at 2B/SS, with top prospect Royce Lewis and very good prospect Jose Miranda just about ready. They could unload a bunch of that for the Oakland pitchers and sign Story, but it doesn’t seem like them to GFIN in ‘22-23.

It’s the Angels I’m worried about. They’re who are most often revealed to be the “mystery team” in my memory.

IMO, Bogaerts isn't moving off SS this season unless he's content to stay here and will accept what he considers a reasonable extension to accommodate whoever they may bring in. This is his $$$ year and the top FA SS options next season are X, Turner and Swanson. I see no reason for him not to explore free agency after the coming season and I can't see the Sox extending him at what he thinks the top of the FA SS class should expect to earn.
My sentiments exactly.

I think Bloom (and Henry) might make Xander a "face of the franchise" exception, give him a market-value extension, and let him play SS until Mayer is ready. And obviously they will also try to extend Raffy.

But I don't think either of those precludes the possibility of bringing in Story to play 2B, if they can convince him to play 2B (which would be better in light of his elbow problems last year) and preferably on a short-term deal or one with an opt-out, so that he's just keeping the spot warm for 2-3 years until Yorke is ready.

It's down to Story now, or someone coming via a trade.

At the beginning of the offseason I thought the Sox should be looking to land a potential replacement for X who could also play 2B and I thought they'd snag the SS left without a chair at the end; I thought that would be Baez (as a free swinging low OBP player). Story actually seemed like the best option, but I didn't think there was any way he'd make it this far into FA... it is hard to see the Sox outbidding Houston, who needs a SS and has a better team that is ready to win now.

I think we all feel that way to a degree, as Sox fans we may have to acknowledge that the FO doesn't see our position on the competition curve the same may we do coming off a trip to the ALCS. Votto would be great, but with his full NTC and ties to Cincy, does he really want to leave that situation for what looks like it could be a pretty mediocre team?

Why does Houston need a SS? Their top prospect Jeremy Peña just posted great numbers across AA and AAA.
Why does Boston?

Because you can move players across the diamond or trade them. Pena also only played 37 games in 2021 and was rather pedestrian in the DWL. Also not sure how he posted great numbers across AA and AAA considering he's never played in AA. He did the Jeter Downs and went from A+ to AAA. Unlike Downs, he flourished in his limited time. Though Downs did get 12 games in AA, Pena skipped it all together.

Pena is all over the place too, though maybe BA hasn't updated their lists or BRef hasnt. BP has him 16th, BA has him 72nd?

edit: UMaine Orono, huh? He's got a new fan. 6bb/35k in 130 PA in AAA isn't great shakes either. He was at 47k/90BB in A/A+ in 2019 over 473 PA. Hard to take too much away from 6bb/35k in his first 130 PA at the AAA level after skipping over AA though. Not much time for adjustments, especially when he was raking to a tune of .287/.346/.598.
