Watching this mostly to see the rules departure from the NFL.

Because Landry Jones is the face of the league. It's mediocre minor league football played in the off-season. You aren't going to change fully ingrained watching habits with a no-name league
Mediocre is the right word.

Alliance of American Football level of play was essentially high level college ball without all that goes along with college ball - bands, massive stadiums, tradition, and rivalries.

The product itself was perfectly fine. Not great but fine - sort of like Chili's. And it didn't work.

Why would this work? The problems are structural. Sports right now are about stars. People want stars.

I'll never wrap my head around how much people love hating on the XFL. If sub-NFL football isn't your thing or you don't think it's going to work, that's fine, but why the vitriol? Let them fail in peace. In the meantime, a lot of players, coaches, etc. are going to make real money. The only loser is Vince. This isn't something people should enjoy pissing on.

Strictly speaking, the AAF failed because they ran out of money. The XFL won't, at least not in Week 8 or whatever it was the AAF got through. They have the funding to spend three seasons building the the things you're alluding to -- stars, rivalries, reasons to care -- and then sell the broadcast rights, at which point they can start recouping their losses. Not saying it will work, but they have a runway the AAF didn't.

Go Defenders.

I'm surprised guys like Terrell Owens, Chad OchoCinco, or Dez Bryant aren't apart of this. The entire league would really revolve around them. I'm excited to watch.

I'm working this afternoon. I like to have sports on in the background while I'm working. It's football. I like the uniforms. It's not appointment TV but for screw-it viewing it's fine. Plus if it gives marginal guys a way to get into the NFL that's good.

NFL is so overwrought now, I'm kind of digging the lo-fi vibe of this. Feels like a good DII game, which I mean as a compliment.

Do you know anything about Vince McMahon??? Rooting for his vanity project to fail is much better sport that whatever is taking place on the field.

Thank god for rich dude's vanity projects, or there wouldn't be an NFL or an AEW or whatever is cool to like these days.

I enjoy the live mics. It is a bit of info overload but I do like hearing the coach about stuff

Seeing the spread and the over under on the scoreboard is most certainly going to happen in the NFL next few years.

I like the live mics too; the announcers do need to get out of the way and let it breath a bit.

The sideline interviews are awkward as hell.

They should start showing prop bets in near-real-time on the scoreboard, with keypads at every seat.

3RD & 6: WILL THE BATTLEHAWKS CONVERT? +325.... PRESS "A" FOR YES, "B" FOR NO....
MINIMUM $10 BET..... GOOD LUCK!.... 3RD & 6: WILL THE BATTLEHAWKS CONVERT? +325....

This was a very well executed and displayed post.

This has been pretty enjoyable so far.
The crowd being more excited than they should be had helped the viewing experience so far.

The fact that the league really embraced the fantasy aspect and were transparent and openly broadcasted depth charts already made it better than the AFL (or whatever it was called)

I enjoy the player live interviews. All they need is one player who is hot on the mic (like a CM Punk or John Cena) and it'll instantly improve ratings.
