I bet Green Bay wishes they had tried running at least once from the 5.

First and goal from the 9 and they handed off to Randall Cobb. Nothing like putting your players in a position to succeed.

I don't get it.  I just don't fucking get it.  How many fucking times does this need to happen before coaches realize that losing like this is not necessary.  Give your guy a chance to win the game.  The play is to let them score from the 20-30 yard line.  Of course, once they get down to inside a minute, and inside the 20, they won't go all the way for the td, so you have to do it sooner.  If it's fucking clear as day that you can't stop their offense from getting the last 10 yards or so to make it a chip shot, LET THEM SCORE.  I seriously want to write letters to McCarthy and Chip Kelly and tell them what fucking idiots they are.  I saw this coming from the minute Green Bay kicked the field goal to tie it.  They get paid millions, and yet, they can't see it.  It drives me fucking insane.

You did call it when SF had the ball on their own 35.

Letting teams score is the final frontier. Nobody really does it, and it only happens when the ball is inside the 5 or so.

At some point, the "that's why he's not a WR " stuff has to stop. Make a play. Or go home.

While all of that is true, it drives me insane when teams can't stop obvious runing plays. Pack should have stopped the Gore Machine from the 40.

Nailed my picks today, going 4 for 4. Nailed the Cinci/SD game total points at 37, and was close to nailing the total points in this one (had 47, needed a TD instead of a FG at the end...oh well).

I hate SF, but I also think they pose the biggest threat to the Seahwaks in the NFC. If the Pats make it out of the AFC, I'd rather see the 49ers over the Seahawks.

deep in the hole
So can someone explain why that wasn't illegal batting of the ball when the 49er hit it out of the back of the endzone deliberately on the kick off? Was it already out of bounds?

Final frontier or not, it's too late when they get inside the 5 yard line, except when there is more than a couple of minutes left.  By the time they get down there, there is no time left and they know what you are trying to do.  You have to surprise them and let them score when they don't think you are trying to do it, otherwise, they'll just not do it.  And, if you time it right and do it with 2-3 minutes left and you have some timeouts, even if they don't take the td and sit down inside the 10, you still get the ball back, AND they may end up screwing themselves and settle for a fg AND give you the ball back with time left to come down and get a TD.

It makes all the sense in the world and yet, nobody ever questions it or talks about it and I don't get it.

Clearly it's driving you nuts.....

I agree sometimes you should do as you're suggesting, but I dont find much fault with GB in this one. You have to go all out for the stop until they get inside the 35, and they almost had them stopped before the FG if it wasn't for that dumb blitz and lack of contain.

It's totally unrealistic to ask them to sell out on 3rd and 8, but then to immediately know to let him score the split second he gets past the 1st down marker. They almost had Kap stopped.

After that, it was still a very tough 45+ yard FG these conditions. Not sure you have a better chance at scoring a TD (just to tie) in under a minute than getting a missed FG. I still try to stop them and force a long FG.

By the time I would have maybe let them score, it was less than 45 seconds left, and probably irrelevant either way.

Your crusade isn't getting support. Try world peace or something.

I agreed last night. Less so in this game because of how difficult kicking was all day. Anything over 35-40 yards was a crapshoot.

I think this is fair criticism under normal circumstances, but with the weather conditions (both making the kick more difficult and making deep passing an adventure all game) I think the percentage move was trying to stop SF and force Dawson to hit a FG. GB's inability to stop the run when they knew it was coming was pretty bad.

In general I agree, there are more times where teams should let the other team score, just not really a chance to do it there that made sense. Kaep is heading for the sidelines on that third down run, and you still should be playing defense there. They should possibly have let Gore score on the last couple runs, but he should be aware enough to stop at the one. They were fucked once they didn't stop the third down.
