He didn't launch himself into Moore, he didn't leave his feet . But he was running full speed at a moving object. I'm not sure what Dupree was supposed to do differently. is he supposed to slow down before he hits Moore to double make sure that he misses his chin? That's not a reasonable expectation.

Look if he left his feet and launched himself like a missile then I'd agree that it was dirty. But when two large people are running full speed like that then sometimes helmets are going to hit Chins or other helmets. I don't know what you could reasonably expect the defender to do different, Unless you want the defender to slow down or go for the knees. I wouldn't define either of those as reasonable.
In this days NFL, yes, it should be on the defensive player to avoid a hit like that. Moore did not duck into the hit. Buddy had his entire body to hit. He has to hit him somewhere else.

Pittsburgh gets a free play on an offside but it was only allowed because Suh was held, which prevented him from getting a free run at the QB. They should have stopped that fucking play.

Seriously, I played football and rugby. You can aim where you're going 99.8% of the time o a tackle.

He was aiming for Moore's chin.

Here
This won't be popular in a Pats forum, but the solution is to let defenders go low on QBs, at least outside the pocket. If you care about players' long-term welfare, you should be willing to trade some ACL injuries for some concussions.
There is plenty of room between the knees and head, especially when you are taking down Matt freaking Moore.

There no reason to think otherwise. Moore's head dipped when he threw the ball, and Dupree hit him in the chin.
Why do guys ever need to lead with their helmets on a tackle, other than they are trying to injure someone?

So sick of seeing it and seeing it go uncalled.

Hit with the shoulder, wrap up, tackle.

Believe it or not, I disagree. If you want to take those hits out of the game, you must (at a minimum) penalize the team and fine the player when it happens, even if it's unintentional.

The guys that play in the NFL are amazing athletes. But people's expectations for their ability to contort their bodies while running at full speed to hit another person running and moving at full speed are just not reasonable. Would it have been better if Dupree hit him in the chest with a shoulder? Yes it would. Do I think it's humanly possible to expect that to happen at full speed 100% of the time? Absolutely not. These guys arnt contortionists moving in slow motion.
Hits like that are unfortunate but will always be part of the game if it is played at full speed.

"The Dolphins are a serviceable QB away from being a very good team."

"Not sure that was an illegal hit, and there was no dirty intent."

There will be a lot of debate about the penalty assessed after Steelers LB Bud Dupree hit Dolphins QB Matt Moore with a brutal sideline blow. But the bottom line is that Dupree lowered his head and delivered a blow to the head/neck area. We should all know by now that NFL referees are instructed to err on the side of caution in these situations, using penalties as a deterrent to players coming anywhere close to hitting the head. That's the (NFL) world we live in.

I don't know what was crazier, the fact the Miami guy didn't pick it, the ball ended up being caught by James, or that 4 Miami players couldn't swat the ball out of James' outstretched hands before he went to the ground. Miami can do nothing right, and even when they do, the refs eliminate that too.

This might be crazy but I'm terrified the Pats are just going to get super hosed during a playoff game this year; anything to avoid RG handing the trophy to Brady.

The debate should only be about how much he is fined and whether he is suspended.

Oh, and how the hell Moore was allowed to stay in the game.

It's actually pretty easy to not lead with the crown of your helmet.

It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you.

This is some tasty home cooking.
It's hard to believe it really matters much to the NFL whether the home or the away team wins, though I do think refs have some unconscious biases.

It is interesting, though, that the officiating has seemed so home slanted this year so far after all four home teams lost in this round last year.

I'm glad we have the former Steelers coach to give the honest evaluation.
