Adam Schefter tweeted this amazing (at least to me) stat:

Road QBs this weekend: 37 combined career playoff starts.

Home QBs this weekend: 0 combined career playoff starts.
“If you see Big Ben and he flashes Little Ben, you are asked to report it to authorities immediately … Again, he poses the greatest threat to 18-to-40-year-olds, especially those with boob jobs.”
I love Ben as a player, I do. But I'm sorry, this is funny. It just is. And nobody can reasonably complain about it.
It's really not funny. And not just because of the r word. It's hacky, obvious, bro humor bullshit.

And why do you think that people can't complain about it? Stuff like this makes it more difficult for victims of sexual abuse to come out and get the treatment they may need. Not trying to be a social justice warrior, but I can't see arguing that this is in good taste or is universally funny.

As you feel quite strongly about this, I won't engage. This isn't V and N. Point made, and sorry if my post struck a nerve.

NFL won't say whether PSI will be tested in Minnesota on Sunday
Translation: Of course it will be tested, but we reserve our right to "adjust" or withhold the result if it doesn't support our brand of science.

Viral stardom is the reward for the independent go-getter with a ticket, football, gauge and Twitter account.

Not adjust. But withhold, definitely.

I just found it odd to declare something as definitively being funny. While i'm not offended by the original joke, other than it being kinda lame, I do understand how someone would be. No need to apologize, I wasn't trying to sound that harsh. Back to football.

NFL Playoff Fever!! ...Cheapest tix on Stubhub .... Vikings game - $50, Bengals game $70, Texans game $123, Redskins game $129.

That's crazy - and the craziest of all is the Bengals tickets. Steelers nation is enormous, by some measures they're the largest NFL fanbase, with a playoff game a mere 4-hour drive away and priced at/below face, you'd think they would be snapping up tickets like hotcakes.

More amazing is the Washington tickets are going for 500 each for the second row, 50 yard line. Those are the same prices as 100 section NY Rangers tickets to regular seasons games.

Kirk Cousins does NOT LIKE THAT.

...actually, I have no idea how anomalous those prices are. Glancing at SeatGeek, the Houston game has Row E at the 50yd line for $465, row G at $712. Minnesota has row 2 at $264, roughly the same price I paid for a single to NE@NYG in 2007 week 17. The Cincy game has row 3 at $262 (!), I guess AJ McCarron really doesn't have the brand value of Dalton.

Maybe the real money is going to luxury boxes this weekend.

Just read an interesting tidbit: the Vikings sideline will be roughly 20 degrees warmer than the Seahawks due to being on the south side of the field. Maybe even more.

edit: north side, not south side
Meh. 0° is still 0° ...the low early January sun is not going to make much of a difference...Still ridiculously cold on any side of the field

The cradle of the game.
That's quite the about-face from earlier this evening when Carroll said he'd be a game time decision.

Turned out to be a plane time decision.

Something happened at practice that made him feel like he couldn't play, apparently.

Not sure what this really changes for the Seahawks, though. I can't imagine they were really expecting him to show up and run the ball 20 times.

The Globe or 98.5 should video an air pressure test in the Minny parking lot pre-game and at halftime. Come on, people. Someone need to kickstarter this!

Bud Grant started coaching the Vikings long before there was a dome in Minnesota.
I recall Ahmad Rashad talking about what it was like as a Vikings player to be playing in super-frigid conditions in MN. He mentioned complaining to one of the vets about the cold and being completely ignored. He learned the message was to focus only on beating the opponent.

Another interesting stat I heard...since 2010, the team with the worse record in the WC round is 5-3. Obviously doesn't mean anything for this weekend, but I personally like all but one of the worse-record teams (KC is the exception).

I don't know about anyone else ... but I enjoy the wild weather games. Excessive rain or snow, the Philly-Chicago Fog Bowl, bitter cold -- they're a treat to watch.

That tends to happen when a player gets named to the All-Pro team at 2 different positions. Why that is allowed is another issue, but man is Mack good.
Fun in retrospect:

Texans GM was said to prefer Mack

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000342507/article/texans-gm-reportedly-likes-khalil-mack-over-clowney

But ... Gil Brandt says don't do it Houston!

So as Patriots fans, what do we want? Houston and Pittsburgh? Only problem with a Houston to win is that if they do, and the Steelers lose, the chances of Denver not hosting the AFCCG seems really low.

Edited, among other things, to make clear I don't think who I root for affects the outcome. Probably.

I'm going Cinci and KC. Pitt might be really limited without Williams and Cinci will not likely have Dalton back next week. I think KC can and will take out Denver.

The choices in order of preference, as I see it:

Root for Houston and Pittsburgh
Root for KC and Cincinnati
Root for KC and Pittsburgh
Root for Houston and Cincinnati

Yeah I said it in the game thread but I will be ok with the first three outcomes. Houston and Cincy winning, however, would suck

If Pats play anyone but Kansas City I have a ticket for first row 40 yard line in club seats so go whatever it takes for KC to not be in Foxboro next weekend.

Since I agree that Hou/Pit is the best overall outcome, I am going with Houston.

The hard part of this equation is that I am actually going to have root for the Steelers tonight.

I already feel dirty.

Road QBs this weekend: 37 combined career playoff starts.

Home QBs this weekend: 0 combined career playoff starts.
Road teams are usually the better teams wild card weekend. Which is the opposite of the next two rounds.

Road teams this weekend are wildcard teams: the two best second place teams across all divisions. They usually come from a strong division (whose first place team is sitting out this weekend). Home teams this weekend are the best teams from the worst two divisions, which doesn't always mean a great team.

Often but not always the WC teams are better than the home teams this weekend

I can't be strategic about rooting interests on wild card weekend, since I like/dislike these teams too much to worry about the potential Patriots matchup. I'll be rooting for KC and Cincinnati.

KC is the best team to send to Manning and Denver IMHO but I would rather not see them in Foxboro at all even in an AFC Champ game.

Therefore rooting for a Steeler Texan duo . Send Big Ben to mile high welcome Hoyer and comp to NE.

Also wouldn't be opposed to Cin KC combo but that means I'd be in a position of needing a Marvin Lewis playoff game one week and hoping for a Reid one the next week. Unlikely.

Do any of the Presidential candidates have elimnating the anthem before routine sporting events as part of their platforms?
