Brees partnered Tirico on NBC's Notre Dame broadcasts this season, in case you weren't aware. (I think he's fine - pretty unremarkable, but with room to grow into the role.)
I don't get surprised any more at how awful the announcing is. A national game, a playoff game, and this is who NBC chooses for the analyst? There's no one else who would take the job and who's, ya know, been in the booth for NFL games before?

It's rough when the play be play guy has to assume the role as the color guy as well.

The referee had a grin on his face like, “I have no idea, but let’s go review it”

We’re all going to pretend the whistle didn’t blow?

I mean, #25 on the Raiders gave up on the play. He probably had no play on the ball, but he certainly could’ve put a hit on the receiver.

Probably the best thing eye in the sky could do, but damn, I’d be salty if I were a Raiders fan.

Who else does NBC have that worked color in an NFL booth this season? That's the issue. (At least Brees has color experience this year *and* was part of NBC's NFL studio show, which by recent standards of the first Saturday Wild Card game makes him very qualified in relative terms.)

Tirico is above average and Brees is …fine
