I like they are they are digging deep for the right hire, instead of going with a big-name retread.

The Athletic has an article on him:

Who is Luis Urueta? A look at the latest Red Sox managerial candidate
https://theathletic.com/1575764/2020/01/31/who-is-luis-urueta-a-look-at-the-latest-red-sox-managerial-candidate/?source=shared-article

He interviewed via phone today.

this is the part that stood out to me:

His wealth of experience at a relatively young age makes him an intriguing candidate. If the Red Sox are looking for someone with a similar profile to former manager Alex Cora, it seems that Urueta fits that mold.
A profile on LaVidaBaseball.com notes: “Urueta’s style is clearly new school, steeped in analytics and clear communication. He’s articulate in English, Spanish and baseball.”

Who does everyone want? I’m confused about who to root for. I wanted Alex here for a long time and will miss him. Time for a new guy to get excited for.

I’m starting to feel that Morris Buttermaker is going to be brought in to oversee the first week or so of spring training.

On the serious side, I hope they give the job to a promising outsider like Muelens or Urueta since we're effectively hitting the reset button and building towards the future. Let them be an integral part of building the next playoff contender in Boston.

I've lost track. Have they interviewed Muelens?

I am not sure how to look it up - has there ever been a team with no manager less than a week away from the start of ST?
This seems kinda crazy to me.

When John Henry first took over going into 2002, they fired Kerrigan in early March and hired
Grady Little

Agree. They're being held hostage by MLB. Can't make it official until any suspensions for their alleged crimes against humanity are announced.

Not ST, but Gil Hodges died a few days (4/2) befiore the 72 season was supposed to start. The season didn't start til mid-april because of that year's strike.

If they're only waiting for suspensions to be announced but their choice is Roenicke anyway, why wait? If they're going with Roenicke, that suggests they know he's clean as far as the investigations go, so what do they need to wait for? Wouldn't it be a vote of confidence to hire him officially before the MLB investigation clears him?

I think they're not sold on anyone yet and they're still going through the process, but in the meantime are fine letting the current staff, sans a manager, open camp. How vital is a manager during the first week of camp anyway? Do pitchers and catchers not know what they're supposed to be doing? Can't pitching coaches devise a throwing schedule on their own?

Lol remember when Bobby V was going to fix Daisuke because he could speak Japanese?
didn't he also say he was going to get them back to basics in spring training. Wasn't there some sorta drama about bunting drills?

IIRC it was popup drills, and he totally undressed Mike Aviles (who was a popular teammate) for doing it "wrong" on the 1st day of ST, or somesuch.

That's prob what i was remembering. Still can't believe they let him manage the team.
