Just curious to see what the early speculation is.

The idea of beating Rex with Edelman at QB is almost too delicious to imagine, but he's too small to get clobbered all game. I am worried about wearing out Blount with a heavy early-season workload, but that seems unavoidable for one more week.

I also don't think they should rush Jimmy G back if that risks worsening his injury. Brady is not a spring chicken - they may need him later in the year.

I think they do their best to get Yates or someone similar boned up on a basic game plan and cross their fingers.

I really hate the idea of rushing Jimmy G back for one game if he's not ready. I guess it's Yates. Can Belichick gameplan for that? Hard to write that possibility off.

Id bet it wont be Edelman. Otherwise depends on injury information that we dont really have, conflicting reports on whether Brissett is even that injured. Brady is starting week five so, whatever, dont get Edelman killed and roll out whoever cant injure themselves more.

There is absolutely no way it should be Edelman -- just not worth the risk to one of the team's most important players. And if JG's injury can be exacerbated it absolutely should not be him. I would be perfectly happy to see them sign someone off the street.

I do not think they will, in fact, rush Jimmy back. If he plays against the Rexies, it will be because he's able to play and be effective.

And there still remains the possibility that Petraglia got it wrong on Jacoby. When we first heard about Jimmy, he was going to be out 6-10 weeks...and then he had limited participation in Tuesday's practice.

I almost wish Garoppolo can't play because if they lose, eh, it's one game. But if they beat the defensive brain trust of Buffalo with an emergency quarterback then the Bills really only have one option on Monday:

Brissett

with some gadget plays from Edelman, Amendola and the tight ends.

Gonna win it with running and defense and special teams. It's not as if Brissett even broke 120 passing yards.

No sweat. We have twice as much time to prepare as we did for the Texans, and they're much better than Buffalo.

Going by the sprain opinion too.

Garappolo if he can go. Brissett if not.

While I loved the hell out of last night's game and Brissett did great for a rookie thrown into the fire, our offense is clearly more potent with Garappolo. Brissett's mobility adds a dimension but our passing game was very limited with him behind center.

I think Jimmy is just as mobile, but he has so much value as a passer it's foolish to risk getting big splashed by fatties like Wilfork, especially when we've seen what a skinny like Kiko can do. Jimmy's out of work because of Kiko!

And count me out of the "eh, it's 3-1" camp. A win is a win and one win usually makes the difference in seeding. Give me Jimmy if he's at all capable.

Agree completely on the bolded. Plus, forget being splashed by fatties, there's no way I want to lose to the King of all Fatties.

^^^^^^THIS.

Jimmy has two seasons to rest after next Sunday, shoot him up and git er dun one time!

This "may" be the best defense in the league and it "may" not be that close. The numbers won't ever reflect this due to how we'll be playing to the scoreboard in 2nd half of games like Miami however. Point is.....we have a legitimate chance at sweeping through February. October Games Matter in this regard.......All Games Matter in this regard!

Sure play Jimmy if he can go, I was speaking more to the "oh fuck what do we to now" sentiments. Brissett getting hurt isn't exactly a season killer given the downside is 3-1 with Brady returning

Rex and Rob are buffoons, but even these idiots are aware their credibility in the NFL is virtually shot and the only way to have any future is to win this game, I fully expect deliberate attempts to cheap shot take out whoever starts as QB. I will be astonished if we only need a single QB.

Whoever starts, (I hope JG is good to go) we can be sure there will be no leaks from the bunker.

Let Rex try to figure out who to prepare for.

and schadenfreude for Rex getting humbled/canned after a Foxboro asskicking grows

I wouldn't put it past Bill to sign Yates just to run practice but I think it's going to be hard to disguise who is going to start since you have to give out the injury reports. If Jimmy practices he's going to play.

Maybe, but sone of JG's issue is pain management. He's gonna need to practice to see if he can handle that.

You think that would be worth cutting someone from the roster?

With the Brady and Nink suspensions done after the game two people are getting cut anyway so that isn't much of a concern.
If neither of the actual QBs on the roster can practice they need to do something.

Why isn't Brissett an option? Voted for other since he's my best guess.

If he goes on IR he can't practice which may set back his development.
Exactly.

You phantom-IR guys who aren't strong enough, need to put on weight, etc. You don't put a rookie QB who most needs to work on timing, precision, etc on IR unless he can't actually practice - you're basically throwing away a year of development.

I can't recall anytime the Patriots put someone on "phantom IR". The closest example I could come up with are rookies on the bubble that got hurt in training camp. But that's not really a phantom IR. If Brissett goes on IR, we can safely assume he needs surgery.

I don't think there's any reason to make any roster moves unless it becomes obvious that neither Brissett nor Garappolo can play against Buffalo, and the latest reports seem to cast doubt on that being the case. Yes, they need to make 2 moves when Ninkovich and Brady come back. However, there's no need to make those moves now. Better to wait and see what happens after Buffalo. I'm not sure we even know if Ninkovich will be ready to play when his suspension ends.

I wasn't necessarily implying phantom IR; it'd be more to save a roster spot if he's going to miss a couple weeks.

If they are going to sign somebody it almost has to be tomorrow.

Brissett wouldn't be a phantom IR depending on the severity of his injury. If he's going to be out for a few weeks, he's probably the most obvious IR call on the roster. They still could bring him back later in the year via the designated to return option if they needed to/so chose, but there's not a lot of value on the 53 man roster for a 3rd string QB who can't play for a month.

They did it with one of the old scrub quarterbacks, I believe Kliff Kingsbury. He told an anecdote in a newspaper story about how towards the end of training camp a coach came up and told him that his arm hurt now or whatever it was and he needed to go on IR. I remember laughing when reading the article and thinking "pretty sure you werent supposed to say that in the paper"

This was pre spygate though, so no 1st round draft pick forfeited. Hope Goodell doesnt have obscure newspaper archives.

Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett is present in locker room during media access. He does not have any protective covering over his right thumb.
My guess is that we see JB again as long as he can handle the pain. By the end of the day, he goes back to being 3rd string anyway so it's much less of a big deal if he aggravates the injury such that we wouldn't be able to play for a few weeks.

My guess is that taking direct snaps may be the hardest part for him, short of being tackled awkwardly again. Could the Pats play the whole game from the shotgun? Is there any advantage for the running game to have your QB under center? I know the Pats (and many other teams) will often run out of the shotgun, but what is the downside? Do you give away some momentum for the RB?

So they will both be listed as questionable until the last minute. That should go over well with Rexie.
