Let's see ya complain about a sportswriter hating your team when it turns out the sportswriter is a computer!

Automated Insights, a company that provides language generation software to The Associated Press and other organizations, announced Wednesday the news cooperative will use the software to produce thousands of stories about collegiate sports.

Are you kidding?  The guy who wrote the auto-generated stories about my Yahoo fantasy football team was a condescending prick.  I won't be reading any of the Computer Haired Boyfriend's articles.

Not all that surprising, since quality-wise it's not much of a step down from the stringers and interns that papers and syndicates have been using to write these mostly-shitty "stories" for much of the past decade.

Fuck the Macbook and its obvious pro-Bay Area bias. Back in the day you'd NEVER see Dell or Compaq drooling and spewing over the Astros & Rockets. Oh, sure, Digital & Wang writers raved about the Bird-era Celtics, but they spoke the truth.

Hell, Wikipedia should hire some computers to write the sports articles on its site. If you ever want to be thoroughly confused while reading a biography of an athlete, head over to Wikipedia. I'd honestly love to see a blog devoted to the awful writing on sports Wikipedia pages.

Just stuff like this (which isn't even close to as bad as some of the stuff I've seen):

This also marked the time Hamilton started hanging around a tattoo parlor, which consequently led to his experimenting with drugs and alcohol. The 2001 season also marked the beginning of his drug and alcohol use, and he made his first attempt at rehabilitation

Part of me hopes that use a basic Markov chain text generator for this:

Greivis Vasquez tied it at 79-all entering the fourth. They led by nine twice more before the Jazz finished 13 of 21 and 23 points. Two years ago, Indiana eliminated New York opened the fourth and matched a season low with five free throw line and the Jazz in Utah, 99-90, on Jan. 26. TAKING CARE OF THE BALL Boston had a six-game home winning streak snapped. Rudy Gobert had 10 points and Harden scored 18 in his return after a review. "It was huge for us mentally because we hadn't been playing to our level of expectations," Mike Conley said. "We've lost some games in the second half," Oladipo said. "We've lost some games in the fourth quarter, and DeMar DeRozan had 25 points. Tim Hardaway Jr. had 13 points off turnovers. About the only one on the play that way? Sharing the basketball, teammate gets a basket, teammate gets a basket, teammate gets a basket, teammate gets a dunk. That's fun basketball." Jameer Nelson had 12 points for a 13-2 lead, then hit the Nets got within 12 early in the paint to make it 96-84 midway through the net as the Rockets had a six-game home winning streak snapped. Rudy Gobert had 10 points and 10 rebounds, J.R. Smith had a pair of turnovers and Harden scored 18 in his left foot. ... Zach Randolph and G Beno Udrih returned Wednesday after missing the game Monday with a sprained right ankle.

Won't work, computers have to use logic. Another Grady Little-like decision will completely screw up the internet sending us back to VCR's and pong.

I'm not sure what the big deal is. I just programmed an automated radio host in like 30 seconds.

If(FelgerOpensMouth) {
        Mazzbot.speak("That's right Mike!");
}
Else {
        Mazzbot.speak("They would rather have 4 ponies than a horse!");
}
