I've followed Chelsea since 2000-2001 season but I go to Most of Orlando City's games and I'm in a supporter group.

Hard to pick if I have to, but since OC could probably beat Chelsea right now....

Liverpool. Originally because I wanted to follow an EPL team and FSG provided a natural connection. It didn't take long to fall in love with the club despite the mediocrity of the majority of the last four years.

I'm spending next semester in Dublin we'll see if it gets me into any European teams. Doing so now just feels fake

I'm torn.  One of my great sporting memories was going to Anfield and standing in the Kop for a win but I spent many Saturday afternoon's on the hill next to Elm Park watching Reading.  I guess if forced to choose and when they've played I have I'll go with my Royals but I love the Reds as well.

I know I've not been around much recently but I'm disappointed you didn't remember one of the few here who actually hails from the city they support -Liverpool.

I get that you started the thread, and i don't mean to be antagonistic, but it's called who do you follow, not what's your favorite team. People can follow more than one side, there are different kinds of fans. Especially if you come to the sport later in life or there's nary a chance they'll play. Since I love the sport, honestly I don't care who people like or how they watch as long as more Americans are watching and following. I'm pleased to see a bunch of unfamiliar names in this thread.

Sorry. I have a policy that I'll only waste my time bantering with fans of teams who have at least one international title. Nice try, though, pó de arroz.

This is a beautiful post.

I follow many teams. I was in black and white stripes as a baby so my favorite team is locked. If I'm watching EPL or MLS, however, I definitely have rooting interests.

I remember a bunch, but I'm just filling in people who really aren't around anymore. Anyone else can come in and put it down. No rush.

I mentioned in the first thread I was looking for just one team. I'll change the title to prevent further confusion.

I'm well aware people can follow more than one side- I do as well, but I certainly don't rate them all the same. I also never suggested that it was a bad thing to root for multiple teams (although at times it can be a bit silly) or that I cared who people root for. I'm also glad to see a bunch of newer names in here. It was just supposed to be a fun exercise, not a commentary on people's rooting habits or an opportunity to flaunt one's purity of fandom and love of the game.

So, you going to pick one team or what?

It's interesting that the top three clubs thus far are all English clubs who are perennially above-average but nonetheless have a very distinct close-but-no-cigar profile in recent times.  Chelsea and the Manchesters collectively account for the last 11 titles, yet have garnered much less support in the crucial SOSH demographic.

It's all good, except for Newcastle, which is my team.

Dunno if this is Red Sox related or not, but coming into watching this stuff very recently I felt like I couldn't jump into one of those top teams. Just felt too much like someone coming into baseball and saying "Hrmm, I've heard good things about these Yankees".

I will admit I kind of like United more than I expected. Even before I know a thing about club football I knew that they were the English Yankees and I was prepared to hate them, but I find the clunky post-Ferguson Man U to have an awkward charm to them.

If I didn't make it clear in my first post, Spurs.

The rest was just chatter.
It was clear, I just forgot to mark you down.

And I love the chatter and hearing about other teams people love and why, those are some of the best posts in this thread. I just wanted to see people be decisive.

Celtic- although Peter Lawwell has made it increasingly difficult for me to stay interested due to their lack of signing quality strikers over the last couple of years. I have to think twice about getting up to watch them at 4.30 am these days.

Honorable mentions:  Hamilton Accies- it's all about their physio.  Everton ( my dad was on their books).

Man City. Not because of LTF but a friend at work who grew up in Blue Manchester got me hooked using the MFY/Sox dynamic explaing Utd/MCFC

Soft spot for relegated Burnley, since my brother in law grew up there and played in their youth program

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

And FL Fart.  I will be picking two teams.

Two.

Their home matches are played at Fartbana. Norway international footballers Thorstein Helstad and Kristin Bekkevold started their careers at Fart.
I feel like it's important for me to note that I'm 35 years old.

Ha, wish I knew about this a couple of years ago. I was at NUIG and never had any reason to go to a LOI match (watching on Irish language TV was just so thrilling). Are you gonna be at UCD?

For the purposes of this thread -- fucking Newcastle.

"The name means "the football team speed" in Norwegian"

I'm also fascinated by the facct that way more coverage is given to the women's team than the men's on the wiki page.

As a kid traveling around Norway we were amused by the road signs that said 'farts dempere' with two hills that kinda looked like butt cheeks... Speed bumps.

Norwegian word for fart? Promper

Edit: and Arsenal

That's all fine and dandy until I say I support Manchester United and then it's all piss and vinegar.

Everton.

It may be the Klinsmann effect, but I have not been that diligent following the USMNT recently.  I make the time to watch Everton though, even when the results have been pretty similar...
