October, to me, always means baseball at its best, where pitchers are usually dealing and any mistake is punished, no quarter taken. Even when the Sox aren't in it, I can't help but watch.

Here are your current standings in terms of playoff odds. In brief (numbers rounded):

Toronto Div: 68% WC: 30%
NY Yankees  31% WC: 60%
KC Royals:  100% WC: 0%
Minnesota Twins:  0% WC: 13%
Houston Astros:  87% WC: 9%
Anaheim Angels:  6% WC: 31%
Texas Rangers:  6% WC: 28%

NY Mets:  85% WC: 1%
St. Louis Cardinals:  78% WC: 21%
Pittsburgh Pirates:  20% WC: 80%
Chicago Cubs:  2% WC: 92%

For me, I'd love to see a Blue Jays-Mets World Series. Mostly it's about my own prejudices that cross off Anaheim, Texas, Minnesota and the Cardinals. And of course the MFYs. I've long been a Giants fan on some secondary level, but their run has gotten old and the team isn't terribly exciting. The Cubs would be too large a national story for me to truly enjoy, though I won't mind if they win. I've been accustomed to hating the Mets and having no great feeling about the Dodgers.

I definitely got interested in the Royals last year for their unique brand of baseball, but not so much that I want a repeat. That leaves the Astros and Blue Jays in the AL. Houston is tempting but I have some doubts about their ability to really perform in the glare of the post-season. The Blue Jays aren't the best run-preventing team but I think their offense is so powerful that it would severely test any opposing pitching staff. Those are great matchups, and I'd be totally up for watching those games.

On the NL side, it's a bit of a tossup between Pittsburgh and the Mets. The Mets have been a pretty crazy story, basically on fire from the moment Wilmer Flores started crying at shortstop, an act of loyalty and love of the game that was impossible not to appreciate. So despite my Mets-hating past (I'm of that age), I really like this team. I'm very tempted by the Pirates, as a small-market team feel-good story with some likable players, but the Mets' pitching against the Blue Jays' hitting would be just fucking great drama. Not sure about the other half of every inning, but I'm sure something will come up.

And in that matchup, I'll take... dammit. The Mets.

I want to see the AL playoffs be Toronto, Houston, KC and Minnesota, and I picked Houston to win.

In the NL, the only thing I really, really want is for the Cardinals to lose.

I voted Cubs.  Words can't describe how I felt in 2004, and I absolutely wish that same feeling upon those who are worthy as Cubs fans.  Plus that team is pretty fun to watch, and Joe Madden has gotten so much more tolerable now that he's not in Tampa.  Lastly...it's Theo.

Cubs or Pirates for me. Sad I can't root for both to meet in the NLCS.

3rd and 4th best records in baseball, so ridiculous that one will be out after the coin flip wild card game silliness, and the other has to play STL.

Not here
Cubs, Pirates, Astros, Blue Jays

As long as it's not the Dodgers and the Yankees, I'm good.

I don't hate any current Mets, except for that cud-chewer Colon, and it's easy to root for that stud rotation.  I'm fine with the Cubs, Pirates, or Astros.

The others I can understand but...you don't want the Twins to do well?

They would be one of the feel good stories of the season.

Cubs, but as long as the team hasn't won in a while (Giants, MFY, Cardinals, maybe the Angels) I won't complain.

over 10 years later and I still get misty eyed when watching the 2004 DVD.

I wish that same happiness for Cubs fans.

I have to say the Mets. I have two family members that are mets fans and although one of them can be an ass about it, and I rarely admit it in front them, I like to see them do well.
I also live in SNY range and have developed a bit of a soft spot for them due to exposure.

Like others have said, anybody but the Cards or MFY I could handle.

I had a bet with a local sports radio guy that the Sox would finish with a better record than the Mets this year.  Loser had to buy the other team's hat and wear it through all of October. So, I suppose I will pull for the Mets. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cubbies win either.

Cubs Jays would be as fun as a non-Sox series could be. Wouldn't at all mind seeing KC back there, though.

I'm pulling for the Jays. I've got a good friend from Toronto and he's so pumped up that I want to see his team get one.

100% rooting for the Cubs in the NL, and over the AL if they make it to the Series.

I'd say I'll probably pull for the Jays in the AL, though the Astros could get my interest as well.

I'd be happy with the Jays, Astros, Rangers, and royals out of the AL. Pitt out of NL

The people talking about remembering the feeling of 2004 and wanting Cubs fans to have it are spot on.  I'd also be psyched to see Mauer win one--he's one of my favorite non-Red Sox.  And Pittsburgh is a great story.

As long as it's not the Yankees or Mets, I'll be happy.

Edit: St Louis gets a permanent pass for letting non ticketed Sox fans in to celebrate in 2004.

I've watched quite a bit of the Twins this year, and they're a fun team. I think the issue some have with them is that they never beat the MFY's.
It's maybe a bit irrational, but the only times I've seen them, they've beaten the Sox with mediocre pitching, so I just associate them with my own frustration. But as silly as it seems, I know I won't root for them against anyone but the MFYs, and of course they'd blow that series.

Maybe that's it for me too. Seems like there were a few years when good Twins teams could have spared us the annoyance by playing even decent baseball against the Yankees in an opening series, but no.

Huh. I always associate them with absurdly good pitching: obviously Santana when he was himself, but also peak Liriano and Nathan/Neshek when they were as good as the best year of Papelbon/Bard.

I live in Canada, and it's fun to have the people around me give a shit about baseball - so my rooting interest is with the Blue Jays from here on in.

A Royals-Blue Jays ALCS is the most compelling possible series to me.
That wouldn't be bad except their uniforms can be very similar. If I'm less than 100% paying attention, as in Red Sox playing, I'd lose track of who's who now and then. Silly, I know. I'd like to see Kershaw and Greinke, Gonzo too, get another chance to get by the Cardinals, and Dodgers - Jays WS, I guess (two blue unis again).

In the AL I don't have any reason to hate Houston or Toronto so they're OK.

In the NL there's a lot of Mets fans who also hate the Yankees so they're cool and the Cubs have former Red Sox folks that I would feel OK rooting for.

Giants obviously but anybody but the Dodgers, Yankees or Cardinals (I don't really hate them but they're there every year) would be OK with me.

I have a big soft spot for the Mets as quite a few family and friends root for them, but the Pirates or Royals doing great would be wonderful too due to their long losing streaks. The Cubs probably have their best years ahead of them, which makes me slightly less keen on rooting for them.

I'm rooting for the Cubs just because I grew up watching them and always considered them, along with the Braves, my favorite NL team. I'll be fine with either KC or HOU winning as well.

Mets all the way.  Howie Rose and Josh Lewin call a very entertaining game, so the Mets have been my go-to on the radio the last few years.  They're a fun team to root for and watching them take off after the Flores episode and the acquisition of Cespedes has made for a really exciting month of baseball (especially coupled with the Nats' collapse).  I get a bit of an '03 Sox vibe from them in that the their personalities have really gelled.

Plus, between injuries and the Wilpons, Terry Collins has earned his moment in the sun.

any of the AL contending teams are fine except MFY.

In NL i don't really care for any of the teams. would be nice for New York to be a Mets town but still New York. Pirates fans are long-suffering but then I remember they are probably Penguins and Steelers fans so fuck them. Giants And Dodgers are a toss-up no love for either. so that leaves Cubs-Cards. if Cubs are going to win they gotta go thru them I think just like Red Sox did in 04 (maybe not from 0-3 though). The Cardinals exhausting "right way" attitude sways me to Cubs. Maddon may be annoying but he is a damn good manager.

Obviously, no NYY. Would prefer Hous or KC or Tor in AL

In NL, I have been a Pirates fan ((behind Sox) since Clemente days so would love for it to be them.

Would be ok with anybody but Cards & Cubs in NL. I know Maddon invented baseball (with an assist from Showalter) and is the smartest and funnest man in history but, I am tired of hearing about him. If they make it to WS the fellating will be Jeter/McCarver level if not worse. Shine has been off the Theo apple a little bit for me for a while now too

Astros vs. Pirates

Haven't yet given up hope on the Nationals catching the Mets.  I have until Monday to pay for my Nationals' post-season tickets, so I'm hoping that they either pick up a game or two this weekend, or fall even further behind, to make the decision easier.

An Astros-Pirates World Series would be the best outcome.

But, realistically, anyone but the Cards, Yankees or Dodgers

I`m rooting for the Cardinals. i have a very sick hope that the Cardinals one day will have more World Series victories than the yankees, of course I`d rather it be the Sox but they are 3 victories closer. In 1967 Lou Brock and Bob Gibson really impressed me and I have always liked the team since then.
