What a disaster this already is. I’m watching golf. I went through an old box of watches and did find I have a watch that sells for like ~$750 (vintage Aquadive 566) so I will take it in for a service with some other stuff.

Aaron Ayahuasca won a Pro Am and I saw him get interviewed (That’s my Quarterback???).

When there was no NFL I thought, oh maybe I’ll check out some NHL. All Star? Fuck you, NHL. This is easily the worst run league. College hoops still sucks, OSU/Mich, I fell asleep. What happened?

I streamed Roma playing futbol yesterday, that was good.

I don’t fucking know guys, it’s too cold and no football. It is some bullshit. Once it gets hot, I’ll be good, I’ll just go to the beach, but these next 2 months will be some bullshit. Free agency and draft will be like suboxone. This sucks.

Edit: maybe this should be in P&G, idk.

I'm rewatching The Last of Us. I went out to lunch and on the TV they were showing LeBron career highlights. No thanks.

I can’t believe there hasn’t been a severe injury yet. I’m not sure I’d want my highest paid defensive end jumping over a wall and pushing Eli Manning in a cart.

Maybe it's my old age, maybe it's because good players are leaving after their freshman year, but I can't watch college basketball. Zero interest.
I miss the old Big East and hating Duke and UCLA. Yup, this weekend sucks.

It would be a lot better for me as a viewer if the players stayed at least 3 years. Maybe NIL will allow kids to stay in school. I agree the sport sucks now and narratives don’t have time to develop.

I don’t even understand who the villain is supposed to be. Chiefs fans are racist, Philly fans are mean (coming from Boston fans???).

I just hope it is not a blow out.

This is me as well. I loved college basketball growing up, absolutely loved it. It bores me to death now.

I think the prevailing wisdom(?) around here is to root for the Eagles, and keep Mahomes from getting closer to Brady ... but I don't really care enough either way. I'll worry about Mahomes getting 7 when he gets into Montana/Bradshaw territory

Im just so indifferent about this Super Bowl. I’ll watch but I don’t remember a SB I was less interested in.

Yes, that's the issue. Anyone who could possibly overshadow Brady is automatically bad. Unfortunately this year the team that can prevent that travesty is unlikable. It's a tragic SB.

Seems like there have been a lot of worse ones. Steelers/Cardinals, Giants/Ravens, Harbaugh Bowl, Broncos/Panthers(puke), Steelers/Hawks, even last year was worse. It’s not even that these matchups were bad but Mahomes vs this loaded Eagles team seems good to me, I get that it’s subjective.

I'm with you. The best QB in the game against probably the most well rounded team. I don't understand the idea that this will be boring.

"Arrowhead" "Chiefs" "The Chant" Based on this and the Senators selected in Missouri vs. Pennsylvania, I'm leaning towards Philly, as much as it pains me.
I'm not worried about the Mahomes against Brady legacy. It's no contest and it never will be a contest.

Mahomes and Kelce don't have much of a say about the chant or the voters' election of Josh Hawley. Those seem like unfair reasons to hope that they lose.

Watching the Auburn/Tennessee basketball game yesterday was absolutely brutal, if UT is the number two team in the nations, that’s a damning indictment on college hoops.

Speaking of which, don't like 95% of families who have a trampoline in the backyard have horrific lower body injuries resulting from these? Maybe not the best idea to bring this in for the catch contest.

I don’t think most of these games are all that risky (newsflash: pro athletes do athlete things), but the use of a trampoline surprised me.

This day is hell. No football, no bruins, my knockout pool mope failed to make the cut(Andrew Putnam) at pebble. A grim reminder of what’s coming after next Sunday. Thankfully, multiple IPAs, and music, are easing my pain.

Even as a Duke fan college basketball has almost completely lost my interest. One and done is horrible. I didn’t even watch the Duke-Carolina game yesterday despite it being on at basically perfect viewing time for me. 25 or 30 year old me would have found this impossible to believe.

It was fun, the games are silly in a good way. Long snapper tic tax toe was epic.

And the trampoline wasn't a risk, because it was one jump off into a mat. The injuries happen when people land on the edge when their momentum takes them too far in the midst of many jumps.

Not possible with the one jump onto a high jump mat.

Any SB with a historically great QB is going to be... historic, and for that reason alone I'll be interested. Either Mahomes ascends another rung on the ladder or the whispers that he is great but not GREAT, start (fair or not). And I think the Eagles are having a very underrated season that has the potential to look pretty historically great in its own right in hindsight if they can finish it.

Just adding to the “college BB has fallen way off” chorus. The hole many feel today is very strongly down to this IMO. Not shaking my fist at a cloud, I swear. The Road to the Final Four used to be very compelling viewing.

Yeah regular season college basketball seems almost pointless. Bring on March madness already.

Well yeah. Transfer portal. Players leaving early. It's a mess.

This.

I used to know the rosters of all the ACC teams, etc. The portal and the players leaving has killed it for me. March Madness is still fun, but the regular season? Meh.

Considering the thread title, I thought I would add something from a different perspective. My wife and I officially ended our "relationship" with the NFL last year. She did watch the Jags/Chiefs playoff game and I saw a little Pats action.Probably less than a game total. That was it. We had been huge NFL fans for decades including a decent run as season ticket holders. We had gradually not enjoyed it as much and last year we decided we are done.

I was a little surprised how quickly we didn't miss football at all. The 'void' was easily filled for the better. One caveat is that we live in a great historical urban neighborhood where we can walk to a ton of things. And, late fall/winter is actually the best weather here. Pretty nice combination for enjoying life. If we lived in a different climate or in suburban hell (to us), it may not have been so easy.

I am not saying our choice is right for anyone else but it may be something to think about. Sorry for the interruption but the title amused me. Carry on.

I've been getting like this with college football. I used to live for Saturdays and I would start with Gameday and watch until the late Pac 12 games were over. Now I watch a fraction of that, and I honestly haven't missed it that much. I'm still on board the NFL train though, what made your NFL fandom decline? Just curious.

Same for me, except the complete decline in my regular season interest has leaked into March madness as well. I haven’t even gotten into a pool since before Covid, and right now, without looking it up, I couldn’t tell you who won the national championship last year. 1990s me couldn’t even conceive of writing this.

I cleaned house (good), went for a run (ugh) and watched ep4 of Last of Us. Ep3 was as wonderful as everyone says, but ep4 returned back to what feels much more like standard Walking Dead-level stuff - not bad, but well-trodden apocolyptic ground.

The NHL all-star break timing coinciding with Pro Bowl weekend couldn't have been worse. If they'd gone one more week, they could have stacked schedules with great games during these doldrums. Instead, the Bruins don't play again until Saturday 2/11, after enduring a 5 games in 7 days push. Just ridiculous.

It was so dumb. It was as if the NHL was trying to be dumb on purpose.
