Almost afraid to broach this topic...just being the messenger here.

Didn't see anything on the board about this and was somewhat surprised.

Patriots reportedly meet with Johnny Manziel multiple times at Texas A&M pro day

Manziel actually met with the Patriots both before and after Texas A&M Pro Day on Tuesday, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.

Johnny Manziel is back on the Patriots’ radar

On Tuesday, New England brass met with NFL washout Johnny Manziel both before and after his workout during Texas A&M’s Pro Day in College Station, according to the Boston Herald.

Manziel, 25, who completed a workout last weekduring the University of San Diego Pro Day in front of several NFL teams, including the Patriots, is trying to get back into the league’s good graces after myriad off-field incidents derailed his career with the Browns in 2016 after two seasons. The Patriots have expressed interest before, having met with Manzielahead of the 2014 draft, when he was selected 22nd overall and a fascinating Heisman Trophy winner.
Noted that this workout was not Patriot-specific, so probably reporters may be reading too much into this? But the first report above sounds more like a one-on-one. Not sure.

It's been discussed a bit in the free agency thread.

I honestly think he should go the CFL to build up his stock again. I wouldn't be against Belichick trolling the league on this one though.

Could be BB playing Jedi kind tricks with the media. Bring Manziel to camp and that’s all anyone will ask him about. Not Malcolm Butler, Jimmy G, Alex G, etc.

I don't know. From many accounts he has his shit together now. He was quite the winner before he threw it all away. I think the interest is real.

Sure, when nobody is looking. But last time folks were paying attention to him he was hitting his girl friend and partying in Vegas during a game week.

Maybe he's cleaned up his act, but he's not good enough to take a chance on considering he could easily turn back into Johnny Manziel.

Not only that but he’s been away from the game for quite a while now. And he wasn’t exactly doing strength training and conditioning the whole time he was away. There are pictures of him looking like a scrawny 150 pounds. I’m sure he has and will continue to get that’s back, but he has a whole lot of proving himself to do.

He doesn’t have to bring in a distraction to deal with other distractions. Bill will simply refuse to discuss Malcolm, Jimmy and Alex and say we’re on to 2018.

Not to mention that Manziel is a bigger potential distraction than any of the rest of them. The Kap issue will move front and center for whatever team brings him in. Manziel would have to be squared with the ghost of Myra Kraft.

I am not against it. Hell I’d understand it if they brought in Manziel and Kap. Not to troll but because our QB backup is a career backup.

Nothing to see here.

Can’t find it but read a good piece re: just how hard the Canadian game can be for a QB not used to it: the 12th player gives the QB another receiver but vastly increases the number and complexity of the packages a secondary can show with an extra DB; the wider field makes the sideline throw more difficult; American QBs are unusedto the forward motion by WR’s; only 3 downs so no waste plays; etc.

With no practice and Montreal being a bad team I’m not surprised.

Plus at least 1 pick I saw was a bobble by the receiver.

FWIW I enjoy the CFL a lot. Plus it lets my annoy Mrs O, that I’m watching football (which she hates) on Thursday nights in July.

Because he won a Heisman in the SEC, is from Texas, and has an interesting story with a potential redemption angle. He’s a walking sports movie if successful. But you knew that.

Also, once you hit a critical mass with your marketing, you can get other people to do the marketing work for you for free,

It's called "viral." Or something.

Why does he continue to get attention paid to him?
Because he's called Johnny Football, which people don't realize is an ironic nickname at this point.

Because he's fucking awful at it.

Then again, Johnny Dead-by-35 doesn't have the same appeal, nor does Johnny Walking Disaster.

ESPN clickbait.

It had an epic weekend even by four-letter standards. They Baghdad-bobbed Tiger’s meltdown at the Bridgestone yesterday. Today, the tournament does not exist.

With an additional qualifier..."won a Heisman [as a freshman]...the only person up to that time to have done so. Of course, Jameis set us all straight the following year...at an even younger age.

Released by the Alouettes, and furthermore barred from the CFL.

According to a source, Manziel violated a set of conditions set forth by the CFL when he originally signed in May 2018. Although the league never specified the terms, it said in a statement that they were "extensive and exacting" and were generated after an assessment from an independent expert on domestic violence.
Next stop, probably the AAF or XFL.

If Manziel is truly bipolar (as the article says he claims to be), then he is worthy of our sympathy. Of course, if he’s merely feigning mental illness in an effort to excuse his bad behavior, it would hardly be the first time someone has done that.

We might see him in the XFL next year if that league actually gets off the ground. If not, I suspect this is the end of the road for Johnny Football.
