The in-booth guys got it right earlier. The vortex of pitching suck is really the starters, pulling everyone else in. The bullpen hasn't been that good, but you can't keep tapping them in the fourth or fifth inning. The starters have to be able to go seven or eight more often.

If Cora was to let Porcello keep pitching inning after inning, how long would it take until Rick’s ERA reached 6.00?

I think he gets there in the fourth inning.

So the Red Sox with the highest payroll in baseball probably are not going to make the playoffs, while this clownshow of a franchise with a payroll of $17.62 and 17 fans are, that's just all kinds of fucking awesome.

It's totally irrational, but I hate this little train that could/pack of plucky ballbags of a franchise.

I blame Maddon.

I keep seeing people post this. What could he have sold? And for what value other than getting off the roster so that we wouldn’t have to watch them anymore. Just to watch some kid that we’re excited about, simply because we don’t know that they suck yet, when in reality, if they were any good they’d be on the roster already, or not available for the corpse of guys like Rick Porcello. Isn’t the possibility of success greater by simply riding this roster out to see if literally the same starting staff as last season can figure it out and make a run? Or are people just being irrational and just don’t want to see their stupid faces again?
I think Porcello could’ve brought some random prospect or two. I’d look to see what you could get for JBJ, Moreland, Mookie. This team isn’t going anywhere in 2019 so aim for 2020 imo.

What really pisses me off is that DD was not even 1 pct creative this year. Everyone says the payroll is a constraint...OK, then get creative and move some offense for some pitching. Do SOMEthing to shake up a team that has a lot of talent yet cannot go on a sustained run of wins bc the pitching sucks.

DD lazed it up this year. Guy off the street could have made the same moves

But you'd be selling low on Mookie, probably Jackie too. And Moreland's off an injury and is 33. Devers, he could fetch something. But no way in hell I'd dangle him.

The Sox need to stop wasting so much money giving big contracts to mediocre players and use some of that money to steal coaches ,scouts, and other baseball ops talent from the Rays.
