What would Devers fetch in a trade?

You don't trade a top 20 bat for a 30yo platoon guy w/ a lifetime 107 wRC+ (Slater), the majority being vLs (132 wRC+); TERRIBLE vs. Rs (82 wRC+). And Thairo and his 102 wRC+. My God.

If Devers won't sign, you try to get Baty or Francisco Alvarez. Mets have tried Baty in the OF because they're not sure if he can stick at 3b. Alvarez isn't a sure thing at C either. But the Mets are ripe for the picking so do what you can to get one of these guys. Eat McCann and Escobar's contracts to get a big prospect package. Alvarez reminds me a lot of Kevin Mitchell, blasting jacks to LF with vicious authority.

EDIT: Just saw on BTV that Alvarez is worth 63 mil. Wow.

Alvarez is the consensus #1 prospect in all of MLB currently. Never say never with Cohen but I don’t think he’s going anywhere, Baty I think is possible.

At minimum aim for a top 30-ish prospect or pre-arb guy plus another high ceiling prospect.

Mets for Brett Baty + Blake Tidwell
Giants for Marco Luciano + Reggie Crawford or Wisenhunt
Phillies for Mick Abel + Alec Bohm
Rangers for Josh Jung + Kumar Rocker
Cubs for Pete Crow-Armstrong + Ben Brown

I’d add salary to each to make sure I’m taking the most talent back.

The Mets sign Correa to play 3rd, so presumably are out on Devers, but who knows with Cohen.

Well suddenly Vogelbach looks a little scuffed compared to the rest of the lineup, maybe Cohen wants to upgrade his DH too.

Devers for Lindor would make sense for the Mets. They'd have everyone at their correct position and get out from under a long term deal. But it would probably mean Turner and Dalbec at third for the Red Sox and that's not so great.

I really don't think the Mets care about money or "correct" positions. Steve Cohen's going for broke. Lindor's a better overall player than Devers and he's locked up long term. I don't see why the Mets do that.

Lindor reportedly lobbied Cohen for the Correa deal, so this seems especially unlikely.

Thank you. I was wondering what alternate universe we had fallen into. If after everything fails the choice winds up being two mediocrities or the pick attached to a QO I'm taking the latter 101 times out of 100.

A very interesting Devers trade proposal from Bleacher Report:

To MIN: 3B Rafael Devers
To BOS: IF Jose Miranda, OF Emmanuel Rodriguez, RHP Matt Canterino, 2B Edouard Julien

Miranda projects to post a .748 OPS next season. Last year, he logged the majority of his innings at 1B, but he also slotted at 3B and even DH, so he brings some positional flexibility. He's only 24 so I am going to guess there is room for improvement and growth in all aspects of his game. The other three players are higher-ceiling prospects.

Not the worst deal in the world, although if we have to give up Devers I'd rather call San Francisco and see if they are desperate to make a deal after the Correa fiasco. Thoughts?

I see what you’re saying, in that Devers is a top-20 offensive talent who costs you something with the glove, just as IT was a great scorer who played bad D. But constructing a basketball team around a bad defender is a lot different than signing a baseball player who can mash and sticking him someplace where his glove won’t hurt you too much.
I’ve thought about this a bunch and you are 100% right. I like the example but it fails to translate well between the leagues.

If we pay Devers, a Level 2 super star, $300/10 then we may be looking at $500/12 for Ohtani.

This is the right way to think about dealing Devers. If your not getting this, tell them to pound sand
