The crazy thing is that he *never drops the character* ever in an interview.

Like, he just won his sixth title. He drew up a defensive game plan that held one of the highest scoring offenses in the highest scoring year of all time to 3 points. He has a dynasty that spans 20 years.

"All the credit goes to the players, who tackled, stopped the running game, hit the quarterback, and made the plays."

I mean shit in large part the defensive players that started this run are now coaches, grandparents, media celebrities, etc. It's just incredible how he manages never to take credit.

It's not a character. It's who he is.

Right, but I also think he both believes it and also understands some basic principles of being an adult: don't pat yourself on the back, act like you've been there.

The bigger thing to me is that he's always first in line to take the blame when it doesn't go well. How many NFL HC's are willing to do that? There's usually some explanation or excuse with other coaches. Never BB. He may be ornery after a loss but he almost always takes blame and gives the other team credit.

Here are some things we have been talking about, with some added bits to each one:

• JMac. Have people forgotten how many people, both pundits and SOSHers, were thinking that he wouldn't even make the team after what appeared to be a shitty preseason? Today we are talking about an all-time great individual effort that may have saved the game. Not quite Malcolm-level, but certainly one of the top 3-5 defensive plays in the Pats Super Bowl history.
• Edelman. Even when they didn't throw it to him, it seemed he was open on every play. Contrast that with Hogan and White who seemed to never be open the whole game.
• Gronk. My guess is that he will be back in 2019. I wasn't game-threading in real time, but was the freakout level high when he came up limping? His game really showed what a weapon he is, blocking and receiving. Furthermore, his catches were of both types: the athletic ones (like the one where he dove to catch it on the 3) and the bulldog type, where it seemed that the only way the Rams could bring him down was to throw there guys at him.
• Gilmore. Remember when people thought that BB fucked up with that signing? His forced fumble on Anderson was one backspin away from being a game-changing play, but it was impressive nonetheless.
• Flores. Can I dream that he pulls a Josh McD this morning at his press conference to say that he will be returning to the Pats?
• TB. Was this his worst Super Bowl? His lowest rating; only time he didn't throw for a TD; a lot of bad throws. But who cares!
• BB. Was this his best Super Bowl? I think that is certainly in the argument, probably only trailing Super Bowl 36.

I think that ultimately the legacy of this season will be these last two games and the unwillingness of Brady and Belichick to roll over and cede control of the league to the next generation of uber-talented wunderkinds. Brady out dueled Mahomes in the AFC championship game and Belichick took McVay to the woodshed last night. Both of these guys with emphatic, back to back statement games saying, y'all might got next, but we still got NOW.
