Premise of this thread is simple. We’re all reading tea leaves and making assumptions. Other thread should be for actual Soto news.

This thread is all about feelings. What does your gut or available info lead you to believe where Soto is signing?

Voted Mets. Yankees would be my second guess. I'll be happy to be wrong if he signs with the Sox. There's no sense in getting hopes up in the meantime.

I voted with my head: The Mets. It just seems like they will pay whatever they need to land him. I think the Sox are in the running until then end, but will come up short when the $$ just gets too insane.

The Dodgers' proposal will include some financial derring-do that Soto won't like and the Yankees will absolutely not allow themselves to be beaten out by the Sox on $. But we'll hear plenty about how close he is to choosing the Sox until he "surprisingly" chooses the Yankees.

Voted Mets (because I couldn't bring myself to vote "Yankees") but I think it's a 48% chance it's the Mets, 48% chance its the Yankees and 4% chance it's someone else.

I do think the Red Sox are making a legitimate effort and are genuinely doing a ton to sign him. Could they offer him 15/$600m - for sure. Will that stop the Mets or Yankees from offering 15/$650m - nope.

I think the Red Sox pursuit is real but Cohen's checkbook wins out and he goes to the Mets.

I am voting on a dark horse candidate, Detroit.

They have almost no payroll, look like their window is opening, and have shown the ability/desire to go all in in the past. And they need bats.

Also, it would just be wild.

Yeah. There is no price too high for them to pay. Without him [the Yankees] are a mediocre wild card periphery team.
Can’t wait.

I voted Red Sox. It’s made sense for a long time and makes a lot else retroactively make sense. I think it’s going to happen.

This is going to be one of those all too common times we look back and say, "Oh, yeah. He was going back to the Yankees all along."

That there are so many varying opinions and options means Boras did his job.

It will come down to whether he wants the biggest check (Met$) or if he wants to be the next Papi/Manny/Ted at Fenway.

Voted Mets

Voted Sox because, why not? No one seems to really know anything, and it'd be a lot of fun for years to come.

Went between Yankees and Nets but ultimately voting for Yankees on the grounds that Soto is not Robinson Cano.

I voted Dodgers but that was because I was very tired and momentarily forgot the Mets existed.

I went with Yankees, though its 50% Yankees, 49% Mets, 1% some other team.
Also, FWIW, I think the "he's a Sox fan because he loved watching Pedro/Ortiz/Manny growing up" and the "Ortiz is trying to recruit him" angles are overblown.

Voted Red Sox. I'm way too excited about the noise around him coming here, and I'm probably setting myself up for a huge disappointment.

My gut tells me the Yankees are kinda/sorta out, and they just don't know it yet. I have this twisted fantasy where he signs here, and trashes the Yankee organization on his way out - calling Boone an idiot and Judge/Cole a couple of apathetic players who entering the downswing of their careers.

What?
It makes so much sense for Boston to do this. He’s so young and so good and the farm is about to yield a bumper crop. This is the moment, this is the guy, to flex for.

I don’t hold ownership in contempt. They have made some bad choices, but the last few years have been about saving powder and not being stupid, and now they are going to fire all of their guns at once.

Things are gonna change, I can feel it.

Voted Mets, just because I think Cohen will pull out all the stops to snag a player from the other side of town. But honestly voted with not a lot of conviction; Soto staying with NYY has just as much likelihood, in my mind.

Boston appears to be making a serious effort, and I think will end up offering a lot more than some expect. But it probably will fall just short.

Yankees.

I've seen this movie 100x before

Boras, Mets, LAD & Sox all drive the price up, which will be a small consolation prize.

Yankees? I can't see them trading their future for a player of Soto's caliber without thinking of his extension ahead of time. But hey, I would not mind at all if he slides over to Boston. That would make me forget about Mookie (finally).

Okay - this is a reach, but what the hell.

This Facebook profile has almost a million followers. Is that any indication of it actually being Juan Soto?

92180

I want to believe it is. Because this profile was “liking” posts calling for Boone to be fired, and posts made by fans saying Soto was carrying the team, etc.

So a reach? Sure. But I’ll take anything that plays into my narrative that Soto hates Boone, and isn’t too keen on remaining a Yankee either.

Boone coming back for another season after his woefully unprepared the Yankees were, and those damning scouting reports by the Dodgers is pretty mystifying. Dude should be gone. Maybe a red flag for Soto.

If that tweet about him looking for 12-14 at $45 annually is true then he is a Met. I think they’ll go up to $60mm annually.

It was probably bad info but I can’t see anyone outbidding the Mets. I fully support the Sox spending silly, it’s a big reason I’ve been advocating for saving up dry powder the last few seasons. This is a guy that you empty your pockets for assuming your team is assembled the right way….and the Sox are (outside of 3-4 hurlers, but with Soto we’ll be blowing thru the cap for sure)

This is where I am at. If it’s truly just money I can’t fathom the Mets losing out.

I weirdly just don’t see the Yankees being in this, they can’t beat the Mets with money and they can’t beat the Red Sox with a youthful core. I just don’t see it. I could be completely off base.

I do think that we probably undersell the fact that Soto has been with 3 teams. If he went from the Nationals to the Yankees I’d be much more inclined to think he felt the lure of the Yankees. But he’s had a really weird career when it comes to playing with different teams across the country.

Voted Sox because he wants to be the franchise face and Papi.. Mets are probably where he goes if it's a huge difference in $$$'s and he likes NY that much. Yanks are not going to be it imho.
