One poll, answer twice---one answer on what matchup you WANT to see and one on who you are rooting for.

You can also drop an "anyone but KC" type of answer in the thread.

Those SF-Cincy Super Bowls weren’t bad. Let’s do that again with a different outcome.

I called Cincy / SF at the beginning of the playoffs, rooting for the Bungles. Gonna need a miracle I think for both to win yet again on the road but after last weekend anything is possible.

Jimmy!

I think KC v LA is likely the best game, and on one hand it would be nice to have such a clear rooting interest, but imo there are three really likable teams and the Chiefs left. I'd rather the threat of them winning be done this Sunday, even if it would make for slightly more fun buildup to have them make the SB.

Borderline neutral between the other three, I'd be happy with any, but I'm going SF, LA, Cincinnati in that order. I think JG winning the super bowl would be fucking hilarious. Alternatively, I'd be so happy to see Stafford win and I kind of still love OBJ. Burrow and the Bengals are fine, but they were truly not on my radar as a contender until maybe a month ago, so I feel a little too uninvested in them hence they slot in three. #ABKC indeed.

As my late sister used to always say, “Go Bengals!”

And I think the LAR have wandered in the post SB desert long enough. If McVay can just let Stafford off the leash, I think it might be OK vs SF this third time.

Please no Rams in the Super Bowl here in Los Angeles. I have nothing against the Rams. I just feel like that would be extra annoying around these parts. And obviously, I've had enough with the Chiefs.

Are there more Rams fans in the LA area than Niners fans? I ask because the Rams left LA for a long time before returning only recently.

You've heard of fair weather fans? Well, this city is full of them, and the Rams have been good for a while. If the Los Angeles Rams are in the Super Bowl, there will be a great many among LA's 13M+ population.

Gotcha, although I'd think that there'd be many Niners fans in that area, too. If so, maybe you're screwed either way.

SF vs Cincinnati

No rooting interest between them. I have good friends that are fans of both teams. Probably lean Cincinnati, but not enough that I voted for it in the poll.

The 49ers and Rams are kind of big rivals, and their stadiums are about 350 miles apart. So, I don't know why there would be a lot of 49er fans in LA. Raiders, yes, because they played there for 13 years and won a Super Bowl while there. Will say, that, during the recent Rams - 49ers game in LA there was quite a lot of cheering for the 49ers. But, I didn't see much red in the stands. In general, San Francisco, or Northern California fans are probably more vocal than LA fans though. JMO.

Either California team is fine, just no Kansas City.

The real answer is anyone but Kansas City. My wife's team is the Rams, so I am lukewarmly rooting for them (there was a moment of marital discord on Sunday when I was supposed to be rooting for the Rams but blurted out an ingrained "let's go Gronk!" at an inopportune time), but would be thrilled if the Bengals could somehow emerge on top.

California. Duh.
As a lifelong Rams fan (yes, there are a few of us) that lives in the SF Bay Area, Sunday will either be one of the most fun or one of the most miserable days of my life.

49ers fans can be as obnoxious as Yankees fans, with the added annoyance that they just disappear when the team sucks (you'd be amazed how many people around here suddenly became Pats fans in the early 2000's and justified it that Brady is a local guy) but come roaring back during a playoff run. I can't tell you how many times a 20-something has pulled the "FIVE RINGS" crap with me, despite him not being old enough to remember any of them.

It’s actually worse than that (although some obviously pre-Stafford). SF has won the last 6 vs the Rams.

I picked SF-Cin. I don’t want KC to have another chance. I am rooting for SF as a (nearly) lifelong fan. My heart was with Buffalo in honor of my father who passed away a few weeks ago. I think I would have even rooted for them against SF. He had season tickets back in the 60s and I think his best friend’s father even was an assistant coach back in the AFL days.

If he hadn’t died on January 8, Sunday night would have most certainly killed him. My hate for the Chiefs knows no bounds. It’s Yankee-esque.

No strong preference, so I'm going with Cincy over SF based on the uniforms I like better. Especially the helmets, those stripes look cool.

I'm rooting for the 49ers, since Jimmy G's parents live down the street from me. I'd like to see them beat KC, mostly because they are a throwback kind of defense and running game team in an era of super offense.

My thoughts are often filtered through a Patriots lens. So...

A SF win ties NE with 6 Super Bowl titles. So, as much as I like JG, no.

A KC Super Bowl appearance gives them three SB appearances in a row (2019, 2020, 2021). The last team to do that? The Patriots (2016, 2017, 2018). So as exciting as they are to watch, no.

So for me...Cincy vs. the Rams is preferable from my POV as a Pats' fan. Which might be the kind of game that gets Burrow murdered, but which also could be a pretty exciting contest.

I like Mahomes and Reid but can't fathom rooting for Tyreek Hill and Frank Clark. I'm on Team Anybody But Kansas City.

I'm rather indifferent towards San Fran and LA. I think the Rams have the better team and thus a better chance at knocking off the Chiefs in the Super Bowl if it comes to that.

I totally forgot this part, thanks. As much as I loved Lott and Rathman (and Montana and Young and Rice), I may be changing my allegiances due to SB leaderboard stuff.

Yeah if I can guarantee a Bengals win, i'd root for SF in the NFCCG. But since I can't I will probably change my allegiance to Rams in the CG.

I need to find the gamethread from 2 years ago. Don't remember if I rooted for KC because they had fewer Lombardis or for 49ers because of Jimmy G.

Good news that the AFC game is first so we can root as appropriate in game 2. If KC wins go Rams; if Cincy wins go Niners.

My list of possible outcomes from 1 (prefered) to 99 (please no!):
1a. 49ers
1b. Bengals
2. Rams
3.-97. Any other possible possible scenario
98. SuperBowl canceled
99. KC

In addition to generally disliking the Chiefs, I also am sick of seeing stories about Mahomes’ fiancée acting aggrieved about getting attention while actively self-promoting her status as his fiancée and just being kind of clueless.

I just want the Chiefs to lose.
I get media have to talk but I had to isolate and ended up flipping through the ESPN talking heads afternoon
"Does this make Andy Reid the GOAT?"
Seems Mahomes=Michael Jordan is an ESPN-required talking point.
Also Mahomes family

Rooting hard for the Bengals. I’ve always had a soft spot for them. They ran into then 49ers buzzsaw in the 80s, and were horrible for so long thereafter. Love the gawdy helmet and uniforms. Ickey Woods And Boomer. The new group is likeable. Underrated city overall. If they can’t pull it off, then seeing Stafford and the LAR would be interesting. Keeps the 9ers from getting six championships. Share the sentiment that KC winning would be the worst case scenario.

I love Mahomes. Such a great QB. Why is there some hate for him? He's seems like a good guy and a heck of a teammate. And one hell of a QB.
As mentioned by someone else upthread, there is no way I root for Hill or Clark. That, and the way the media treats Mahomes and Reid compared to how they used to treat someone on the Patriots is quite the turn-off.

His penchant for running up the sidelines, faking a step out to get the D to ease up, then taking an extra step or two afterwards, then ducking out of bounds as soon as they start to line him back up, while grinning about it.

Rooting for Bengals-49ers. Think it will be KC-49ers.

Maybe Rams, that one should be close. I just think the Niners kind of have them figured out. You don't win six straight against the same team by accident. At the very least, it feels like you have to give the coaching edge to Shanahan. Jimmy G is a liability, but Stafford isn't exactly immune to bad throws and decisions either. Niners can get pressure with four, inside and outside, and that can cover up a lot in the back.

KC should beat Cinci, but maybe that ends up being another shootout where the last team with the ball wins. I just can't pick against KC, not after what they showed (again) last week. I love Burrow but he's not on Mahomes level yet. Mahomes is an alien.

Right there with you. I can understand rooting against KC and despising them. Mahomes is on another level. That dude is just insanely good.

Once the Pats are out, I usually find myself rooting for the fans more than the actual players/coaches, thus the Bengals. Rams and 49ers have had their share of success in the last 30 years so Jimmy G is the tie breaker

This is glorious. I have adamantly rooted against a team in the SB for the past 20+ years, maybe longer. This year it absolutely doesn’t matter who wins and it will be so enjoyable.
