Of the 81 guys they have brought in or met with I averaged The Huddle and The Draft Network big boards to project the average draft pick value of the meetings. This is usually decent for a general direction. No shockers here.

Last time they spent this much of their visit currency on WRs they double dipped (2013) in the 2nd and 4th. My nominees there are Miles Boykin and Stanley Morgan Jr.

Edit:
I can't upload the picture.

Positions --> Draft Value of Visits --> % of Total Value of Visits --> Rank
WR --> 2,309 --> 23.9% --> 1
Edge --> 1,265 --> 13.1% --> 2
TE --> 1,221 --> 12.6% --> 3
DT --> 1,142 --> 11.8% --> 4
OT --> 956 --> 9.9% --> 5
QB --> 717 --> 7.4% --> 6
SS --> 513 --> 5.3% --> 7
RB --> 409 --> 4.2% --> 8
CB --> 385 --> 4.0% --> 9
LB --> 306 --> 3.2% --> 10
FS --> 221 --> 2.3% --> 11
OG --> 219 --> 2.3% --> 12
Total --> 9,661 --> 100% --> NA

Final edit: Once Arif Hasan releases his big board and we get the final lists of visitors I will update this.

Nobody:
Me: Let me share my 2019 draft binkies!

Here's a player (or two) at each position that I really like, generally more than the rest of the Draft Twitter consensus.

QB: Jarrett Stidham (Auburn). I genuinely think he's got a chance to be one of the top 1-2 QBs from this class. He was a 5* recruit out of HS who excelled as a freshman at Baylor. Transferred to Auburn after the Briles scandal (spent a ear at JUCO) and was really good his first year at Auburn. Came into 2018 looking like a 1st round prospect, but he and the team underachieved. Wasn't all his fault though and he had a monster bowl game with Malzahn back calling plays. Plus arm, natural thrower and athletic scrambler. I can easily see him as a quality starting QB. Might be a 2nd round pick. People overreacted to his RS Junior year this season; the guy who lit up Purdue is more reflective of who Stidham is.

RB: Kerrith White (FAU). Bit of a deep sleeper, as he played behind Devin Singletary and wasn't a combine invite. Excellent pro day, running sub 4.4, 42" vertical and over 20+ bench reps. Explosive athlete and plus kick returner. Smallish frame (5'10, 197#) but will run inside. Wasn't a big part of the passing game, but I could see him being groomed for NE's passing back role while he takes over return duties. Late Day 3 or PFA, but he's worth a draft pick for me. Lots of tread on the tires and really good traits.

WR: Penny Hart (Georgia St). Measurables-based teams won't touch him (5'8, 180#, 4.63 40), but he's a really good football player. Very quick, and gets to top speed quickly, achieving instant separation. Big hands for a small frame and catches cleanly. Was a pain in the butt to cover at the Senior Bowl. Good punt returner adds to his value. Reminds me a bit of Jeremy Kerley, one of those guys who hangs around the league and is greater than the sum of his parts. I think he goes mid-late Day 3, and I like his slot fit for NE. Some Troy Brown stuff to him.

TE: Caleb Wilson (UCLA). Draft Twitter is mixed on him, with some really liking him and others seeing him as late Day 3. I like him - lacks bulk but athletic enough, tough enough and catches it well. Gave good effort in-line at the Y TE, but he'll need to add some mass to do it at the next level. My best guess is round 4 or 5, but who knows. Still a developing player and I'm not sure how much weight he can add (6'4, 240#). If he can get up to the 255# range while maintaining his 4.56 40 speed, you've got an interesting guy. Got better every year and had good production as a RS Junior in 2018.

OT: Derwin Gray (MD). Maryland always has a few players who seem to end up as better pros than they were in college (Diggs, JC Jackson, etc.). Gray isn't the longest tackle at 6'4, but he carries his natural size (320#) well, is very strong and moves his feet. Played LT for the Terps and might have LT ability in the NFL. Good developmental prospect for Day 3. I think he's the next Maryland guy to outperform his draft stock. (Darnell Savage was going to be that guy and I wrote about him a while ago, but people caught on to how good Savage is - he'll be a top 40 or 50 player).

OC/OG: Shaq Calhoun (Miss St). Two Shaqs are better than one. At 6'2, 310#, he's on the smaller size but he moves well, blocks in space and he's very tough. SEC proven player. He's a very Patriots-y OL. Reminded me a little of Shaq Mason in terms of traits. I think the Patriots will like him more than most. Day 3 pick.

DE/OLB: Jamal Davis (Akron). Really good athlete (4.6 40, 39" vertical) who is more athlete than producer, but I liked his tape. 6'3, 240#, he's more of a 3-4 OLB and I'm not sold on the scheme fit for NE. Still, he's tough, sets a decent edge and has pass rush potential. Has some Van Noy measurables and a good developmental prospect for Day 3.

DT: Armon Watts (Arkansas). I might as well be Watts' agent because I think I'm higher on him than anyone. To me, he's Day 2 all the way. Everyone else seems to have him late Day 3 or PFA. I have no idea why. Natural size at 6'5, 300#. Had a really good senior year at Arkansas and was a Bielema recruit (which has worked out well for NE). Really held his own against Alabama. I see a 3-down player who is strong, anchors vs. the run and disrupts in the passing game. I think the Patriots will be very interested in him.

DT: Cortez Broughton (Cincinnati). I'll double-up at DT because Watts is basically my bonus binkie. Broughton seems to be a late riser off his pro day (6'2, 293#, 4.98 40, 33" vertical) but his senior tape was pretty impressive. Shows some explosion and knocks OL backwards. Good motor and gets into the backfield (17.5 TFL, 6.5 sacks). Can anchor vs. the run and shows potential as a 3-down DT. He's not as big as the traditional NE DTs, but I really like this guy. I think he's at least a rotational DT and a really good Day 3 pick.

Off the ball LB: Drue Tranquil (Notre Dame). Average size (6'2, 235#) but tested well at the combine (4.57 40, 37" vertical, 31 bench reps). I liked his tape - tough player who doesn't shy away from contact and covers a lot of ground. Profiles as a good ST player who might have the talent to win a LB job. Day 3 pick. Has some Patriots type traits.

CB: Jimmy Moreland (James Madison). Has the measurables the Patriots like in a corner: just under 5'10, but runs 4.45, 39" vertical and 6.8 33-cone. Really good hands/ball skills: 18 career picks with 6(!) returned for a TD. Good ST player who blocked 6 kicks in his career. Like JC Jackson, a character issue will push him down draft boards; arrested for petty theft in 2015 and kicked off the team for a year. Still, he doesn't seem like a bad kid and the talent and production are evident. Not as strong or physical as JC Jackson, but Moreland's talent level is in the ballpark. Day 3 pick, but as talented (or more) than some of the corners who will go Day 2.

S: Andrew Wingard (Wyoming). I really liked his tape; very good tackler who strikes with good form and reliably brings down ball carriers. His physical skills are average (6', 209#, 4.56 40, 36" vertical, 7.08 3-cone) and he's probably a special teams coverage guy who possibly earns a safety role. Marginal cover skills, but a tough, physical guy who'll do his job. Late Day 3 or PFA.

Does anyone have a good source for sortable/searchable pro day results besides walterfootball.com? I was too busy this year to keep up with them as they were happening and just got through the combine players this weekend so I'd like to get to some of the non-invites.

If you want I have a spreadsheet on google with one sheet of all the 1,900 prospects and their data as well a sheet with just the top 160 guys (average ranking of the draft network and the huddle) with their athletic testing. PM me if you or anyone else wants it.

Edit: I download all my data from the guy @Super Nomario is talking about. Kent is amazing. RAS has an export feature and you can also customize and copy paste the metrics you want. @Mathbomb is his twitter.

What were the participants smoking with Dexter Lawrence making it to 56? He likely does not make it out of the first round.

I like this part:

Two days before last year’s draft, Schefter went on ESPN’s NFL Live over the phone from Dallas to discuss a piece of information he’d learned: Former Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, he reported, was “square in the conversation” to be drafted by the Browns No. 1 overall.

Host Wendi Nix opened the conversation in-studio in Bristol by noting it’s the season for smokescreens. “And bologna, and malarkey,” Bill Polian, the Hall of Fame GM, replied on set. “Late intelligence is suspect intelligence, that’s the way I would look at it. … I wouldn’t give it a lot of credence.”

I love watching physical RBs. Jeremy Cox of Old Dominion (6'0 223lbs) is my kind of player, probably more so than what the Patriots like and more than what they need. He apparently tested well at his pro day, but I'm a little suspicious. He doesn't look like a 4.42 40 or 6.9 3-cone guy, but I wouldn't have looked at him otherwise. I thought his video against Virginia Tech this last season was a lot of fun to watch, so I'll share it here.

I would be over the moon if we somehow got Christian Wilkins. I taught him at Clemson and he's a really great kid and really smart, not just by football player standards. I doubt he'll fall far enough though

My final thoughts on the 2018 class for the Patriots.

Tight end: If Hock slides grab him. He is one of the few genuine 1st round talents in this draft class. He is worth 32 + a 2nd (32 in this years draft is like a 2nd anyway). Jace Sternberger is not athletic enough to warrant a 1 or a 2 and probably not even a 3 for them. Same for Irv Smith Jr. If they think Noah Fant can be a good blocker (I do not) then he is there other option in round 1. There are 3 guys not named Hock (or Fant) fit their athletic profile as a primary TE1: Dawson Knox, Kahale Warring, and Foster Moreau. Josh Oliver and Drew Sample are close. I think if they go TE day 2 or early day 3 it will be one of those first 2 with the other 3 as day 3 guys. My favorites are Knox and Warring. If they grab Knox or Warring I'll give $25 to the usual.

Wide receiver: incredible depth to the class. The guys I think they will see draft in rounds 2/3 and the best fits are: McLaurin, Boykin, Isabella, Samuel, AJ Brown, Mecole Hardman, and maybe Hakeem Butler. Stanley Morgan Jr and Nick Easley are the guys I really like as slot/Z and slot respectively on day 3. I believe they double dip here and it wouldn't surprise me to see two types of versatile receivers picked. I love everyone on that list minus Hardman. If they get 2 of the above but especially 2 of the day 2 guys I will give $25 to the usual. Oh hell, if they grab Boykins I'll chip in the same amount anyway. They might have an interest with Deebo because he's a diverse guy and can return kicks. He is close to the minimum athletic thresholds for them or exceeds them. Another guy early aside from Brown would be Harry. I just don’t think he fits playstyle wise or athleticism but he could play all three roles. A position we see with 1/6+

Offensive Line: fairly deep group. I didn't really have the time to deep dive on them but the way I see it and thanks @Super Nomario for the insight here they have 3-4 primary options as tackles: Yodny Cajuste is my favorite but forecasters see him as an early round 4 pick. Max Scharping, Kaleb McGrady, and Greg Little are the other two options. Bill might either trade for a swing tackle in the NFL already but I would be shocked if they didn't draft a tackle given Wynn's injury and ?. If they want a guard there are plenty of day 3 options. I expect an investment though and one of those 6 day 1/2 picks spent here. If they grab Yodny I'll give $10.

RB: I didn't really look much here. Maybe they get either a power guy or another pass catcher on day 3. Maybe someone with return skills?

QB: I think it's between the four they looked at: Grier, Finley, Stidham, and Jones. Of those guys I would stay the hell away from Jones. I think Finley makes the most sense but I just don't see anything there more than a backup. I'd ride with Will the Thrill. Stidham doesn't have the production they are looking for but part of that was he was a poor fit on his offense senior year. $25 for Will the Thrill.

DT: Depending on how BB feels about Lawrence and Tillery those are the only options at 32 and neither may make it. After that you have a steep drop-off until the 3rd/4th round. I think If BB wants a DT he needs to get one early and might even trade up for the right guy. Then again he hasn't used his tackles as 3 down players as much lately. Lawrence would give him a ton of options with what to do with the line but Tillery profiles to be a better pass rusher. Imagine Lawrence as a picker though...

Edge: There are some sub rushers I think they might like as well as Anthony Nelson and Charles Omenihu who are complete ends who can kick inside to rush the passer. Winovich is another option but he is a little undersized for them. $10 for any of the above.

LB: I could see them taking one late round 3 or round 4+ but I don't think they make a big investment there. I like Jahlani Tavai a lot and also hybrid Justin Hollins. $10 for either of them.

S: I love this safety class. Another position where they could invest early for a Chung backup or a long term DMC replacement. I think CGJ could be both as well as be a nickel. Same for Darnell Savage who is my favorite safety in the class. I love how he plays the run. He is a bit undersized for them but very close to 200. His athletic profile is outstanding. Amani Hooker from Iowa is another option. Generally there are a good mix of guys they can get in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round should they want to upgrade there. $25 for CGJ or Savage, $10 or Hooker, heh.

CB: Not deep at the top but there are 6-8 pressman types they could get day 2 or even 3 who fit their athletic profile and are good against the run.

I think the hard part with them is figuring out where they spend. I wouldn't be shocked if aside from OT they went:

32: DT/S/CB (Lawrence, Tillery, CGJ, Savage, Abram (Bleh), Adderly, Rock Ya-Sin, etc.)

56: OT (Cajuste, Sharping)

64: QB Will Grier

72: WR Miles Boykin/Terry McLaurin (you could swap 72 and 56)

97: TE Kahale Warring

101: Edge.Charles Omenihu or a DT like Mack.

That's my final mock and thoughts for this draft class. Was a fun one. Can't wait to see what happens.

I only really watched the receivers this year but I wrote about them for ITP: http://insidethepylon.com/nfl/2019-nfl-draft/2019/04/24/2019-wr-draft-superlatives/

(let me know if there are typos)

My two favorites are Marquise Brown and A.J. Brown, but those guys have as much value to every other team as the do to the Patriots. A few guys that I think fit the Patriots better than they do other teams:
  • Deebo Samuel returns kicks, has a good all-around game, and is ridiculous on slants and generating yards after catch. He'd look really good catching Brady's pinpoint short/intermediate passes in stride.
  • The Patriots don't need that much from an X receiver: beat press, catch the ball, and not complain about fluctuating targets. If you can threaten deep, it's a bonus. Terry McLaurin isn't exciting, but he does all those things and he's a good special teams player.
  • I find the whole "give every white slot guy to the Patriots" mode of thinking lazy and boring, but dammit if Isabella doesn't look like Welker with his quick feet and Edelman with his willingness to mix it up. He's faster than either, though he's smaller than Edelman
  • It would be really fun to see what McDaniels would do with Jalen Hurd. He's built like a TE, he can play in the slot, and he can line up as a power back. It would be fun to put him on the field with James White and then give a power look with White in the slot and Hurd in the backfield, then go empty the next snap.

My final guesses (I managed to get Wynn and Izzo correct last year, and the wrong UGa RB - Chubb instead of Michel). I can't see beating last year's picks, but here goes...

32: Jerry Tillery, DT
56: Deebo Samuel, WR
64: Kaleb McGary, OT
73: Kahale Warring, TE
97: Jarrett Stidham, QB
101: D'andre Walker, DE/OLB
134: Jimmy Moreland, CB
205: Armon Watts, DT
239: Penny Hart, WR
243: Tre Lamar, LB
246: Shaq Calhoun, OG
252: Kerrith Whyte, RB

I only really watched the receivers this year but I wrote about them for ITP: http://insidethepylon.com/nfl/2019-nfl-draft/2019/04/24/2019-wr-draft-superlatives/

(let me know if there are typos)

My two favorites are Marquise Brown and Hollywood Brown, but those guys have as much value to every other team as the do to the Patriots.
Wow, just read through your write-up on ITP, and I appreciate you so much! I couldn't be more hyped for the draft now. Thank you!

Based on little other than some statistical analysis I've seen as to accuracy and INT rates, I'll guess Pats are on Will Grier in mid-rounds if there.

You have a typo (unless Marquise Brown and Hollywood Brown are two separate prospects!)
