This would also be a great time to test a small-scale tournament. Let guys team up with their buddies, or have some draft format, but the appetite for content is insane right now, and it wouldn't be so challenging logistically.
If the NBA implements “social distancing” the Wizards would have a huge advantage as they’ve been practicing this on the defensive end since October.

I think the NBA could organize some games of HORSE or something. Or other types of skills type games where players could compete with each other while maintaining social distancing. They can't travel, of course, but there must be enough concentrations of players where they could do something like that without travel. It'd be a great way to provide people with some content, and hopefully levity, during a fairly dark time.

Yeah, there must be some workable variation of this.

Virtual HORSE, with each player in a gym, with a big screen so they can talk trash.

Hopefully the NBA won't screw it up, like the 2010 Horse competition, when they were "running out of time" and had to turn it into a three point competition between Rondo and KD. BTW, what's fun about shooting jump shots in a HORSE competition? No more than one type of jump shot at normal distances allowed!

**I'm just going to preface this joke by letting everyone know that yes I am an asshole but for my sanity I need to make this joke lest it explode my insides before I can get it out.**

Okay, here goes.

Ugh, why couldn't it be Hubie?
Little-known but true fact: if you call the coronavirus the wrong name 3 times in a row, you can't get it.

Hubie will live forever.

Sign me up. I want to watch them play in PPE. The merchandising opportunities for team-themed masks and gowns would be huge!

NBA is planning a players-only NBA2K tourney, to be broadcast on ESPN, possibly starting Friday.

I understand the advantages of trying to restart the season in Las Vegas...but on the basis that one positive test means the season is probably done, surely you'd be better off going to an isolated location where there's literally nowhere to go and nothing else to do off-campus (as it were), and make it clear to everyone involved that your responsibility to the league, the public and the world is to do nothing that would get anyone sick. I don't think Las Vegas is that place; could the NBA commandeer a large luxury hotel on an island somewhere with a big gym and weights room, at least one full-size basketball court capable of accommodating satellite television broadcasts, and enough space for players to go outside and exercise but secluded enough that they probably wouldn't come into contact with the general public? (Of course, even then the staff at this mythical hotel wouldn't be able to perfectly quarantine themselves; no plan like this can be foolproof, surely...)

That might be interesting for about 15 seconds
I don't know--hearing NBA guys trash talk each other could be interesting.

As of now, KD, Andre Drummond, Mitchell, and Cousins are confirmed in.

Anyone starving for basketball, NBA TV is showing old All-Star games all day. 1987 is on right now, with Tommy Heinson announcing and rosters that include Bird, Magic, Jordan, Dr. J, Kareem, Moses, Olajuwon, Dominique, Parish, McHale, others. Almost at halftime.

Is there anything more DeMarcus Cousins than watching DeMarcus Cousins playing a video game?

I'm watching 1-2 old games per day. I like mixing in a classic like the Willis Reed G7 or another Finals game from way back with one random game. There was one the other day from the 70's I think it was Cleveland with Clyde Frazier, Campy Russell and Bingo Smith and the Buffalo Braves who had the late Randy Smith and Marvin Barnes. Hoping they throw in a few ABA games soon.

YouTube has a surprising amount of full games up. Bill Simmons has been occasionally tweeting out links to games titled "Best Games You Probably Haven't Seen" with some forgotten games that are interesting to watch back. I watched Suns vs Lakers from the 1990 WCSF; one of the biggest upsets of all-time when it happened. Lakers just had no answer for KJ getting to the basket.

Genuinely curious, would a game with no fans qualify as a public event? It seems sort of private.
It’s a good question. I would tend to agree with you.
There was another tweet by what seems to be a news station indicating that the mayor is pulling any existing and not issuing any new permits for major events through June.
Not sure what, if any, permits are needed to host an NBA or NHL game but, at the very least, they’d need police (to keep “public” out) as well as paramedic presence.

How does everyone feel about finish the season and playoffs at a neutral site (vegas)?

I mean on one hand I'll take anything ovet nothing but...kinda asterisk-y right?

NBA2k players tourney started today on espn and espn2, in theory this should be good, but it's like they've never watched an esports show before, no announcer and the players obviously don't want to or can't trash talk too bad because they're being filmed publicly so so far it's kind of dull.

I miss it so much I don’t even care about the results. I mean, yes, of course I want the Celtics to win and Lakers to lose but, shit, I miss every goddamn part of it.

Also think that getting sports back on in some capacity would be extremely therapeutic for people. I’ve been sitting around counting the days until the NFL draft when I’m aware of like 3 prospects from the whole thing. If they can swing it, I will celebrate the hell out of it, in whatever form it comes.
