I was thinking the same thing. Unless all 58 people were showing symptoms, they should be just self quarantined.Where did the tests come from?

In fairness to Hanks and Rita Wilson, they're in Australia where the government is encouraging anyone showing symptoms to get tested. No idea. But it does seem they are suddenly available in the celebrity sector.
Yes. Meant the entire Jazz staff being immediately tested. In fairness to Hanks and Rita Wilson, they're in Australia where the government is encouraging anyone showing symptoms to get tested.
A medical conference in Boston in late February is said to be the hot spot for Massachusetts infections. Gobert could have picked it up at the practice facility, or somewhere else in Boston. The state of Utah is just experiencing its first cases the last few days .
Probably not because you couldn’t prove it.Are there any legitimate grounds to sue Gobert? Guessing not but he might want to hire a lawyer just in case.
It is really surprising that money receives preferential treatment?I was thinking the same thing. Unless all 58 people were showing symptoms, they should be just self quarantined.
I was thinking about the post you responded to last night and this is where I'm at. What if a player dives into the crowd trying to save a loose ball? It's more likely the elderly have the money to sit courtside, too. What about players who have pregnant wives or girlfriends? Or those that have elderly or immunocompromised family members that they have to be in contact with? It’s a complicated situation and forcing players to come into physical contact with very likely carriers of the virus is a can of worms to say the least.
I'd guess no since he wasn't aware he was positive. The NBA's suspension of the season however does seem to be, at least to some degree, liability relatedAre there any legitimate grounds to sue Gobert? Guessing not but he might want to hire a lawyer just in case.
Everything happening fast but we will know soon how much of an economic impact it will have on the league. Based on the language in the CBA that protects the owners from paying the players due to the cancellation of games outside of the NBA's control. The language reads 1/92.6 of their salary for every game missed which unless I'm missing something means they will be paid about 10% of what they would normally earn for each game. If the owners are saving 90% of payroll how much are ESPN/TNT protected in their contract with the NBA?Even if the season continued i assume they would trim the Playoffs to top 4 teams in each Conference. Maybe top 2.
Celts might be on the outside looking in if thats possible.
But good for the NBA to set monetary issues aside for the common health good.
Yeah, not what I said.So just let all the players give it to each other (and whoever they come into contact with)? They don't know who has it and who doesn't. Heck, Rudy Gobert may not even be NBA's patient zero. If anything,, this strong action is providing the sort of example which our country's leadership is failing at.
Who said anything about forcing players to do anything. I was super clear. What about players who have pregnant wives or girlfriends? Or those that have elderly or immunocompromised family members that they have to be in contact with? It’s a complicated situation and forcing players to come into physical contact with very likely carriers of the virus is a can of worms to say the least.
If you're continuing to have NBA games, you are implicitly forcing players to play.Who said anything about forcing players to do anything. I was super clear.
Functionally, that's what you said. Players were not going to opt out of playing if there were games on the calendar. You know these athletes just as well as any of us. I mean we had several of the league's superstars scoffing at the idea of playing in empty stadiums. And let's say some players do decide to opt out. So we just let the ignorant or proud players give each other and their acquaintances the virus? The proposal just doesn't work.Yeah, not what I said.
So, Rudy Gobert seems like a big fucking asshole, huh?
You can go play with Devin Booker, he has some time to spare in the next 30 days...All jokes aside: this is what video games are for.
I had to quit gaming cold turkey years ago because it was just too addictive for me, but this is exactly the sort of apocalyptic shit required to get me to revisit them for a time. Plus: these days, games are legit spectator sports, too, so if you just want to turn your brain off and watch people who are really good at something compete, you can.
He’ll be 28 in few months, so no, I’m not granting him that read.Or just a dumb kid, might be a more generous read.
Kevin Love, who has been very polarizing in terms of his player value, is a high value human being. I will not debate this.
The 50-plus tests that were run on the Jazz’s traveling party after C Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 were from the state and not a private lab. And the number of tests run on Jazz players represents over half of the state’s daily testing peak capacity testing levels.Where did the tests come from?
Very disappointing that the players are taking the lead on this and not the billionaire owners. Good on Giannis, but this is why I very rarely have any patience for owners during negotiations.
Do we know that owners aren't doing this but just not tweeting it out?Very disappointing that the players are taking the lead on this and not the billionaire owners. Good on Giannis, but this is why I very rarely have any patience for owners during negotiations.
We know a couple are (Cuban and the Warriors I believe), so I imagine it would leak if the rest were doing so.Do we know that owners aren't doing this but just not tweeting it out?
Gilbert is doing this too: https://www.deadlinedetroit.com/articles/24653/ilitch_group_dan_gilbert_s_cavs_to_pay_sports_events_workers_during_coronavirus_suspensionDo we know that owners aren't doing this but just not tweeting it out?
The kid could have given it to Gobert as well. What is bizarre is that 28 members of the Utah traveling party were tested and only Mitchell tested positive. I also don’t understand how these results can legally be released by the teams as it appears to be a HIPAA violation the way the leagues CBA is writtenDId you see a kid in Rhode Island that got a signature from Gobert at the Jazz game has tested positive?
It's possible he got it from someone else, but simplest explanation is that Gobert was contagious in Boston, despite earlier thinking that he was not.

I’m reading that as taking credit for Zion’s generosity without actually committing to anything? What the fuck?View: https://twitter.com/PelicansNBA/status/1238599262255992832
They are in essence saying they are squatters in a building they play in.

I kept reading that paragraph, waiting for the part where they say "Thanks, Zion, but we got this." So they wanted to help but couldn't because they're only tenants, and somehow Zion figured it out for them. What a slimy press release.View: https://twitter.com/PelicansNBA/status/1238599262255992832

Is it a HIPAA violation if they agree to it? also, HIPAA only applies to healthcare professionals. If the players shared their results with management, then that wouldn't be a violation either. The kid could have given it to Gobert as well. Seeing as how everyone seems to have questions, I disagree with those last 2 statements.View: https://twitter.com/PelicansNBA/status/1238599262255992832

No, not if they agree. The team is allowed to publicly divulge a players medical information without their consent if it affects their ability to participate in a game. I remember reading the exact language and thinking that this doesn’t apply since there were no games on the schedule. Of course Mitchell could have agreed to the results being publicly released. Is it a HIPAA violation if they agree to it? also, HIPAA only applies to healthcare professionals. Makes the Sixers’ Horford contract that much more delicious. They have like $147M in contracts for next couple of years. And if the cap shrinks like many expect, it gets that much harder to offload a bad deal. Some salary cap/max discussion:
It is impossible to calculate exactly how much the salary cap could be reduced without knowing if games will be postponed or canceled, but a drop of $10 million to $15 million is not outside the realm of possibility. The minimum teams were required to spend on player payroll, a projection of $98 million, could suddenly become the maximum, bringing down the current projected luxury-tax threshold of $132 million with it. Teams such as the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, who have never paid the luxury tax, could suddenly find themselves facing hefty and unexpected bills.

So the year started out with Daryl Morey costing the league a few $$$, then this. Exactly why you don't go writing bad contracts to "keep salary slots", a classic bull market mistake.
On the flip side, the Brown and Walker contracts become harder to deal with, and Hayward opting in would send us blasting into the tax. (Yes Jaylen is an asset even at a lower cap, but the contract isn’t saving much anymore.)p
