Why is a fist still fourth down? Most people have four fingers. And nobody looks to the ref any more to know what down it is from 200 feet away. There is a score board in like every ten feet of the stadium and in this stadium there is a board bigger than Rhode Island.

There is literally zero danger that anyone is going to be confused whether a ref has three or four fingers extended.

A fist is zero. The fact that it used to be necessary is a bad reason to keep using it. It’s like a rotary phone. Or a folding map.

“Quarterback” doesn’t make sense either, but we’re not renaming the most important position on the field. Sometimes, tradition is retained for its own sake. Also, the traditional reasons for the fist signal are still valid at the lower levels of the sport where players and officials learn their craft.

Way to fuck up a good rant, Mauf.

I’ve never had a fist up my ass nor have I ever faced fourth down, but I imagine neither feels good.

Have seen intentional grounding called for less
Yep. He threw it to nobody and was right in the pocket. Didn't end up mattering but I honestly have no idea how they choose to enforce the rule.

Ref was pointing so maybe receiver (who would have been in the area) stopped his route

Is hands to the face a CTE point of emphasis? Because they need to have an incidental non-penalty variety. It’s turning into a fucking scourge.

Eagles defense is a dumpster fire. As long as the Cowboys don't shoot themselves in the foot with a stupid penalty or something, they should score every possession against these jokers.

Why accept that penalty and take away stats from Dak/Cooper. Is that what happened?
