I'm not sure I've ever started a game thread. But I came across this unbelievably great memory and thought, what a fun way to kick off the game thread for the week.

Dan Connelly's incredible kickoff return against the Packers
I absolutely loved seeing that live, and I love seeing that video even years later.
What I don't love about that play is the egregious block in the back by #34 towards the end of the play on around the 15 yard line. No wonder everyone thinks the Pats cheat! /kidding

That said, I also don't love the Pats chances this weekend. I really hope they prove me wrong.

Yeah I think the refs were like, I’m gonna ignore that because it was such an incredible play. LOL

Yeah, that one ref was literally right in front of the play but he, like everyone on the planet, really wanted Connelly to score. I was so bummed that he didn't. Would have been one of the more memorable plays in NFL history.

IIRC, Connelly had concussion issues a week or two later ... which I always attributed to the celebration

Less than 24 hours to kickoff versus the Packers and this thread is still in single digits. That tells you all you need to know about SoSH's level of expectation and anticipation for this edition of the Pats.

A similar barometer is that last week I watched every second of the game and uttered only a single "Oh ffs...", which came when Agholor fumbled. My wife was stunned at my ability to remain equanimous as the ship went down.

As for tomorrow, I'm expecting something like 31-13 as Hoyer just won't get them into the endzone much. The defense will keep it competitive, with maybe a 14-6 halftime score, before tiring out in the fourth. My over/under for Pats' three-and-outs is 5.

(Still, there's always a part of me that thinks they'll somehow manage to rise up and pull this one out...)

Yeah, this feels like a “limit the number of possessions” type game. Whether Hoyer can keep the chains moving on 3rd down, especially without Meyers, is questionable. On the other hand, Green Bay is not lighting it up offensively, so maybe this is a tighter game than we might expect.

Run the ball down their throats today. Also, it would be nice if Hunter Henry can catch a ball or two today.

Thankfully this starts after the C's preseason opener, conflict averted.

This is as pessimistic I have been about a Patriots game since probably 2000. I honestly can’t see how they can win this game. I also really fucking hate that I have to watch Brian fucking Hoyer “play” QB today.

The only way the Patriots win is if they control the ball for 40+ minutes and run the shit out of the ball. And even then, it may not be enough.

Really not putting much into that game if Mills is being sat. Did we hear he was at risk for not playing? He was limited all week but don’t remember seeing much

Very likely the Patriots will be in dead last in the AFC East in the first week of October for the first time since 2000.

Sports center tonight: Hoyer completes his first pass for 1st down…. And it was all downhill from here….

I don't know how the Pats haven't been called for 2 holds already.
