I can't believe they wasted that timeout.  Oh wait, it's Jim Caldwell.  I totally believe it.

Anyone with a recap of what the hell just happened? I'm not watching but the NFL app is saying a -89 yard pass for a safety?!?

Is that considered a lost fumble if it goes out of the endzone?  It wasn't recovered, so technically not "lost".
The defender batted it out. Should it have been a safety? Or is that a legal bat?

Nailed it. Just use your imagination.

(Johnson fumbled out of the back of the end zone, Seattle ball.)

This rule may change next year.

If the ball goes out of bounds anywhere other than the end zone, the offense gets to keep the ball. It's silly that defense gets it if ball goes out of bounds in the end zone.

Megatron had the ball punched out at the one yard line and the ball bounced to the back of the end zone where it was batted out by a Seattle LB.

Wait, Yahoo seems to not be scoring that as a lost fumble.  Is that because nobody picked it up?  That seems crazy to me.

edit: nevermind, they finally fixed it

It should change. Really makes no sense.

This is spot on. It's been a bad rule forever. It's about time that it's changed.

Did Tate and Wilson hug it out?

Wilson moved way up as a result of Tate sleeping with his wife.  That was very likely a thank you hug

I don't really have a problem with that rule. Higher stakes in the redzone. Plus out of bounds in the endzone is generally a fumble forward -  as opposed to a fumble on either side of the field of play. A fumble forward in those situations is going to get recovered by some team.

The difference is that it was not a loose ball.
Edit. You are talking about Wright. Never mind.

I love how the rulebook states it's illegal to "bat" a football from an opponent's hand. That's how half the fumbles are caused.

I think the "or in any direction in either end zone" is pretty clear.

Of course, no one has mentioned it on the broadcast or postgame to this point.

It may nary get a mention in a Florio post, because Lions.

I remember the Dolphins got called for illegal batting on a Brady strip sack fumble last year in Foxboro that awarded the ball back to the Pats.

Did Detroit get hosed?
