Probably not worth its own thread, but caught a chunk of the Westwood One radio broadcast of the SNF game. Jason Taylor was really good on color, and worked nicely with the PBP guy.

Yeah, good move 35 trying to shield Peters who's sitting down during the anthem, especially in light of the events of yesterday.

There's a time and a place and this isn't it.

If you're not going to stand for the Anthem, is it too much to ask to take a knee? Marcus Peters sitting on his ass looking completely disinterested is about as tone deaf to the situation as one can get. And I noticed that a bit yesterday. It's like these guys know folks are pissed about them not standing, and are just trying to ratchet it up even further. Does their "cause" get more attention by sitting there like you're hanging out in a Laz-E-Boy versus kneeling?

FTR, I don't really care one way or the other if guys stand or not. I just think there are much better ways to bring attention to whatever it is they are fighting for.

I hope the Redskins beat these assholes 105-0 tonight.

Not likely, but there it is.

Protesting cops getting away with murdering black people. It's pretty easy to see why some black people have an issue with that. I have a harder time trying to figure out why so many white people don't.

edit: Just kidding. I know exactly why so many white people don't.

There's another thread in V&N to talk about the anthem and the players' protests and I don't want to de-rail this one too much. But I think it says a lot about how frustrated these guys are with the situation that this is continuing. Personally I'm glad to see it. It makes people upset and uncomfortable. That's good.

Washington's defense will not be as easy pickings as NE's

Wait, Marcus Peters said that's what he is protesting? I missed that. I thought it was because he was black?

“I was just stating how I’m black, and I love being black, (and) I’m supporting Colin in what he’s doing as far as raising awareness with the justice system,” Peters said last September. “But I didn’t mean anything (bad) by it.”

I'll give him credit though. At least, he stopped riding the stationary bike and doing exercises during the anthem. I guess the protest changes from the preseason to the regular season.

It's right in his quote: "I’m supporting Colin in what he’s doing as far as raising awareness with the justice system"

What strikes you as ambiguous about "I’m supporting Colin in what he’s doing as far as raising awareness with the justice system"? Serious question.

For a guy who says he doesn't care whether they stand or kneel, it sure seems like you care. And the quote perfectly articulates why Peters is protesting.

Is there a reason you'd go for it on 4th and 1 from the 29 but not 4th and 1 from the 1? Was Gruden all that concerned with his kicker's ability to hit a 46 yard FG?

I’m trying to think of an example of situation where kicking a FG on 4th and 1 from the 1 is a good idea.

Still thinking.

I think there are 4 things at play:
--- concern about the emotional impact (on both sides) of the goal line stuff
--- Much more field to work with from further out. The defense can't completely sell out on one play or they risk a huge play, making conversions theoretically easier
--- lower probability of a block/return from closer in
--- general stupidity.

Nothing ambiguous at all, if you believe the entire "justice system" boils down to "cops murdering black people."

You're right. A white guy would have been far more eloquent and nuanced with his explanation. You know, "well-spoken".

Washington went from rock bottom defense last year to what you see tonight and saw against Oakland last week. New D.C., new d-line coach, DJ Swearinger and Zach Brown via FA

I have this weird feeling that Alex Smith will be QBing Washington next year while it looks for its Pat Mahomes.
