Man. Take this guy out for the night and hope he's ready for next week? This is painful as a neutral observer.
Doesn’t seem like the kind of thing where he’s risking further injury by playing. If he has a cracked rib now, he’ll still have a cracked rib later; it will just hurt a lot more.

Are you seriously advocating for him to play through a cracked rib? There is a reason you don’t play with them usually.

He clearly was in pain, got hit again and had no idea what he was doing on that last series

Recently signed K plays a role there — gotta believe they run on 3rd down if Butker is healthy.

He didn’t look good. Perhaps they would’ve been better off with Daniel at QB. But it doesn’t seem intuitively like a case where he’d be risking further injury by playing.

Serious backdoor cover possibilities here.

What head coach would watch their MVP/franchise QB be that much pain just warming up, and send him on the field? I don’t care if Herbert wants to play - you are down by 10 in the 2nd game. This is not a must win game

One - we dont know exactly what it is
Two - depending on the rib injury it could get further displaced and pierce or damage so important underlying thinga

Chargers got the muff, but no one was close to the loose ball.

That was quite a stretch of the forward progress rule, being he was falling sideways out of bounds.
It didn’t matter, but it looked like he went out of bounds laterally. Not sure what the rule is in that case.
