Serious question...

Are the Jets dark horse Super Bowl contenders?

I think they could beat Denver, and they always give the Pats a tough game. Pittsburgh would probably destroy them, but Pittsburgh often has a tough time against AFCN teams in the postseason.

Obviously I'm not saying they're favorites, but behind the Pats, Broncos (and this is questionable), and Pittsburgh, who else in the AFC is clearly better?

The team that just gave up 31 points to the Bills and has the oldest roster in the league?

Well the Bengals just beat them on their home field so I think that makes them better but they might be in the 5-7 scrum with KC and the AFC South champ.

I think they're the Pats' toughest competition in the AFCE such as it is. Beyond that, Fitzy is their QB and he loves the turnover, so no, they are not SB contenders.

Check the next 4 games on their schedule-@Chiefs, Seahawks, @Steelers, @Cardinals.

They will be hard-pressed to come out of their first 6 games with 3 wins. That means they'll need to win on the road in places other than Buffalo in the playoffs if they make it. If they come out of the first 6 games at 4-2, they're legit.

They won't. They still have Fitzpatrick.

for a while this was the perfect game. Revis burned. Rex humiliated. The only bad side is despite the close score against a talented but poorly coached team, the Jets still looked damn good. Of course, no pass rush on a guy like Fitz can make him -- or anyone -- look good.

Their secondary has looked dreadful two games in a row, Brady might go for 500 on them.

Does Rex get another HC job after he goes 6-10 this year and Buffalo cans him? Demotion to a DC spot somewhere?

For comedy's sake, I hope he stays in the NFL in some capacity.
Is he another Jeff Fisher?

The commentariat are so butt hurt when they have to acknowledge the shortcomings of both. It's embarrassing; the talking heads love them.

And make no mistake -- Rex absolutely owns the bills' dreadful fall on defense.

I think he ends up sitting at a desk yucking it up with JB, Boomer, Cowher and whoever. Maybe his ego won't let him, and I guess some other team will be stupid enough to throw some money at him. But I would imagine he'll need at least a year off.

I think the Jets are absolutely dark horse SB contenders. If they can navigate the next 5 weeks at like 2-3 or 3-2 theyll have a chance to finish w/ 9 or 10 wins. And 3-2 in their next 5 absolutely not outside the realm of possibility. Didn't San Diego just go in to KC and take the Chiefs to OT? Didn't the Garopollo and Gronk-less Pats just win @ Arizona? And the Ravens, who scored 13 points on the Bills 5 days ago, are suddenly too tough to handle at home? Can you think of much bigger mismatches in the entire league than the Seahawks sieve of an offensive line against Wilkerson, Richardson, and Williams?

They didn't "give up 31 points last night". 7 came on a fumble 6 and 7 came in run out the clock mode where they clearly were allowing things to happen in front of them to run out the clock. Revis got torched for a touchdown, and there was a completely busted coverage for another after they allowed Tyrod to escape the pocket. Those last two TDs are obviously problematic, but I would hardly say that their defense is terrible.

They have one of the best receiving cores in the league, they can absolutely win in the trenches on defense, and they've shown the ability to run the ball somewhat capably through two games. They need to shore up the play in the secondary, I don't think its outside the realm of possibility that they do that. Their main issue remains that they have a volatile option at quarterback who will probably never look as good the rest of the season as he did last night. That will probably do them in in the long run. But completely overlooking them is foolish. I'd say they're right ahead of Oakland as the 5th best team in the conference right now, and not far behind Denver and Cincinnati.

Neither of those are points you should make if you're arguing that the defense isn't at fault for them.

That is NOT to say that the Jets defense is bad or anything close to it. It's just a pet peeve for me to hear "The defense wasn't bad--outside of the time the DB got used like a cheap hooker and the time they completely fucked up the coverage."

If the Jets are 3-3 a month from now, then yes, they're a dark-horse contender. But I think the smart money is against them doing that.

They're allowing more than 10 yards per passing attempt through their first two games, and Revis looks cooked -- there's no reason to believe this pass defense is going to be even average, much less elite. And the Jets' offense isn't going to march the ball up and down the field against KC, Seattle or Arizona the way it did against Cincinnati or (especially) Buffalo.

The Jets will rightly be underdogs in each of their next four games. They will likely find a way to win one of those four, but 2-2 is unlikely.

The road gets much easier after that, but it's hard to see them recovering from a 2-4 start to be more than a Wild Card team, and I don't see them as likely to win three playoff games on the road.

Fair. Revis getting carpetbombed like that is definitely problematic. I do think solving an issue like that is somewhat easier than fixing a line that cannot hold up against the run or rush the passer. I also don't think Revis turned into dogshit overnight, but I guess that's more of an opinion than something I can prove.

I don't feel like coverage breakdowns of that magnitude are common, but that's also more anecdotal than statistically supported.

I'm on mobile, but I'm not seeing it there.

Edit: Sorry, should probably take this elsewhere. Oddly I'm seeing it on the actual site but not on the app.
The app has been garbage for me since the forum upgrade, I just browser to the site and use the mobile theme and it's great. GIFs work, embedded tweets work, etc.

Yeah, Will Fuller is the real deal. Not excited to figure out how we're going to deal with him and Hopkins next week.

Interesting fumble/no catch call in Chiefs vs Houston. Receiver didn't hold on to ball while going to the ground. Looked like he completed a football move though.

They need to change it to a rule that makes intuitive sense.

I'm watching red zone and there is just an amazing amount of horrible football being played across the league.

Giants and Saints two good passing teams with bad defenses. Only score in this game is a return.

Glad I resisted the temptation to pick up Mariota for my fantasy team this week. Not sure if it's coaching, or if he just isn't good at football.
Well, he just got baited into an INT by one of the best safeties in the league, so it may not be either. Or both.
