The NFL had it out for the Patriots after stupid Deflategate. They would go nuclear after a Raiders-Chargers kneel off on Sunday Night Football.

How much longer can Shanahan ride the "designs pretty offense" train? He's been pretty bad as a head coach.

Just thinking about yesterday's broadcasts, and it's occurred to me that ESPN really is going out of its way not to use Sean McDonough on any NFL games - presumably out of fear that the old MNF play-by-play guy would clearly outshine the new MNF play-by-play guy. I mean, I like Chris Fowler a lot, but he's the college guy, and nobody is going to perceive him as a threat to Steve Levy.

McDonough bad mouthed the slate of games ESPN was assigned by the NFL. Could be the NFL, a league well established for carrying a grudge over slights, isn’t interested in seeing him call their games again.

They lost a competitive Super Bowl vs the Chiefs two years ago.
I get it, but they have had a ton of talent and underperformed since, and that season felt super fluky, and I always wonder about coaches who bang out one big year then fall off. Matt Nagy went 12-4 the year before Shanahan's good year, he's now deservedly getting fired, and was on the hot seat last year too. Not saying he should be fired, but there is basically no talk of him being on the hotseat, which is weird for a team that has badly regressed, and where he has made some very unusual decisions.

He also criticized the officials.

I mean they replaced him with carnival barkers, and automaton Pom Pom wavers, Tessitore and Levy, that tells you all you need to know about what they’re looking for.

All the time missed by key guys this year in SF might explain that.

He got a contract extension after the Super Bowl thru 2025 season. He’s going to need to do more losing, and fail at developing Lance, before him being fired becomes a real thing. If they fired him now, Denver would offer him their job immediately.

Yeah, I don’t get them not at least running another 40 seconds off the clock there.
It was actually the right call. Since a tie doesn’t help you if you miss the kick it at least gives you some clock to get ball back one last time. Run it down and you are locked into kick result.

That probably should have been a penalty when the Rams' defender smacked Jimmy G in the head. But his pass was behind Kittle.
No sympathy for the Niners. Yeah, that should’ve been called, but you’re never going to get every bailout call you should get. It’s on JG for throwing into triple-coverage.

I love having so many games in the late window
They need to do more of this during the regular season and get rid of TNF (they won’t)

Bills D is great today. Their offense sucks but it’s about time for them to score again.
