yeah LV was going to try to score either way, so little downside and they'd much rather get the Bengals than the Chiefs

Here
I don’t think the time out mattered.

If the Chargers got a stop on third down at the 40 the Raiders let the clock run.
Yeah, but they might have thought San Diego would take another timeout on a stop to try a punt block. And instead of letting the clock run at the end they kicked in retaliation.

The Chargers called a TO with 2-3 left in the clock to get a look at the formation, why is Collinsworth acting like they called it to save time?
agreed, and it did not really change anything..Raiders could still have taken a knee...the problem was the run that got them in FG range

So very disappointing. Chargers fucked it up with the TO. Raiders we’re down with the tie until then.
The raiders called the same play after the timout they would have called before it. And if it had the same result they still would have kicked.

I was rooting for a FG block and return for TD. I get it from the Raiders POV to avoid KC but man I don’t know if I could risk 100% chance at the playoffs for it.

Nah, they were gonna kick a FG if they could. Raiders wanted to win pretty badly, getting the Bengals instead of the Chiefs is pretty big

You think they kicked a field goal (which had almost no risk and fairly high reward) because the chargers took a timeout? Insanity.

You’re almost certainly right, just annoyed that the more fun outcome that would have screwed the Steelers didn’t happen. Oh well.

I mean, what was the point of the timeout?
Preview the LV formation/may not have liked what they saw. That was a huge play, difference between like a 55-57 yarder (and maybe a punt) and a 45-47 yarder.

It didn’t matter in terms of the Raiders trying to convert that third down or not, and it made no meaningful difference in terms of the game clock.

Collinsworth wringing his hands about ‘you just gotta wonder if that made Bisaccia change his approach’ is typical latter day Collinsworth doing Collinsworth things like instigate unfalsifiable theories.

The Chargers should have called both time outs I thought to basically so go ahead and kneel we can’t stop it.

But the biggest fail was not stopping the third down run and letting them get in FG range.

They were in FG range, anyway. He crushed that and down the middle.

Gotta wonder if getting up to the #5 seed made a difference there.
I also think that the Raiders have had a huge chip on their shoulders since the Gruden disaster, they like their interim coach, and, yes, playing the Bengals instead of the Chiefs was a motivator
