Only one playoff berth still on the line in each conference.

New England is locked in as AFC #1, but all other seeds are still up for grabs.  (While it has been reported that they're locked into the #4, Indy can still wind up with the #3 - as noted in another thread - if they win and the Steelers and Bengals tie.)

11 of the 16 games on Sunday - including all games from 4:25 on - have playoff implications.

*    *    *    *

On to the slate:

Buffalo @ New England - 1:00 ET
New Orleans @ Tampa Bay - 1:00 ET
San Diego @ Kansas City - 1:00 ET

Philadelphia @ NY Giants - 1:00 ET
Cleveland @ Baltimore - 1:00 ET
Dallas @ Washington - 1:00 ET
Jacksonville @ Houston - 1:00 ET

Gus Johnson is working this week's Seattle/St. Louis game.  Could you imagine his call of Beast Quake 2.0?

Carrying a handful of relevant posts over from the Week 16 thread:

Kind of interesting, the NFL has waived the 'no game on the other network opposite a home game in a local market' rule for Week 17, meaning that Fox will have a game in the Boston area at 1 PM.

i think that happens every year for week 17. it's part of the usual deal.

Smart idea by the NFL. I have Red Zone now, but I always hated being held hostage by meaningless week 17 Patriots home games.

So which game looks to be the most shit-sandwichest of the 5 non-playoff-implication games, for the impartial observer?  I think I would vote for Bears/Vikings as neither team has anything particularly interesting.  Saints/Bucs also looks pretty ugly.

On the flip side, I would say that the Cinci/Pitt and the Packers/Lions games look to be the juiciest, again for the impartial observer.

Saints-Bucs gets my vote for suckiest game of the week. At least in the Bears-Vikings game,  you could watch Bridgewater and try to get a read on his progress. Normally I would say Jets-Dolphins would suck in terms of actual football playing content, but I will be tuning in to hopefully see the smirk on Rex's face as he walks off the field for the final time.

Bridgewater and Clausen both.

Clausen looked pretty good last week despite the loss. Detroit's got a fairly good defense and he was able to move the chains against them. It wasn't an MVP level performance but if the guy can do that or improve he'll at least stick on a roster for a while. If Clausen wins and plays well this week it will stoke the fires of the Bears QB controversy.

Edit: strike that, Clausen is out and Cutler is in. Clausen played ok in his debut except for that concussion- I wouldn't be surprised if it happened on the late running play where he decided to lower his shoulder instead of sliding.

Don't think Clausen is playing this week. Suffered a concussion against the Lions.

Indeed Clausen got the concussion on the helmet to helmet from Ansah as he started to slide.

This is why the NFL has its rules to protect QBs.

I love how Clausen gets up, runs his mouth (as well he should), and then does the whole "hold me back" routine so he didn't get his ass kicked by Ansah.

It's the same thing in other years.  Believe me.  The double-game, double-network thing isn't uncommon.
I think the "all markets" part is what's new.

From the release linked above:

"For the first time, all markets will see four Sunday afternoon games (two on CBS and two on FOX) plus the NBC Sunday night game with the NFL’s Week 17 double doubleheader schedule, which was introduced in 2006."

I just remember in 506's explanation of scheduling/TV rules, when I first read them a few years ago, they were clear that the networks rotate which one gets a doubleheader, week after week, *except* week 17 when they both have a doubleheader. not sure why that would only be true in some markets, but I certainly don't remember an exception. regardless, it's moot - I'm just saying that even if there's been a change, it's not a very big one.

Goodell's xmas present to America, I suppose.

That hit is terrifying. I'm surprised he so much as got up much less talked trash. What a bunch of miserable punks that Lions team is.

Yeah, the policy is definitely new this year.  Even looking at last year's Week 17 game thread, it's clear that things were different then.

-So both cbs and fox get 2 games? Is that a week 17 thing?

-Yeah, that's a Week 17 thing.

-Unless you live in Mpls/St. Paul. WTF.

-As long as the local team sells out, there can't be another game at the same time on the other network.

-How come Boston doesn't get a Fox Late game (i.e. GB-CHI), but Buffalo does?  (and SD doesn't, but KC, DEN and OAK areas all do get it?)

-Can't show a game in market that conflicts with a home game in that market.

-NY and SF/OAK are exceptions this week because both local teams are playing at the same time. With the local teams playing head to head both FOX and CBS are allowed to show a second game.

Not just Murray. All linemen - offensive and defensive - will have to protect against being stomped on. I'm sure we'll see one or two cheap shots on Romo's back, too.

Still can't believe Raiola only got a one game suspension.

Andy Reid will still figure out a way to not get Jamaal Charles the ball. But in all seriousness, that's a huge boost to the anti-Balt crowd. Smith has his warts but Chase Daniel is a complete unknown.
Isn't this a huge boost to Baltimore?

Kinda ironic that this is Chase Daniels' 2nd career start. His first career start came in similar circumstances last year: week 17 against the Chargers.  Daniels went 21-of-30 passing (70 percent) for 200 yards and one touchdown pass in the 27-24 loss to San Diego.

So why are the Eagles starting Sanchez again?  Wouldn't you want to give Barkley at least one shot?  What do you have to lose?

Tony Romo may end the season with a 115+ QB Rating.  One of the most underrated great seasons ever.

He has shot at MVP--it's not that underrated.

DeMarco Murray still playing, after breaking Dallas single season record.
