Agreed. I'm just seeing a disproportionate amount of hate spewed at Mac, when the Cam Newton season telegraphed how the whole franchise seemed to be breaking down without the Brady duct tape.
I'm not saying Mac is more of the problem than the OL, but in this analogy he's on the phone with customers drunk after a fight with his ex wife about child support

Last year was sweet IMO.
It ended about as poorly as any season can end - but the ride was super fun and inspiring.
Belichick will never bottom out. We wasted our one chance at a legit draft pick by signing Newton. Then spent a fortune on really mediocre talent outside of Judon, all to be mediocre and scrape out some wins. It’s going to keep being like this.
At least Thornton had some nice catches but he’ll never max out if the QB refuses to ever hit him in stride. Hope we spend the rest of the season trying to get him going and maybe go easy on getting Rham smashed all night on checkdowns since the season is lost anyway.

Or it just highlights how QB play is disproportionately tied to team success in the modern NFL.
Ok, let’s pretend like those 2 plays where not his fault in any way and he played them perfectly. What has he done to inspire any confidence that he can be the guy that makes winning plays moving forward? He he never made a game winning drive when it actually counts.

The o line was terrible and most damning it looked like they had quit down the stretch as Mac scrambled they just stood instead of hitting someone cutting back.
Mac could have aimed better and looked to get people killed down the stretch particularly but this seemed broken higher up.

I mean, there's plenty of bad play to go around -- seems like the OL-breakdown and QB-pressure plays are a weird hill to die on when the mound of garbage Mac throws is much taller.

I want a mobile QB in there too, being able to escape, and being a threat for designed runs helps the Line a lot.
Fwiw, Thuney and Mason have combined to allow 1 sack this year, and have committed just 4 penalties. Any discussion of this teams flaws has to look at the post Brady TB SB winning spending spree and recognize how crappy a lot of the decisions then and since were.
I only saw 4 TERRIBLE throws - but it is crazy that the best I can say on a final drive is I think you overestimated the TERRIBLE throws by 2. Sad times.
Eh, if that's the case why even try. Just go 0-17 and try to get the top QB (which will maybe have a 50/50 chance of even being a top 10 QB). I think there is still a path to have a top 10-15 QB and win, but the Pats are still building the surrounding cast like the best QB of all time is on their side.

No it was still shitty -- and they held Josh Allen to a 2.5 YPA. The total yardage is driven by having a shitton of opportunities (37 carries for 132 yards isn't anything special).
At least fire the 70-year-old GM. Keep the 70-year-old coach if you want, but this team just doens't have a lot of talent on it.
The defense wasn’t looking great on the 15 play 94 yard 9 minute TD drive in the 3rd quarter.
Huh, the WRs were really good this game, they got open, they made bunch of tough catches on bad throws. It's not their fault that every play either the line shit the bed or Mac had his feet pointed up his own ass and threw the ball high, wide, or way behind them.
Edit- Thornton, Agholor and Parker all had some really great bailout catches.

Because no one knows how QBs translate to the NFL? A top pick doesn't assure a top QB. Jalen Hurts was a 2nd round pick.
I think the organizational philosophy of trying to win without good players has backfired. Time to tear it up and start over.

This. I don’t see a lot wrong with the head coach. But we’re 5ish years of having below league median talent. For awhile we could excuse it away with not great draft picks because of winning seasons. But we’re past that.
