Aaron Rodgers and the Pack made things a little interesting at Gillette into the 2nd half, but a timely turnover, a couple of big plays, and a solid effort by the defense turned a 17 - 17 third quarter tie into a 31 - 17 Pats win. The Patriots now sit at 7-2 behind only the Chiefs in the AFC. All that stands between them and a much-needed bye week are Mike Vrabel's Titans.

The Titans sit at 4-4 and look like a thoroughly mediocre to bad NFL team through 8 weeks. Just looking at Football Outsiders, if you put any faith in their black box (YMMV), the Titans are 22nd in total DVOA. According to DVOA the Titans don't seem to do anything particularly well (22nd ranked offense, 26th ranked defense, 20th ranked special teams). They are coming off of a road win in Dallas where to my eye they looked pretty good after a shaky fumble-filled first quarter, but if the Pats are one of the elite teams in the league this is a game they should win.

It is a road game in the NFL and the Pats haven't exactly looked sharp this season away from Gillette, but this is yet another must-win game if the Pats have any hope of catching the Chiefs for the #1 seed in the AFC. Fuck Eddie George and fuck the Titans. Win this game.

"Celebrating What Is" Fact of the Day: The Pats win last week was their sixth in a row. Since 2001 the Pats have had at least a 6 game regular season winning streak in 12 out of 18 seasons, including 5 straight dating back to 2014. In fact from 2014 through 2017 the Pats have had at least a 7 game winning streak in every season, which they could match with a win on Sunday in Tennessee.

This week's StoryLine! is going to be all about Malcolm Butler. Based on early returns on both sides -- i.e. how MB is doing in Tenn, and how the Pats are doing without him -- the sense is that the Pats made the right decision. But that decision will only be more fodder to dredge up the "If Butler was this bad, why did BB even dress him in the SuperBowl?"
I'm bored already just thinking about it.
The more pertinent and of-the-moment discussion should be about the Patriot injury list. With the bye a week away, will Michel, Gronk, etc remain inactive to give two more weeks to rest? Does Duke Dawson get activated this week?

Rest Gronk. No doubt. I’d rest Sony too but I could see him playing. Yes on Dawson.

Unless you live in the Eugene, OR area you are pretty much hosed for Pats viewing if you live west(ish) of the Mississippi River

edit - Pats game will be shown in the red regions

Oregon Duck Mariota fandom. Not sure why it doesn't extend to Portland. Well it's been a good run, first Sunday morning at the bar and it's already November

See, I was going to guess it was the Russ Francis fan club.

I'll be having a breakfast burrito and a Bloody Mary at the sports bar in Los Feliz...

Edit: Who'm I kidding, I hate Bloody Marys. It'll be a beer.

Normally being in Eugene just gets me the Raiders, the Titans, and the Seahawks, and it almost always blows (ok, sometimes the Seahawks games are good). The schedule makers just need to make sure the Pats play these three teams more.

Focus on stopping the run and limiting Mariotta's QB scrambles/runs. Make him beat you with his arm. That would be my defensive game plan, and I believe that is what the Pats did last time they played.

FOXBORO — The Patriots appear to be taking the long view with Rob Gronkowski. Poised for another deep playoff run, the Pats know their chances in January are best when their game-changing tight end is at full strength. Or at least close to it. Listed as questionable with back and ankle injuries, Gronkowski would not commit to playing tomorrow in Tennessee, calling it a “coach’s decision.”

However, a source indicated that Gronkowski is not expected to suit up against the Titans. The Pats seem to be hoping that some rest in November will allow Gronkowski to recapture his top form down the stretch.

We potentially don’t need him until a week after the bye week as we play the J-E-T-S after the bye. That would give him until December 2 against Minnesota. Then at Miami...always a tough game then the very important at Pittsburg game.

And Rapsheet said Gordon was being sat a quarter, so...

Edit - oh, Reiss said Gronk unlikely, too. Gives more credence.

Where did you see this? Mike Reiss did not say this.
He said the expectation has been he won’t play right in that Tweet.

For clarification, I was questioning Rapsheet’s credibility after the Gordon report and my Reiss reference was in regards to Gronk, not Gordon. I can see how that is confusing.

I’m here representing sosh! Not sure if it will show the same on tv, but it literally looks like a home game. More surprising to see Titans fans than Patriots fans walk by

If Hollister is active and they are still bringing in Fleener tomorrow, that makes me sad.
