Trying to come up with something that sounds like “Breakfast With Gaza” to commemorate Wilf’s (hopefully) second and final Covid absence.

Palace vs. Magpies at Selhurst on Friday to start the week.

RELEASE THE SHELVEY
Two things:

1) Nothing personal, and I’m sorry if anyone here has the name, but “Jonjo” might be the last name I would ever give to a child of mine, should I have had one. What is that?

2) Does anyone else think of Charlie Runkle every time they see Shelvey?

I have an entirely irrational feeling that Benteke is going to score the winning goal.

Edit: Ugh - closer than I honestly expected just there.

Matip out of the squad for rest after playing two in a row. Not exactly a horse.

This is make or break for me for Minamino. I think he’s a sunk cost. Surprise me.

I think the high line needs to play, uh, less high. Alisson is going to put more miles on the clock than a midfielder.

I'd assumed with Minamino in the team, they'd revert to the 4-2-3-1, but it seems he's moved into the role Jones was occupying as the right-sided central midfielder... I don't know if he has the positional awareness for it, Wijnaldum especially is looking overrun in midfield trying to help on that side. Also Gini's 3rd match in less than a week so there's that

And now Neco WIlliams gives away a pen

Liverpool look gassed.

Nico Williams is going to cost Liverpool the game. The right side of the defense looks awful. Phillips can be serviceable with an experienced guy alongside, but Fabinho doesn’t exactly fit the bill.

I’d pull Nico off, push Milner back, and put a warm body (Henderson?) into midfield.

For the billionth time, the technology is not capable of making that decision. Framerate does not allow for fractional calls like this. Fuck this sport.

I'm just relieved they overturned it with him actually being offside... unlike Firmino at Villa last year, Mane / Van Dijk at Everton, etc

Here’s the thing... Are you sure? Was the ball off the foot of the passer? How do you know?

A 40 mph pass travels at 58 feet per second. The camera is at 24 frames per second. That’s two feet of error. There’s no possible way to be sure he was off. Those goals must stand.

In this case, I thought it looked marginally off live, and Salah's foot was the furthest point forward on the freeze frame they chose, so I wasn't expecting it to stand... matter of expectations with this implementation of VAR I guess.

The fact that they determine these without a camera actually on the line / perpendicular to the last defender is the wildest part to me. In the absence of that, I agree a margin of error has to be considered with deference to the original call by the linesperson

Rough for Brighton if Bissouma can't continue, he's been their MotM most matches I've seen and no different today

Henderson for Minamino at half may end up being the most obvious substitution of Klopp's reign

Yep, Cricket has it right, if it’s with the margin of error then the original call stands.

I agree. Live he looked off. The freeze frame is not a legitimate methodology and the shit needs to stop.

Henderson
Lost the rest of your quote, but Williams needs to come off, too.

Minamino is a fucking lost cause. He’s clueless on the pitch, he can’t figure out the system, his passing is garbage, and his shot is apparently limp, too.

So it looks like loosing three out of four defenders and starting an entire midfield of guys off the bench is what it takes to make Liverpool look like any other team.
Lets hope for some Salah or Jota magic second half.

Henderson is what they need. He should be rested, he’s going to nip at the heels of underperformers, and he’s going to hit a Gerrard Hollywood ball over the top to somebody for a goal.

After the match there will be Minamino bits in his stool.

Fabinho looking shaky the past few minutes. Bad challenge on Welbeck, awful giveaway at midfield... Deep breath, Best Center Back Available.
