When did it become a thing for refs to announce every single thing they do is “by rule”? Has there been some confusion where their authority comes from?

Just say “the ball will be placed on the 50.”
Divine right of referees.

Drew Brees last 6+ quarters have been ass. I'm fully on the Max Kellerman cliff argument for Brees.
Come on.

In the playoff loss he was 26/40, 250 yards, 2/1 and tonight he's like 29/38, 335 yards, 2/1

That's not ass.

It took them almost the entire second half to realize the refs screwed up the clock on that replay?

LOL, the NFL admits their error publicly once the Saints put the game away. If Houston was on their way to winning this one, no chance that happens during the broadcast.

This is a greatly entertaining game and by week 1 standards off the charts.

Holy moly

Edit* - that was regarding only two plays to score a td. But then applies to the missed kick. And the penalty...what next lol

Well now.

How do the Saints feel about that 15 seconds now?

I’m always impressed when people consistently lament how poor Wilson and Rodgers’ offensive line is, when playing outside the pocket and getting chased by defensive players is a key part of their playing style.
In the last 7 years, Seattle's running game has been ranked in the top 4 in the NFL 5 times. Yeah, their offensive line blows. People just don't understand football. They just read a box score, see the number of sacks and assume the offensive line sucks. Some guys hold the ball too long because it's what they do, some guys do it because their receivers suck, and some because their offensive lines actually suck.

It's unconscionable to let two receivers (including arguably the best receiver in football) get behind you on back to back plays in that situation. The Saints will never, ever have a good defensive backfield. It's been their achilles heel for about 10 years.

And he missed the extra point and they get another life. My God New Orleans.
