So long to "Mut and Merloni." Hello to "Middays with MFB."

WEEI 93.7 and its parent company Entercom will announce changes to its midday program Monday.

Lou Merloni, the Framingham native and former Red Sox infielder, will remain as a host of the program. He will be joined by two new daily co-hosts on the 10 a.m.-2 p.m. program: former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria and Tim Benz, a New England native who is currently a host on 970 ESPN Pittsburgh and the Clear Channel Pittsburgh sports director.

Benz will join the program -- titled "Middays with MFB'' -- sometime later in the month after the Penguins complete their Stanley Cup playoff series with the Rangers.

Mike Mutnansky, who has been paired with Merloni on the WEEI midday show since February 2011, is no longer part of the program. He will shift to another role at Entercom over the next few weeks.

Not sure what the new show will sound like or how Lou will interact with the rotating team, but Mutnansky was just brutal to listen to. He tried way too hard to be a sports talkshow guy and provoke issues or discussion. His radio personality just seemed forced and therefore not real.

Any lineup change that doesn't bring the incandescent talent of Christian Arcand into a major role is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Completely agree. Arcand is a first rate talent - exactly the kind of guy who would appeal to that coveted 20 whatever to the 40 whatever demographic. Arcand is wasted on New Hampshire the way public education is wasted on Yankee fans.

I'm not seeing anything about a rotating team, just that Fauria and Benz are going to replace Mut.

Seems like the big thing with the Entercom execs these days is three voices per show.  First Minihane was added to D&C, then they've been consistently rotating the third chair since making Dale & Holley permanent (rarely if ever is it a two-man show).  Now they're pushing Mut out to add two hosts to the mid-day.

Mut isn't being let go...does that mean he is going to assume the role Dale Arnold had after he was forced out of the midday slot?  Are we looking at Mut as lead fill-in option?  Or maybe he gets thrown into the evening show with Mikey and Ryder so it has three voices as well (and mercifully is pre-empted 3-4 nights a week by the Red Sox)?

Is this show really going to be called "Middays with MFB?"  That's a horrible name.  Can WEEI do anything right?

"Our $100,000 focus group tells us this is a terrific name!"

I bet the final segment of today's show will be bittersweet with Mut saying goodbye...

EEI would've been better keeping Dale and pairing him with Merloni...they would have one show doing well the past 3 years...

I don't know if he was kidding or not, but Mutt just said that Dale hates his guts and ignores him in the hallways at work. Weird.

That's not new.

Suppsedly, Mut is on for at least the rest of this week. The WEEI announcement is a totally half-baked concoction.

So Dale hates with a passion Mutt and Wallach? Anyone else?

This has to be the worst show name I've heard in a long time. Middays with MFB? Mother fuckin' bitches, Yo!

I do like Fauria though from what limited I've heard.

John Ryder@johndryder
I have enjoyed my 16 years at @WEEI Thanks for tuning in and listening. I'm sure I will talk to you somewhere in the future. Cheers !

Apparently John Ryder is out too.  I think that's too bad - I liked Ryder's interviewing style on the pre game, and I thought he did a good job playing the straight man with Adams on the evening show.  Perhaps Mutnansky is headed for the evening show?  Chad Finn also just tweeted that he has no idea what happened with Ryder.  Will be interesting to hear what's up there.
