The step down from Queiroz to Wilmots is indescribable. A team that went toe-to-toe with Portugal and Spain in last WC's group stages can't even beat Bahrain away and were set up to get destroyed in Baghdad. Iran need to win out in their qualifiers, with help by way of a draw between Bahrain / Iraq tomorrow, to even make it to this sham of a competition.

Maybe IR can stop paying Wilmots so he'll quit by March.

EPL players will be back just in time to watch the holiday congestion from the bench. Excellent.
It’ll be interesting to see how sides with more intact rosters can take advantage. City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus, and the like will be fielding some unfamiliar first team sides.

Are the major leagues better off just going on hiatus?

Many of the other major leagues do shut down around the holidays and into January...just after this WC will end. So including pre-WC camps, international players will be away from late-October to December 18. Maximum disruption.

7 of the 8 stadiums are either being upgraded or built from scratch. Besides the timing, there is that nice variable.

I genuinely could not be happier that FIFA is heading face first into a total clown car fiasco that the world will witness.

What a cluster this is going to be, MLS playoffs right during the pre tournament camp! EPL's most hectic time of the year, right on the heels of the tournament. Bundesliga usually off from mid December to mid January. Leagues must be THRILLED.

It looks like they put every schedule they could find into MS Project, found the month with the least availability, then overbooked it.

Classic program management.

Sincerely hope one of them collapses (while empty, of course) a week before the tournament starts.
