The cradle of the game.
I've enjoyed this thread the last few days as much as anyone, but for just one moment allow me to vent:

YOU'RE A FUCKING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER 1 WEEK BEFORE A PLAYOFF GAME

Ok.

Resume clever lighthearted banter.

According to Reiss, whatever Jones' had a bad reaction to wasn't an illegal substance:

New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones had a bad reaction to a substance "that is not illegal" on Sunday, which led to him being admitted to a local hospital, sources tell ESPN.

I haven't heard anyone claim CJ was on Adderall besides Merloni. That would concern me far more than the synthetic weed. Unless it's been prescribed & cleared w/ NFL, a positive test for any amphetamine-based stimulants, like Adderrall, triggers an automatic 4 game suspension for PEDs (unlike substances of abuse, where you need to test positive several times before a suspension).

Unless Roger showed up at CJ's doorstep today with a cup to pee in--and I certainly wouldn't rule that out--it's probably too late to nail him. Adderall disappears pretty quickly.

Also, I vaguely remember that Adderall - despite being an amphetamine closely related to meth/speed - can be taken within NFL rules via a doctor's exemption. So Jones might have obtained an exemption, if it is Adderall.

Based on the emergency med doc a few dozen posts ago that said "my first reaction is Ambien, or maybe synthetic marijuana" - I'm guessing Ambien if it's not an illegal substance.

Edit: and didn't someone here report that a lot of Jones' Snapchat messages are
"It's 1am and I can't sleep"

Let's try this again for you fools. Act to source, CJ told police he took "tons of adderol and weed". I never said OD.

Lou Merloni ‏@LouMerloni 2h2 hours ago
It WAS believed that he came from Gronks house BECAUSE THATS WHAT HE TOLD THE POLICE!!!!!!!

Lou Merloni ‏@LouMerloni 2h2 hours ago
Done with you idiots. Hold me accountable for what I said not anyone else. I never said he OD'd. Good nite fools
Lou's work is increasingly derivative of mid-period John Dennis.

Didn't Merloni talk with the kid from Iowa or Nebraska that was predicting baseball trades? Merloni was calling him legit because the kid told him his source.

Well slamming Adderall or Ritalin would keep you awake too...

But I will happily write a doctors note for CJ if that is needed. 'Do your job.'

Here
Lots of people dislike Ben Affleck, but I can't think of many things funnier than when he took a giant dump on Lou Merloni for 10 minutes straight in the Red Sox announce booth and Remy couldn't help from cracking up over and over.

Wouldn't shock me if NFL sent Jones a notice to submit to a "random" PED test as soon as it got a whiff of this. I could be wrong, but think amphetamines clear your system within a day or two, at least with urine tests. So unless he's already been tested this week, he should be in the clear when it comes to any Adderall he may (or may not) have taken over the weekend.

Based on past suspensions, it's unlikely we'd be made aware of a positive PED test for weeks anyway, well after the season's over - player gets to appeal results, has hearing, NFLPA demands secondary tests/analysis, etc etc before suspension is actually executed/announced.

Stimulants like Adderall, Ritalin, etc. can be taken if prescribed by a doctor AND clearance is obtained from the NFL in advance. There's been several players who claimed to have been prescribed Adderall, yet still had their suspensions upheld because they failed to obtain NFL clearance beforehand.

It's time for every asshole with an opinion out there to cite his sources. If he can't - than fuck this shit. Until then, there's nothing in this thread that I believe, except maybe the guy from SoSH who talked to the Walgreens person...but I'd still like a name.

Things like this go all over the place until people settle down and understand the truth, which most of the time is no one's business.

And fuck Merloni.

Merloni still can't spell Adderall.
Hate to stereotype, but I will. I follow 800 people on Twitter and not one of them is a current or a retired professional athlete. I've learned over the years that most of them rarely have anything noteworthy or insightful to say.

Lou's really making a mockery of his career.

Yeah, that one was a Remy-and-Orsillo top 10 moment for me. Wasn't quite the Great Pizza Caper but it sure beat the hell out of watching Lou Merloni bat. Wish the clip had survived.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Per Reiss:

Will Chandler Jones' usage Saturday be affected by him being admitted to the hospital Sunday for a reported bad reaction to using synthetic marijuana? "We'll find out on Saturday," Bill Belichick says when asked early Thursday morning in his news conference. "I could just Xerox you a copy of the game-plan and you can send it over to Kansas City. That might be easier for all of us."

I would honestly be shocked if Jones was not "randomly tested" in the last couple of days. And if he was, and he fails, he's a moron.

The NFL only tests for weed once a year if you're not in the program, and generally in training camp. There's no provision for additional testing for it until you fail that training camp test.

Except the commissioner can do whatever he wants to "protect the shield". I mean multiple Courts have already validated this belief....

Not when it is collectively bargained for. The rules on testing for rec drugs cannot be more clear.

WRT PEDs -- here, allegedly, Adderol, I am not sure about the testing regime.

Anyone know when they can test for PEDs?

If they can test based on bizarre, aberrant behaviour - Vontaze Burfict should be peeing into a cup

Unless he was taking really high doses for extended periods of time, adderall (amphetamines) usually clear urine tests within 1-4 days. So from Sunday he is basically clear. To say nothing of his probably ample access to masking agents.
Unless he got a cold and decided to take some decongestants.

The only thing I've found is from a Trolin article back when everyone was wondering how Hernandez could smoke so much weed and not get caught.

"Every Monday during the season, as many as 10 players per team are randomly selected for PEDs, and five players from eight teams are selected for blood testing."

Also, "Every player will be randomly tested at least once and as many as six times throughout the year, and must give his contact information for the offseason — a player has 24 hours to produce a specimen away from the team facility. The NFL also now does blood testing for HGH, and a player can have blood drawn as many as six times per year."

So, it looks like he could "randomly" be given a test next Monday, unless he was already tested 6 times this year.

The drug testing policies are here : https://www.nflpa.com/active-players/drug-policies
For PEDs, in addition to the 10 random ones per team per week, including the playoffs, additional testing is available for any player for whom there is credible, verifiable documented information providing a reasonable basis to conclude that a Player may have violated the Policy." (Policy 3.1, at p 6.)
