Want Pliny? Help My Godson get a Kidney

That's my godson Harrison. He needs a kidney. It's expensive as hell: $300k and insurance covers 60%, so his folks are trying to raise $120k.

I've sent Plinys to a few of you on here over the years, and stopped because it's a pain in the ass to get them, but I was thinking that if people donate $100 I'll ship you four Plinys, if people donate $25 I'll put you into a random drawing for four Plinys. Is that a ripoff? I dunno, tell me if that's too much money and not enough Plinys. I'm not trying to make money here, just trying to buy human organs (kidding!).

Just floating the idea. If people are into it, make sure you put your email on the donation so I can contact you, and note in your comment field "SOSHPLINY" so I can know it's you.

And for locals, I can offer a round of golf at the Olympic Club Ocean Course if someone donates $300. Or non locals too I guess.

Update 11/3: This has been incredibly amazing. We're moving this, I'm told, to the main board, to increase its visibility even further, and Orange Julia has gone nuts including Harrison in the SOSH Secret Santa process (which I guess I have to sign up for now, because holy shit that's amazing) and Nip is even getting SOSH officially involved with membership purchases. I have to say that the response to this has been literally 10x or more what I forecast, so good on you, Sosh. Unfortunately, I've been in touch with Russian River, and while I think I can get all the Pliny that's been promised thus far (it might take me literally a year, but I'll make good on it), I am at the point where I can definitely keep the $25 lottery open but can't really do any more four-packs for $100. If any of you who donated $100 or more, I am not reneging: I'll get you your Plinys, it just may take me, like 12 months. I also got this email from the guy I know at Russian River:

"Oh, keep me posted. 8 cases is more than most accounts get over the course of two months... To give you perspective. Perhaps if you spread it out over some time. Also, I can sprinkle in some sours to offset the Pliny numbers. (Sours travel much better anyway, by the time Pliny hits the east coast, it's a shell of its former self...)"

So if any of you are willing to take a couple sours (or any of their other amazing bottled beers, viewable here - http://russianriverbrewing.com/brews/) let me know as it'll likely accelerate you actually receiving the beers I owe you.

No idea what a Pliny is, but I'm in for $100.  If you're publicizing through social media campaigns, I'm sure the old lady would be happy to throw something on instagram for a bunch of people to see.  Let me know if there's like a hashtag or whatever for it.

Any particular reason why they want to stick with OHSU? It's a very fine hospital but pediatric transplantation is a very very specialized field and it's good to go to an institution that does a fair number of them.

Donated.  My bf would love the Pliny, but if you can't send it no worries (I didn't see a "comments" field).  What a little trooper your godson is!

Done.  I didn't put in a comment because everyone else was typing in lovely words of encouragement.  I didn't want to be the weirdo that said SOSHPLINY while everyone else was offering T&P.

I dunno man, I just buy the beer around here.

Seriously, thanks to everyone. Didn't know what the response would be, but this place always amazes me with its generosity. Let's keep it going!

Don't worry about typing that, I told the parents and they're stoked. I mean, I probably wouldn't post "IM ONLY IN IT FOR THE BEER" but SOSHPLINY is kosher.

right here
I also left the comments blank though it took every ounce of control I have to not put IM ONLY IN IT FOR THE BEER

I can send you the receipt or whatever. Or not. Kids shouldn't have to deal with this stuff.

I was that weirdo. Money's money...I'm sure they won't mind.

La Mancha.
I was about to ask if he had a donor, then clicked on the link and see that his mom is donating. Best of luck!

Done and send the Pliny elsewhere.  We'll always have the drinks you bought me, Sage, Mainer and the boys back when history was made.

Done. Apparently my job matches donations, so I'll look into seeing what I can do to get them to match my donation ASAP.

Maybe people should pool their money and give it to Mak. Double the money raised.

Only goes up to 500$ but if we can get a 500$ donation in my name somehow, I'm more than willing to find out to submit it.

We could send money to your PayPal account if you have one.  The doubling sounds like a very sound idea.

Yeah, that seems like the best way to get the money to me. Before we send the money though, I want to look into what I need to do on my end to get them to double the money. I'll shoot the HR department an email when I go to work tmrw, and I should get a response on Monday.

Done. I would do it even if the offer of Pliny the Younger didn't exist.

Harrison will be in my prayers for a swift and speedy recovery.

Don't worry about sending me the Pliny (I'll take a rain check) I'll either be in Oregon sometime next year or a lot wealthier (long story).

If it is somehow easier/cheaper to get one of either supplication/temptation/beatification/consecration, however, I'll take that instead :D

You know, my wife has always thought that my weird internet baseball friends were... weird. Even though she's met Skrub and Syd and Tangled Up and Brohammer etc. But even she was completely fucking floored when one half-assed post on Sosh brought in damn near FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS. Fucking crazy man.

It's been said to death, but this place is really a special, weird, goofy, amazing collective. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd get this kind of response. My heart soars like a hawk, as my mom says.

Done, didn't see where to put comments.  Not an IPA guy but since you are in Oregon if you come across some Hair of the Dog (Adam, Fred, Matt or Doggie Claws) that would be appreciated.

Don't go out of your way though. Happy to help regardless.

I posted this in the beer thread as well since that is where you are going to find a lot of Pilny fans.
Didn't quite get the post formatted as I had hoped so if a mod wants to fix it in the Only Place Where Less Head is Better that would be great.

You guys are amazing. Just message me your email address if you don't see the comment field, I can cross reference the donation list.

And I'm actually in SF but if I find some hair of the dog I'll make it happen.

Also, I reached out to a guy I play baseball with who works at russian river... Hopefully save me a bunch of trips to buy Pliny!

OFT if you can't get Pliny all at once I'd like to donate but would also like to donate my Pliny to our next donation drive. Would you be willing to hang onto it and use it for that, by proxy?
