"Intercostal irritation" sounds like a euphemism for beach erosion.

Seriously, of all the unlikely things that have occurred so far during this season (mostly bad, little good), Wacha anchoring the rotation five turns through is up there. They'll miss him.

Edit: Can't teams work around the 15-day IL for pitchers be worked around by retroactively backdating the stint? Guess it doesn't really matter.

They can only backdate up to three days now, so it's not much of a workaround.

FWIW, the 15-day thing isn't just for pitchers, it's for all players. It's funny because they changed from 15 to 10-day IL a while back to give teams a little more flexibility so they wouldn't have to carry players who weren't hurt enough to miss 2+ weeks. Now they're back to 15 days because teams were allegedly abusing the shorter period by moving players on and off too often.

They also added the 26th roster spot. So the flexibility isn't as much a need.

Unfortunately, Wacha ending up on the DL is about the most likely thing one might expect from him at this point in his career.

What stinks is that Wacha was absolutely DEALING so far this year. I'm pretty convinced that when he comes back, he's going to crash pretty hard. All his mojo is gone now.
