If I'm not mistaken it was on a feet-first slide into third in the second game at Texas?  Hope it's not serious and he can get back into the lineup.
The Red Sox are better, both offensively and defensively with him playing.

"Better" is an understatement.  They are much more fun to watch.

For those curious, in case a DL stint is required, here's how Nava's been doing with the PawSox:

.274/.370/.403/.773 with 17 H, 2 D, 2 HR, 9 BB & 20 K in 73 PA

He's hit safely in 15 of his 18 games.

20K in 73PA, with a sub .800 OPS in AAA (even if pitcher-friendly AAA) doesn't inspire confidence.

I agree. But at least he's been consistent.

Nava hit another homer tonight. 9 of Nava's strikeouts have come against lefties (in just 21 PA). Nava is hitting righties well, as usual.

Farrell said on the postgame that he'll be fitted for a brace and play through it. Given the lack of good options for CF and RF, I guess that's good.

It's not good. It may be better than the other options, but it's not good.

Farrell on tonight's pregame: "It remains to be seen how the brace impacts his base stealing and other activities."

I'm getting Keith Foulke flashbacks. Three-year free agent is instrumental in winning a World Series in his first year, leaving it all on the field in a heroic performance. In the second year, injuries crop up...

You can finish the story yourself.

What, the year after his contract expires the Red Sox win the World Series?

Relax. It was demonstrated last year (I wish I remember who did it) that Vic provided enough WAR on the field last year to be worth his entire contract.

Most of it anyway. His 5.6 WAR last year, at the prevailing $6m per win, was worth $30m or so. His deal is 3/$39. We don't need much more from him to break even.

Which is good, because I fear we won't get much more between his health and his .600ish OPS against RHP.

* Outfielder Shane Victorino went hitless in four trips in Pawtucket Tuesday night, exiting after six innings. Farrell said if Victorino checks out OK following the game, he’ll be joining the Sox in New York this weekend.

I really like Shane Victorino. I think he's a great guy. He's had a great career, he does a lot of community service he's good in the clubhouse and he's been a very productive major league player in his career...

But the idea that he's going to be ready to play this weekend is ridiculous. He's had one hit, five strikeouts and no walks in the minors this season. That single hit came back in April from his first stint. He's 0-13 on his latest rehab assignment. He also has yet to complete a full game:

6/24- Replaced in the field to start the 7th
6/23- Replaced in the field to start the 6th (With Lowell)
6/17- Lifted for a PH in the 4th.
6/16- Lifted for a PH in the 6th
6/14-  Lifted for a PH in the 5th (Played half of a doubleheader)

Honestly, he's obviously not right, what benefit is there from calling him up this weekend when he hasn't performed at all?

Because rehab assignments aren't about performance, they're about health.  If he's feeling alright...no twinges or tweaks...then he's coming back to the big league roster.

Also, he's a 12 year pro that might roll out of bed and start hitting right away (I know, Stephen Drew).  The other thing is that players who had been going great can suddenly lose it (Xander). Vic can't hit any worse. Third, this season is drifting away, so big deal.

I think at this point my main consideration with Victorino is what path is likely to make him the most productive player he can be in 2015. If he's got anything that needs surgery, anything that could linger, would benefit a ton by just doing strengthening exercises for another month or six weeks, then just do that. There's no point in putting him out on the field if he's going to be hurting and putting up a sub-700 OPS against righthanded pitchers.

I was at McCoy last night, and I thought Shane was moving a bit gingerly on his way back to the dugout after grounding out to short in his last AB. Take that with as much salt as you want.

I wouldn't worry about it; Victorino limped coming out of the womb

Or as someone (me, in fact) put it in some thread sometime this season.....for most of his time in Boston, Victorino walks like a guy who was in a car accident yesterday.  Then he goes and chases down a flyball that you thought he had no chance to get....and tumbles his way back to the dugout like a man who cant feel his feet.  He's sort of like Mickey Rivers in that respect.

Jim Brown, the greatest running back that ever lived, always got up after being tackled (if he was) and limped back to the huddle on what looked like 70 year old arthritic legs. Next play, he was off like superman again.

At what point do they just shut him down for the season and try to salvage 2015? I'm not suggesting it's now but expecting much from him this season is starting to look like folly.

Some guy responded to Gordo on twitter and said we should send him to Hawaii and say "see you in February." I'd be okay with that.

Someone from the Tigers or the Cardinals organization has a Victorino voodoo doll and every time he gets close, in goes another pin. Probably the Tigers, because the Cardinals would do Ortiz, wouldn't they? But this is now bordering on the absurd, a 33 year old guy that can't get healthy enough to play baseball, a non-contact sport, in eight months or whatever you want to call it.

Shane is a very competitive dude.  It's gotta be killing him that he can't play.  I know it's killing us that he can't.  This guy has the worst luck with his body.
