I like this, with a "but." I think this crop of referees does have enough built-in bias and ego that personality conflicts come in to play. VAR referees need to be an independent branch. Use the challenge, the third party looks at it, call it done.
I'd be fine with that.

I'd also like to see an NBA-style system in which the referees/league provided a written explanation for the decision in each one of these VAR scenarios as a further way to create more accountability.

Suspension overturned.

Imagine if they could check video in realtime and immediately correct obvious errors instead of waiting a few days.
United appeal and win, color me shocked. I kid, but not totally. More seriously, the tackle was bad enough to be a borderline red--even acknowledging the slip--so getting the roja directa but getting the 3-match suspension overturned seems fairer. I don't think direct reds for game situations (i.e., not RC for dissent, which carry 2-match bans) should automatically result in a 3-game suspension. I strongly dislike Bruno, but I don't think he intentionally or maliciously went high on Madders, but the reality is that he did. There should be some latitude with the suspension rules, although the EPL hasn't shown us great work with discretion (see: handball shenanigans the last 5-10 seasons) to date.

The Athetic chimes in concerning the Bruno red/notred fiasco

Coles notes:

- most VAR decisions come down to subjective views - as such they usually arent any better than the initial call

- as such , the undeniable fact that VAR ruins the fan experience for a huge percentage of fans (you can’t cheer what you just saw) means the marginal gain in accuracy is not worth the cost.
