They don’t create enough. They’re never in the box and the only real pace is Robinson on the overlap. And his crosses seldom connect
Yeah no argument there. Even when they have numbers nobody knows where to go. Everyone runs in a straight line, no overlapping, no runners trailing the play, no touch, etc etc.

"Pulisic trying to do it himself"

weak midfield connection, weak passing to unlock the defense. (tbf, a decent defense that's parking)

“Gregg what was your plan to score tonight?”

Gregg: Turns on 50 slide PowerPoint about corporate synergy.

Yep.

And he's not getting the ball on good passes in good places. Not that much he can really do - it's a team issue
He's lost a step, maybe two. Before all the injuries he'd just glide past people on the wing no matter how crap we were at getting him into good places. Seems to have had a good season in Italy but I don't know that he can do that superhuman stuff for the USMNT any more. Had a little of that burst against Panama but generally speaking I don't think we can just try to get Pulisic on the ball and hope for the best moving forward

California. Duh.
Can't fault the effort tonight even if we can gripe about the execution. This tourney was over after the Panama game.

USSF needs to take a loan against their World Cup windfall, fire Gregg, and go find a new manager.

I didn't think so yesterday, but I think Gregg probably gets fired.
I think so too. Getting knocked out with three points in an easy group is a debacle and the stakes for 2026 are too high. We're stagnating and we need fresh ideas. I do suspect that current USSF leadership will behave differently than the Dan Flynn / Sunil Gulati era.

But he's not wrong with what he's saying right now.
It’s moments like this that make we wonder if the contrarian blowhard is just schtick that he turns off and on or if he just stumbles into the occasional correct observation like the proverbial broken clock.

Nothing more encapsulates this era than that we only scored 3 goals in the group, a group that included Bolivia who gave up 8 goals to the other two sides.

I feel like we just got to watch Dempsey's struggle for his soul. He didn't want to say anything like some reactionary post match blowhard but he eventually gave in and went for it. Made me laugh at least

Would we even have advanced with a one goal win given the final score in Panama? Sad/funny that we weren’t far off from Pepi’s horrendous misses costing us dearly.

Pulisic talked about "finding an identity again" in those post-game comments. Not a good sign coming from a guy who has been one of Berhalter's greatest champions in the locker room.

Yes, we were +1 coming in (2-0 and 1-2) and Panama were -1 coming in (1-3 and 2-1)

yes we would have had a +2 differential (we ended even) and Panama had a +1

this is a bit of a reason for hope

Getting knocked out with three points in an easy group is a debacle...
I'm not sure "easy" is a fair description. They just lost 1 - 0 to the Elo #5 team, they beat the sad sack, and they lost a game where one of their players lost his mind and got himself kicked out of the game 20 minutes in. The group always hinged on their result against Panama, it was the game where they could least afford that kind of stupidity. I'd almost rather have been in a group with a friskier last place team so that everything didn't hinge on getting a result against Panama.
