So basically Berhalter put out a super goofy lineup, subbed his way into one that makes some sense and now we look okay.

I am very late to this post because Mrs Shore and I were half-watching on my phone at a pub, but she said after some fouls on Pulisic: “why don’t the other players defend him? Is he Jamie Tart?”

“Uhhh - sort of” I replied.

If you want to know where our team's confidence is in this lead.....
Wasting 5 minutes with a fake head injury and committing fouls to slow down the game 80 yards from goal.

That'll do it. Ugly game but they saved Berhalter's job and are in decent position going forward

Well deserved goal from Lletget. Whatever Berhalter said at halftime worked.

I want to say it was Lletget, but whoever it was it was the play of the game.
great hustle play. Lletget has been all over since coming on

Yes Lletget. Three hockey assists I think.
Didnt he pass it to robinson directly? Had the 2 secondaries after.

then lletget again! Pepi also showing up. That dallas fc media guy is gonna post the south park scene with the dad at the computer after a large celebration

Could we end up with a situation where the national team starters diverge from the best Americans at club teams?

So, Robinson is the starting left back and Pepi is the starting striker, at least in October. We’ve found that out I think.

The market isn't efficient enough for the best players to always be at the best clubs.

Miles Robinson play for a middling MLS club and he's obviously better than a Champions League center back. But with the way things are going, Miles might be heading elsewhere sooner rather than later.

It’s not impossible if some guys don’t fit the tactics, but I don’t think that’s really what happened here and it’s dangerously cutesy-poo to bench better players because others happened to be on the field when Honduras ran outta gas tonight.

I think this is a very realistic possibility. You probably want to take another look at European based players though who are barely into their season right now but the fringe Euro guys probably are needing to be nervous. McKennie and Adams and Brooks I think remain automatic.

In all honesty I worry most about Lletget. I’ve been a fan of his in the USMNT for a while because he’s one of the few players we have who are comfortable on the ball who can slow things down and pick his head up. He’s not a fantastic player especially after all the injuries but we are so weak in this style of playerright now that we at least need him to hold out through qualifying

Strong agreement here, “best Americans at club teams” does not always equal “Americans at best club teams”. Sargent in the EPL and Pepi in MLS has less to do with their precise talent levels and more to do with where they signed their first contract.

It's starting to feel like last cycle. If history repeats we will get a 3-0 or 3-1 fairly convincing win and things will stabilize for a little bit and everyone will take a deep breath, only to see the team put itself back in harm's way next time.
I didn’t have screw up the first half on the bingo card!

Funny, the whole thing played out so that we are happy about 5 points but fuck it just figure shit out and beat Jamaica.

I was so resigned to failure in the first half with that terrible formation and squad choice balance. He made good subs at half and team played so much more in rhythm.

Hope Pulisic is ok :(

I'm fine with him resting until the first week in October.

It's kind of amazing how the whole identity of the USMNT has flipped. They used to be the team that overperformed their talent through cohesion, organization hard work and physical traits, now they're the team that underperforms their talent while teams that are tough and organized give them fits
This is it, right here

My youngest son woke up before the equalizer and I fell asleep with him. So I guess I found what was jinxing this team…

What a swing, too bad it happened well past my bedtime. Maybe I'll try and watch the second half tonight because those are fireworks worth of the 4th.

Also saw this and thought it was interesting. Not so much because of the specific player, but rather whether there's enough of these type of situations that could change the game for the USMNT:

Yes, Honduran goalscorer Brayan Moya immigrated to US illegally (mother lost a leg on La Bestia), played indoor soccer here, there, everywhere (incl Chicago Mustangs), with Dynamo U-23s, but couldn't sign bc he was illegal. Finally got tired of waiting and turned pro in Honduras.
