Good product so far. Love hearing the coaches in real time. The total was a ridiculously low 38.5 on FD. 14 points were scored in the first four minutes.

Unfortunately whatshisface keeps talking over the coaches. What's the point of micing up the coaches if your announcers are going to talk over them?

I agree, I think Fox is trying to do a bit too much with the audio. I can see the potential though -- hearing the coaches react to the other teams' alignment pre snap is pretty cool.

I actually think Klatt is doing a good job though, especially when it comes to treating the players like former college stars (when applicable) rather than just no-name pros.

Yeah Klatt did a noble job filling us all in on who was playing and their backgrounds. He was very well-prepared.

Impressions:

A good game that came down to the final seconds.
The biggest or most glaring difference between the NFL and the USFL (besides lack of size) seemed to be QB arm strength. Receivers got a step or two beyond the defensive backfield with regularity and the QBs couldn't reach them. Several under thrown balls.
When NJ had an 11-play drive in the 3d quarter and there were no announcers and we got to hear coach-to-QB communication only, it was AMAZING. I totally get why NFL coaches/teams would never allow this but it's too bad. It was a great fan experience being able to eavesdrop on it.
My 10-year old who loves sports but still struggles to sit still watching sports on tv was riveted tonight and I think it was all the new tech (tho the XFL two years ago was doing the same).

I fear what will ultimately doom this version of the USFL is that all the games are in one stadium.

FYI. Fox Bet was the first to market on 4/8 and each total opened in the 50’s. Tonight’s game was 55.5 and still 43.5 as recent as yesterday morning.

It seems like the sharp money came in early, the books over adjusted bc they have no idea what the league will look like and trust the sharp money, then the steam chasers continued pounding it. If this same chasing pattern continues I’ll be all over the Overs tomorrow as this leagues rules favor the offense much more than other minor league football leagues of the past.

Well, we're seeing the effects of playing in one location. Weather delayed the start of the first game by almost an hour. There are about 17 fans in attendance.

For clarification, they are not playing in one stadium. Yes, they are playing in one city, but the games are being spread across Protective Stadium and Legion Field - two different sites.

Of course, weather for one is weather for the other, but riboflav's characterization is wrong.

You're correct. My bad.

apparently the sensors to help with measurements in each end of the ball are the size of golf balls, which is why the place kicking has been so miserable (normally the easiest position to fill in these leagues). I wonder if it’s also impacting the quarterbacks throwing deep.
