Unlocking a Virgin Mobile phone

A Lost Time
I recently bought an iphone se off Ebay. After I did so, I discovered that it was locked with Virgin Mobile. No biggie I said it to myself, I will have it unlocked.

Unfortunately to my amazement, after I visited a few cell phone shops, the best that could be done is a temporary unlock; should I factory reset the phone or there's a network update, the phone will get locked back with Virgin Mobile.

The other way is for me to become a Virgin Mobile subscriber for one year at the price of $35 a month which is completely unreasonable for my needs. After that, they will unlock the phone for me. I even called them and offer them to pay them a lump sum to get my phone unlocked and they wouldn't do it.

I am SOL and I don't expect anyone to have any better options, so I am posting this just in the one in a million chance there is one.

Other than that, yes, I will try reselling the phone and getting a new one .

Sorry, I can't offer any help in unlocking the phone, but if the seller claimed the phone was unlocked you might have some recourse with eBay if the seller refuses to refund your money.

If you are looking for a cheap plan for a smartphone, I suggest you look into Tracfone.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
A quick perusal of SlickDeals leads me to believe the only way to permanently unlock a VM phone is after 6-12 months of paid service.

(and if anyone knows a way to save a buck and unlock a phone cheaply, it's the posters over at SlickDeals)

FWIW, I'm on TotalWireless, and it's the same situation. No way, no how to unlock a TW phone, short of 12 months of paid service first.

Nah, the seller has been excellent; he offered to take it back, but I foolishly thought I could unlock it. I currently have Tmobile and I am pretty satisfied with paying $3 a month.
