EMU gave Kentucky a pretty good game too. Not surprised to see that UMass struggled in the first half. A win is a win.

Looking forward to Saturday vs. BYU.

After watching that game and seeing how they played against Kentucky, I think that EMU team is actually pretty good. They should give it a run in the Mac

Heading to the game tomorrow.

This is the first game I have been to since I saw Ajmal Basit drop a double/double against URI at the civic center.

Long time coming.

Umass is back!

This is a really entertaining team to watch. When did Sampson Carter and Raphael Putney learn to shoot so well?

This team plays good defense, runs the floor well, and passes fluidly. They are fun to watch, even with the new emphasis on ticky-tack foul calls slowing the game.

This team is good. Watching them live they are very fast. They can play with anyone offensively.
Defensively is where I worry about them.

That being said.

Couldn't really ask for a better start to the season. It was great to go to a game and see some of that passion back.

On NBCSN today at 3. I repeat, today's basketball competition between UMass and Northern Illinois (3-4) will be nationally televised.

Hoping they dominate start to finish and get a chance to use more of the bench.

I took a look at the RPI rankings and UMass is #1.  I'm assuming small sample size is coming into play here, but still, pretty impressive.

You got your wish. They absolutely took N. Illinois to the woodshed.

Good win today, nice to see some different players get into the game. Clyde Santee looked really good scoring 13 points in about 5 and 1/2 minutes. Now the real test comes up next week. Wednesday night @Ohio which is no slouch at 7-2 and then the quick turnaround traveling to Sunrise to play Florida St on Saturday. Would really be awesome if UMass could come away with 2 wins there, but 1-1 wouldn't be so bad.

Looking good so far. Trey Davis has an ugly-looking shot but it's going in so far tonight. Esho looks great as well. Love the all-around scoring, Ohio doesn't have an answer for pretty much anything UMass can throw at them.

This is a good team.  Saturday's game may be the toughest of the season.  They do need to show they can win a tight game.

I'm glad you posted this.  I was looking at the schedule and scores late last night and had thought similarly.  I'm very impressed by the overall quality of the wins....a very balanced team and beating schools across a good mix of power conferences.  If I recall correctly, in no games were they really even threatened (except for a little stretch in the Boston College game, the last 10 minutes against LSU, and the very end of the Nebraska and Clemson games).  These may not be top-ranked teams, but they are solid basketball teams in good conferences.  I don't feel as if they escaped any of the ten wins so far...and that is a good feeling.  Although they haven't really had a back-and-forth close contest, they did stave off a few of these comeback attempts.  The next few games will be really telling, but I am really getting excited about this team.

And it is nice to see the Mullins Center start to draw again.  I'm in NJ now, but saw the BYU game on television and can see that the energy is starting to return surrounding this team.  I went online to look up tickets at upcoming games and saw that at least one only had single seats available, with the exception of a row or two at the top.  It should be a fun season for the students on campus.

So goddamn sloppy. Zero shots in two possessions to end the half coming out of a timeout, although one possession was stolen by typical awful NCAA officiating. Need to be a lot smarter.

Umass has been called for 7 travels this game. Non of them as obvious as the 2 FSU had that possession that went uncalled. Also. This game has been ugly.

Too many dumb shots, dumb turnovers and missed bunnies. Officials were a disaster as well. Rough loss, FSU isnt great but UMass was shit today.

These refs have been fucking terrible. This whole game. That last call was such a joke. Don't think I have seen a call quite like that before.

Disappointing loss. Despite the sloppy play and bad game by Chaz UMass still had a good chance to win the game. Some bad decisions at the end, but refs really should have given Lalanne and and 1 at the end instead of waving off the basket. Joke. Probably drop out of the top 25 after this.

Down one and throwing yet another failed lob is all you need to know about this game. They always play on the edge between uptempo and out of control. Today they tilted toward the latter and it cost them the win and probably another week in the rankings. Deserved or not, the voters are probably far more eager to punish an A10 team for one loss.

I guess I was a bit hasty as UMass remains in both polls, #23 AP and #22 Coaches.

Just an absolutely pathetic performance closing this game out. 10 point lead with under 4 left and you don't score the rest of the way and let them tie it to send it to OT

What are those hideous looking jerseys UMass is wearing?

I actually like them. Better than the NBA version.

Phew.

Well, it's a win, and it's nice to see the Mullins Center hopping.  Doesn't look like it was a very pretty game though (I just got home and switched it on at the start of OT).

Is Providence decent this year?  Their record appears to be inflated by a 7-0 record against teams ranked 200+ in the RPI.

PC would have been a tournament team if they had their full team this season.  As it is, they are a team with limited playmakers, but they have a coach who is a great motivator, so they should be competitive almost every game.

Does Kellogg know how to coach end of game situations ? Good lord. These refs, again, have been a disaster. Fuck this!
He lets the guys play, which is fine in theory, but not when things are going to shit and Chaz is out of the game. Need to do something to calm things down. Did better in OT at least.

Went to the game, great to see the Mullins Center sold out. Definitely agree that a timeout needed to be called on that last possession in OT especially. Trey Davis looked completely lost out there, and Kellogg barking at him from the coach's box didn't help matters. Fortunately Gordon was able to put in the rebound and it worked out, so I won't complain about the result.

This touch foul nonsense is making this a terrible, terrible product to watch.

edit: Also, UMass is playing like shit again. Carter has been terrible and Lalanne has been sadly invisible.

Down 57-48 with 6:23 remaining.  Finished the game on an 18-5 run for the W.
