I expected CM to win...but wow.

NFC what's next if it's not a rematch with Aldo (because he sure as shit ain't picking Khabib as his next opponent, and it'll be really hard justify going anywhere else but there at 155 atm).

Hes already talking about stepping away for a bit unless UFC gives him a stake in the company. This guy is the show right now and he knows it.

Fight wise id love to see Khabib but idk if its a mega fight draw.

Hes not going to 170 to fight Woodley. Nick Diaz makes some sense to me.

I kind of expected that. Not to that extreme, but I didn't think Alvarez could stand with McGregor. The first thing that pushed me towards that is while they're both listed as 5'9", when they stood face to face, CM looked to be an inch or two taller. That, plus the reach and quickness disadvantage was going to make it tough for Alvarez. Even if Alvarez could push McGregor against the cage a few times, it wasn't going to be the Pettis fight again.

What's next for CM is interesting. There's Aldo, Khabib, and Ferguson, but also the Diaz brothers, GSP, and Woodley. I think Khabib could end up fucking him grizzly bear style.

I think they'll feed Conor some good stylistic matchups at 155 and hope Wonder Boy gets the belt at 170 relatively soon. Then they could have Conor fight him for a third belt, in an all out standup battle that he stands a chance of winning. That'd be my dream scenario if I were Dana White, that fight would make insane numbers.

I see Ferguson being in the same camp as Khabib atm, in that Connor simply isn't picking him as an opponent. The lightweight title picture essentially just went on vacation, and their immediate future is stuck fighting each other.

I could see Connor taking the risk on a post-prime GSP before Woodley. The money and supporting hype behind that fight would be crazy too.

It won't be that soon. Even if they decide on an immediate rematch, both fighters should be medically suspended for a bit. CM can fight right now.

CM-GSP is my dark horse because everyone wins big. It's probably the biggest fight ever, everyone gets paid including GSP who's getting pushed around right now, and there doesn't have to be a belt on the line.

I don't know shit about the fight game, but I'm just amazed at how well CM seems to use every bit of his reach advantage in a fight. I'm sure lots of guys do, but damn, it impresses me.

Connor is playing out a calculated game atm and the overall risk vs reward there just isn't worth it for him. Label it what you want but I think there is little doubt at this point that CM has taken full control on picking who/when/where he fights. He's not willingly walking into one of the worst match ups for him on the current table, which I believe both those guys represent.

Like you said a fight vs GSP is the biggest ever, plays perfectly into his "making history" sell, and is easily the most "acceptable" (GOAT in a weight class above him factor and all) potential loss on the table. If you are going to take a risk, do you really not push that fight in favor of taking the risk you immediately drop the belt you just won?

He fights GSP before either of those guys. No question imo.

Man Paz is such a shit human.
Hey, could you elaborate on this? I grew up in south Jersey and remember watching one of the Haugen fights with my dad who did a little boxing himself. Maybe it was because Pazienza was a Philly guy like my dad, but I remember him being a fan.

I don't have an opinion on the guy. Just curious about him.

Just very racist. Hugely Anti Semitic. Said some horrible things to Dana and his crew leading up to their fight that I heard first hand and even I blanched a bit.

Can we not abbreviate Conor McGregor as CM? I was confused as to why people were talking about CM Punk and a title shot.

No wonder my dad liked him. Paz sounds like a man of the people around those parts.
For sure. He was definitely a folk hero, and still is. Guy was tough as shit, and actually a pretty fun, outgoing guy, so long as you were, you know, white or a minority who didn't mind slurs in your drink.

That was a great card..

-Sad to see Tate go, but it is time. I think she is pretty great behind the desk and will make good money there for quite a while .

- Joanna Violence is fucking awesome. She was legitimately rocked and pulled through. I am really impressed by how she has improved her clinch game, even a stronger opponent like Kowalkavich could not control her or take her down when she got her hands on JJ.

-Maybe Rockhold was right and Weidman can only beat " old washed up Brazilians." Interesting to see where he goes from here. I imagine the loser of the Rockhold / Jacare fight gets Weidman next, and it is really hard for me to see Weidman beating either of those guys.

-Not happy with the draw for Wonderboy / Woodley. Judges 2&3 scoring the fourth round as a 10-9 is a fucking travesty. Any round where the fighter is knocked down, out on his feet and then controlled in a submission attempt for over a minute while offering no damage the other way is a 10-8. Crosby calling round 1 a 10-8, but not round 4 is even harder to explain.

-I hate to admit it, but ever since the 4th round of the second Diaz fight, I am a McGregor fan. Talent, balls and toughness are a hard combination to dislike. Like JJ, the way he has gotten stronger and improved his take down defense is really impressive. We are a long way from Chad Mendes taking him down at will. It certainly seems like 155 is the best weight for him. I am not a big fan of the insane weight cutting, I hope he just lets the 145 belt go now that he has proven his point.

Those judge's cards piss me off, and not just because I had money on the fight. That's a really bad look for the UFC, never mind how much Rogan was openly pimping Wonderboy in calling the fight. Trowbridge is usually a solid boxing judge. Sucks to see him not give a 10-8.

I had the same scores as Cleary. I think it's defensible too. The judges can't hear Rogan(afaik) so not sure that matters.

I'm not saying they were influenced by Rogan. I'm saying that it seems a little conspiracy-ish when the same fighter getting talked about by the announcers is getting favorable scores from the judges. Favorable in my mind, at least. Never mind the whole snafu with actually getting the scores read.

I thought it was a 10-8 round, but seeing Wonderboy finish in top position for the last minute of the round, I can see how the judges could have been swayed back to a 10-9. I don't think it was a horrible decision. Fights like this one make me wonder what's going to happen in the new year as the unified rules are changed as I think round 4 is a definite 10-8 across the board and I could have seen round 3 being scored a 10-10 in the new year.

IDK, I just went back and re-watched that 4th round (sober this time) and it kinda reminds me a lot of people initially screaming Diaz should of got that 10-8 vs Connor.

Woodley literally did nothing the first 1:30 of that round before having that nice barrage that lasted under a minute. Then he basically held him in a headlock...err guillotine choke for the next 1:40, which regardless of Joe's attempt to seriously hype up the "OMG LOOK AT WONDERBOY HOLD ON" angle, never actually looked to seriously threaten an end to the fight. The last 1 minute of the round had Woodley on his back with Thompson arguably scoring back from the top.

It's more debatable then some are giving it credit for imo.

I think MMA is the type of sport where if someone is dominating a full 5 minute round the other guy is dead or knocked out. It's not fair to say that it's not a 10-8 round because nothing happened the first minute and a half. He beat the shit out of him, and if it had been stopped after the initial barrage, nobody would've thought that was early. It was 10-8 plain as day.

It can work both ways there though. Woodley really only "beat the shit out of him" for 52 seconds of that 5 minute round, and while you can certainly say a stoppage would have been justified (I agree) that is not what actually happened.

Clear to me would of been maintaining an offensive top position instead of spending 1:40 on a choke it was fairly clear he wasn't going to finish much much earlier then that, then leaving the judge with the image of looking gassed Woodley on his back and getting punched in the face to end the round.

That's fair, the last imagine going into scoring certainly favored Wonderboy, but beating the shit out of someone for 52 seconds to that extent is a 10-8 round in my mind when there's nothing really going back the other way. Despite Rogan's crowing, none of those final punches landed on Woodley before the bell. They were all blocked or straight missed.

I am curious what the technical fault with the guillotine was that Mike M is mentioning? Woodely was only "on bottom" because he pulled Wonderboy into his closed guard to secure the choke. It looked tight to me and I was stunned that WB didnt tap, much like how Rogan called it. That choke is painful as hell and Thompson deserves credit for surviving, but I feel like the sport undervalues quality submission attempts that don't quite finish the job and that was certainly a good one.

I think Woodley made a big mistake going for that choke (assuming he hadn't punched himself out). Arm in guillotines are tough to hit. The guys that normally get them, you can tell they know what they're doing. The younger Miller brother from Jersey was really good at that choke. Wonderboy looked like he had his left carotid free so he was ok since this is a blood choke that's all you need to survive. Woodley was arching like he had a regular guillotine(iirc) and that doesn't really work. With the arm in you need to almost have your chin on the guys traps at the base of his neck. I'll find a video

This vids ok, couldn't find a great one

Yeah, this (I couldn't find a better video either). If you go back and watch the fight there are a few different 1 second angles where you can see he doesn't have it. Although the ability to pause and turning off the sound to not let Pro-Wonderboy Rogan influence what people are seeing obviously makes picking them out much easier.

My initial impression and after watching the tape was that Woodley punched himself out. The choke attempt cost him a striking finish that was otherwise right there for the taking, and ultimately left him creating his own argument on why that wouldn't end up being scored a 10-8 round.

Apparently Bisping has accepted a spring fight against Romero. He's going to get murdered. But of course I thought that about Rockhold too. Still, extra-murdered.

Bisping road to victory is that he's one of the best conditioned fighters in the world and Romero has a reputation of losing steam. If he can avoid the big KO, he'll test his stamina by getting him in to the 4th round (He's never had to go past 3). The build up to the fight will be great as Bisping will go into heavy detail on Romero's lack of integrity.

I can see that, sure. Still going to be really hard for him to do. I thought Weidman was going to do something similar, but it didn't work out. Romero seemed pretty comfortable pacing himself before exploding his knee on Weidman's head. I think Bisping is going to have a really tough time pressuring Romero. The buildup should be fun though. Bisping is a delightful asshole. I hope he can pull it off.

Amazing how Dana (Joe Silva's gone, right?) found the one guy that could get me to root for Bisping.

VT lays out the Brit's path to victory above. Get the big man in deep water and then put him away.

Bellator is kind of *cough* interesting huh? In a way it reminds me of Pride, but not in the best way.

In the UFC I hadn't realized how thin 205 is. Last night I saw little Nog was ranked 9th. There are only 6 serious contenders.

Last night's Chandler/Henderson main event was pretty solid. I read good things about Gilbert's girl so i tuned in to check her out too.

The MVP fight sucked. I watched the rest in standard FFx2 mode on the DVR.

I'll definitely watch Fedor vs Mitrione. Although I'm surprised Bellator made that call instead of feeding Fedor a complete cupcake.

UFC 206 is pretty screwed. Cormier is injured and pulled out. Earlier this week, Evans couldn't get a license from Ontario commission, so he's out too. His opponent Tim Kennedy was subsequently pulled from the card. They could have had GSP but . . .

Unless they find a replacement or cancel the event, the main event is Holloway-Pettis

DC out again. Neat-o.
So basically it is now tied 2-2 between him and Jones, right?

From a strictly nothing makes sense in the title pictures anymore anyway pov, I'm guessing a good showing vs Holloway by Pettis could get him Connor next. Potentially entertaining stand up fight I can see Connor signing off on.

Bjorn Rebney says it's not a union or a promotion. They said it's an athletes association to file grievances on behalf of fighters. GSP, Valazquez, Cowbiy, Dillashaw we on board talked to the media today.

Also, rumors coming out that WME-IMG want $450m/yr for the new TV deal and might want whoever they sign with to do presentation instead of doing it in-house with Rogan/Goldberg.

Will this sport ever be big enough to go away from the PPV model?

Doubtful. There simply isn't enough constant "game time" activity in regards to the most marketable people that could help carry a different format.

Although on a side note and as far as every week presentations go, this season's reality show was one of the better ones they've ever had imo. Even after Mighty Mouse runs through the winner.

Weird finish to Masvidal-Ellenberger, Ellenberger's foot got caught in the fence and he took a few punches when he tried to get it loose. Herb Dean stopped it and checked to see if it counted as a ring malfunction but it doesn't so TKO punches win for Masvidal.

I had 29-27 Cejudo, so did 1 other judge. Other 2 judges saw a totally different fight.
