Like, if you scored the fight as a single unit, I can MAYBE see giving the win to Jones because he finished stronger. But of course, that's not how MMA scoring works.

The UFC has a serious issue in judging takedowns. If getting a guy's butt on the mat for 0.8 seconds before he pops back up again influences your scoring, we're not even judging a fight anymore, just awarding points for the display of a skill.

Yeah I was pretty much in the 48-47 Reyes camp. You could maybe convince me 48-47 Jones. 49 - 46?!?! Yikes.

It doesn't matter how much they counted those take downs! They only came in the last two rounds. The fight was over at that point, barring a Jones finish. Well, it should have been....

Man, when they said 4-1, I thought it was going to Reyes for half a second. Reyes was never in a moment’s danger and had Jones hurt or running multiple times. Crazy judging.

Need more rounds for less decisions. 7 for champs, 5 for regular fights
I like Rogan's "why don't we have 7 or 10 judges" suggestion.

10 judges, aggregate score, rather than rounds won, and I think you would cut down on the crazy variance.

The boxing ten point system doesn't make any more sense for real fighting than the wrestling point system would. I can see how adding scoring guidelines like they have in other combat sports that would help quite a bit. A back take should be worth more than laying and praying in someone's guard. A legit submission attempt, set up and executed properly, should be worthy just as much as a slip knockdown or big punch that lands.

Latifi must be pissed the same judges didn’t give his takedowns any credit.

Theres no reason to not have more judges, but more rounds would make the rounds worth a lesser percentage of the fight too. In boxing a round is 8% of the fight, here it was 20%

Also judges LOVE octagon control. They're sticky down under for it
That's fucking stupid. If it's an even fight, sure take that into consideration. But if Reyes outstrikes Jones by a large margin and clearly does more damage, then to me, Reyes controlled the octagon that round, even if he was backing up.

I mean, just because a dude is moving laterally while another is coming forward doesn’t mean the former isn’t in control. That’s how Ali an Holmes both fought. Reyes was totally in control the first 3 rounds, even if he was moving around.

This just sucks. I love this sport so much but I don’t want it to become like boxing where every big fight will have a dark cloud over the event because someone might be crooked.
