Mike ... The article says he's 3 years from vesting in the NFL coaches pension program. That probably matters for a guy who's 65.

Ah ok, I missed that. Then yeah that would be a huge incentive, and no doubt more than make up any loss in earning. Seems like isn't going to happen anyway

how can Uconn possibly hire a legit assistant coach when 1) they have no conference; and 2) the head coach has one year left before he is fired. So Weist ahs to be either the coach in waiting, or he sucks. Sicne Cincy fans generally liked the guy, I'd say he has a wink-wink deal or Tuberville was going to wax him and Weist needed a job.

Yes, it is impossible for me to say anything non-snarky about UConn football at this point.

buy hey, the school has ZERO OOC games scheduled in 2014 and one (at Tennessee) in 2015. Good job, good effort! Meanwhile, the in-conferences schedule in 2014 is a joke, too.

At least they get Michigan in East hartford this year...45-3!

Congrats to UConn on getting a big time QB recruit in Timmy Boyle.

Absolutely moronic move by the idiot in charge at BC to run him off

No link but UConn just announced a home and away with BYU. First game of the season in '14 at the Rent and following year on 10/31 in Provo.

That's a great home schedule.

Who do they have out of conference in 2014?  Because that conference home schedule for 2014 sets up to be pretty lame:  Cincy, UCF, SMU, Temple?

Edit:  So far, looks like they have BYU and Stony Brook coming in 2014.

They open at home against BYU. And it's not like they have any real options. Nobody is going to beating there doors down to play them in CT.

Add Boise State to the 2014 home schedule. Return game in Boise 2018.

In next 4 years, UConn has home games vs. Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, BYU, Virginia & Boise State

This is his last year. The question is does he actually MAKE it to the end of the year.

Might as well just pick up the kid from Towson who just beat us and almost beat LSU last year. He was a UConn assistant a few years ago. It's not like we're getting some big name to come in.

And fitting that the thread still has 2012 in it. UConn football is stuck in the past with no hope for the future, at least for now.

We should rename it 2010 UConn football. That would at least bring back good memories.

I took my 8 year old to game tonight. I hope child protective services doesn't find out.

The "AA" in the new conference name seems appropriate for this team.

The tailgating sucked a bit because the ushers were pretty aggressive about getting you into the game. This will get worse, because no one will want to ever go into the game.

The food costs are ludicrous - beer costs same as at Fenway. Priced like MSG or a pro team. Shouldn't be the case with a team like this.

It likely wasn't ever more than half full tonight. I left end of third to get kid home.

The Michigan game will have more of their fans in stands. Guaranty it.

Coach Blue will need to be fired ASAP to give any hope.

Michigan east? Looking forward to it. I guess I'll have to have my beers outside the stadium. I actually have a three game pack, so I'll be headed to a three of your games this year. Maryland, Michigan, and Louisville. I don't think the latter two will be close at all.

I've already noticed that ticket prices have fallen on StubHub for what it's worth. I don't follow you guys that closely, so I don't really know your depth chart, who graduated, who burnt out, and what not. UConn was, at worst, decent last year. What's changed so much?

Lots of Michigan fans in the area, so I expected a big turnout by them. What may happen now is that UConn fans fed up with the coaching may sell, too.

I don't know. The only positive thing about UConn football this year is Michigan is coming to town. I'd say it's 65-70% UConn fans but who the hell knows. Especially if the Maryland game doesn't go well.

We had 5 guys get drafted, 4 of them on defense. We also won at Louisville last year a month before they pounded Florida.

And now you'll ask how the hell we only won five games. Good question.

There is a reasonable chance I never set foot inside rentschler field this year. I'll go to the MD game tailgate. I'm selling my six Michigan tickets. After that?

This team is going to go 0-12 or maybe 1-11. Of there are 10k people at the Memphis game in December I'd be shocked. I hope edsall beats them 45-0. I'm sure Warde is monitoring the situation.

Uconn hoops plays Maryland same night football hosts Louisville. Gonna show the hoops game on the new video screen. How awesome would it be if everyone left after the hoops game?

If UConn had hoped for the ACC or some other conference to come calling, this is not a good way to go about it.  Who would want this turd of a program?

OCST, that's my concern, too.   I think you need to clear house at the coaching level to show they are serious about trying to get into a big conference.

Or, just throw in the towel, rejoin the Big East for hoops (if they'll have us), and move on.    But that would be admitting failure.

I don't want D1 football at UConn to fail, but it's becoming apparent that a) the athletic dept. and/or administration are inept on this issue, or b) they don't truly care about the success of the team.   With all the money they've spent on facilities, and the good path the team was on up until the last couple of  years, that'd be shame to waste it.   The Rent IMO is a fine facility, with ability to expand.  The football games are fun and convenient to attend from a tailgate experience (or at least were - we'll see what security does in the future).   You can avoid the high food and beer prices if you wish, so that's a non issue if the rest of the experience is good.

With a week off, this would be the time to fire Coach Blue, but if they were gonna do it, it should have been last January.

Well lets be clear the program was a pretty damn good one, when you consider what they accomplished in less than 10 years.

Then Edsall left, Pasquolini was hired by a stooge AD who has since been replaced by a guy who played football for Michigan.

I think the jury is still out on Warde Manuel, but his future at UConn will reside with who he selects as the next coach of the team. The next coach will be the one who either finishes the program off or gives it new life.

Spot on. It might be a good idea to fire Pasqualoni this week and let the DC fight for the HC job this year. At least to figure out if anything's worth saving on the coaching staff. Because the way last year went he certainly should have been fired at the end of the season.

It doesn't matter at this point if they hire Nick Saban away from Alabama, UConn Athletics is screwed.  The time to make the right coaching hire was in 2011, coming off a Fiesta Bowl and with some conference options still alive.

The only good option now is to kill the football program and join the Big East.  The administration will eventually accept that, it's just a matter of how painful things have to get first.

What exactly have they changed with security? I haven't been to the Rent since I graduated 2 years ago, but I don't recall ever seeing much security walking around the tailgate area.

Yes, the time to make the right coaching hire was after the Fiesta Bowl. No, that doesn't mean it's time to throw away the football team and the >10 year investment that CT has made into it. As we've seen with coach blue, one coach and a couple of years can make a world of difference.

Manuel hired the new offensive coordiantor, TJ Weist. if PP gets fired in season (and how can u let him coach against edsall and lose 35-0 at home?), then Weist will be the interim coach, not hank hughes the D coordinator. his defnese was a joke last night. funny, but Uconn's old coordinator, Greg ambrose, coached towson last night.

I can't believe PP is still the coach

That investment is a sunk cost now.  There is no way out of this situation at this point.

It's definitely a sunk cost. It's definitely not a death knell for the program to have 2 straight 5-7 seasons under some terrible coach. Not even 3 or 4 straight. It's certainly a bad bad time for this to be happening, but it's not a death knell. You know how you get out of the situation? You get a new coach who can recruit better.

As a UMass alum, we would kill to have a facility like the Rent on campus in Amherst.  Clean house with the coaching staff and go from there.

Yeah, and then what?  There is no revenue stream to be realized for UConn Football.  In the most optimistic scenario, they fire Pasqualoni this year and have a good football team in 2015.  And they're in an even worse conference (East Carolina and Tulane replace Louisville and Rutgers by then), and the BCS schools have made their move without UConn.

Well at least you can still root for BC
